WINNO'S WINNERS: EAGLE FARM, OCTOBER 15
By Darren Winningham | Thursday, October 13, 2016
We are back at Eagle Farm this week. The rail is back to nearly the true position being located 0.5m out for the entire course and we are on a good track this weekend.
Well what a week last week – the program dominated by Tony Gollan and Robbie Fradd! Gollan surprises us all with a winning treble after struggling on a Saturday for many weeks to find a winner. Then the South African jockey, Robbie Fradd comes out and rides four winners. I have been saying for weeks that Most Important is an absolute head case and if he ever puts his mind on the job he could be a Group horse. Last weekend he ran an amazing time of 1.08.27 over the 1200m at Doomben – that is just 0.5 seconds or so outside of the long standing champion’s Takeover Target course record. If Fradd had ridden him out he may have broken the record – maybe? We will know never now.
NB *As this form assessment was made prior to race-day, please check final fields and track conditions for any changes on the day.
Race 1
A two year old race to start the day. Looks like a tough race on paper. On exposed form Dream Kisses (8) and Tiara Star (10) were sent out equal favourites last start at Doomben – both runs were full of merit. I think that Tiara Star may have derived more benefit out the run so I am putting her on top.
A special mention to Northern Rivers trainer Ethan Ensby who brings Landsdowne Lass (9) to the races for the first time – the horse has had some poor barrier trial form in Sydney but since moving to the Ensby stables at Casino the filly has settled in well.
There has been some good money in early markets for the Tony Gollan trained Galtero (2) a nice looking Snitzel colt – after last weekend’s performance. Maybe Gollan can post another early win on the program. Keep your eye on Wirraway (6) the wily Kelso Wood trained colt. Wood always seems to find a nice two year old each year in his stable – the colt is drawn well and will be ridden by Brad Pengelly.
Selections: 10-3-8-6.

Race 2
Just Keep Giving (9) was recently beaten in the race won by Emerald City (1) by 0.3 lengths. The mare looked like she was motoring home in the last 200metres but just ran out of time to make up the distance. I think stepping up to 2400m she will be hard to beat this weekend and Jim Byrne retains the ride.
Emerald City (1) also looks a big chance after his last start win. He goes up sharply in the weights here and this could bring him unstuck. In the back of my mind I think he does perform best on a dry track so he should get that this weekend. Mr One Eleven (2) was tardy out of the barriers last weekend and really took no part in the race – tailed off and beaten by 72.1 lengths. Look for an improved performance this week.
Selections: 9-1-2-7.

Race 3
Lady Jetsetter (6) has caught my eye here and does race well fresh – the only issue is that this is her first start on the Eagle Farm track. She normally likes to lead and has drawn handy in barrier 4. My Little Flicka (7) ran a great race first up at Eagle Farm behind Privlaka – regular rider Ryan Wiggins takes the ride. He has a distinguished record on the mare (5 wins on her) – she also has a great second up record with two wins and a third from three starts.
Top Tone (3) had a great win last start from an impossible barrier – I have to put the gelding in for a place. Another Whiskey (4) was well supported last start and sent out favourite and just didn’t fire. He has drawn wide this week in barrier 15 – Tiffani Brooker may need a GPS from out there to get the gelding home – however, they have been coming wide and winning at Eagle Farm the past few meetings.
Other interesting runners include Desert Man (13) trained and owned by Kelly Schweida. The gelding resumes here this week and did race against some nice type’s last campaign – look for any moves in the markets with this one!
Selections: 6-7-3-4 rough chances 8 and 13.

Race 4
One Inch Punch (2) won well over this course and distance last start and seems to have a liking for the new Eagle Farm track with three starts for two wins and a narrow defeat. Mr Jetset (11) has been working nicely through the grades and has the same winning record as One Inch Punch at the track. I think that the race is between these two this week.
Mr Jetset is to be ridden by Jimmy Orman who is rumoured to have purchased a home in the Nudgee area to base himself in the Brisbane area in coming months – maybe the win here will help pay for the deposit on his new residence! Punta Norte (3) is the other chance here – narrowly defeated last start by One Inch Punch and does has a slight weight advantage this week. Desert General is stepping back up in distance this week and on his last performance should be suited here.
Selections: 11-2-3-5 rough chance 6.

Race 5
This is the first leg of the Quaddie. Rhyming (7) has a gear change this week with blinkers on and winkers off for the first time. She does have a bad habit of missing the start sometimes – if she jumps with them this week I think she is the best bet on the program at the nice odds of around $5.
Another Slipper (5) had no luck last week missing the start and then being caught wide – despite this she ran home late and ran a credible fourth. Tony Gollan is backing the gelding up again this week and Tegan Harrison takes the ride – look for an improved performance. Balboa Rocks (2) was a massive run last start at Doomben narrowly being beaten. Despite coming back in distance here he looks a nice type but may be just coming to the end of his preparation this time.
Kubis (3) and Spring Tycoon (1) are recent winners at the Sunshine Coast track on a Sunday – both showed they have some talent and should make the transition to Saturday grade this weekend. Spring Tycoon (1) did race over the BRC Winter Carnival and put in some solid efforts.
Selections: 7-5-2-1 rough chance 3.

Race 6
A few interesting runners resuming here – Frespanol (1) transferred from Gai Waterhouse stables to the Tony Gollan stable. Then Black Jet (5) resumes from a lengthy spell for the Liam Birchley team. Keep your eye on the markets here for any moves for them.
Londehero (4) scored well the other week at Eagle Farm – the race was set up nicely for him with some fast early sectionals allowing him to power home over the top of them late. Sony Legend (6) was in the same race and seemed to just not have a good crack at them in the straight – I think with the weight advantage this week he should be very competitive.
Sporting Page (7) is an eight year old down on a city mission from Cairns and is trained by Olivia Cairns. Last start at Doomben he was patiently ridden by Justin Stanley and got a miraculous run to bury the opposition over 1050m – at the big odds of $16. He has performed well over the 1200m up north – but can he continue on with his winning way in the city this weekend?
I am sure there will be people saying what about Saluter (2) – I just cannot catch him. He has a nice claim this week – maybe he will knock me out and win – but I just can’t tip him.
Selections: 4-6-1-7.

Race 7
Really! Another one of these Class 3 races! Just when I think I am on a roll and may be able to get the Quaddie they do this again!
I do not think many punters would have missed the run of Passion in Flight (16) last start at Eagle Farm behind Bidii Babe. I just have noted it has a poor second up record with not a placing in four starts. This has swayed me to the consistent Unassuming (12) who is racing in career best form. Apprentice Josh Oliver won on the mare last start and retains the ride and his three kilogram allowance should come in handy here.
Sagamama (4) was good at the recent Public Holiday meeting and deserves a change in luck. Darren Bell has been unlucky not to get the chocolates in the gelding’s last two starts – narrowly beaten on both occasions. Sunny Fame (7) is an interesting runner from the Matthew Dunn yards – he has been working nicely through the grades at the Gold Coast and comes to Saturday city class for the first time to face the acid test. I think ,on reviewing his recent runs, he may just shape up here.
Selections: 12-4-7-16 rough chance 9.

Race 8
Just when you think it cannot get any worse – a No Metro Win Handicap to finish off the day.
I like the form of Sharpe Hussler (6) here and he drops sharply back in grade – he again hasn’t fared all that well at the barrier draw win barrier 14 but with any luck should be thereabouts at the finish. Starocity (10) was narrowly beaten last start by Mr Jetset (engaged in race 4) – if Mr Jetset wins I may just have to reverse my selections here!
Star of Night (11) is a nice type who returned from a spell with a dominant win at the Gold Coast two weeks ago. Last preparation the mare raced in some better company and just was not up to that grade. This week back in grade – second up – nicely drawn and has in form jockey Jim Byrne on board she may be a chance here at the nice odds of $7. Revaldor (17) has drawn the airport again this week in barrier 17 – but does love Eagle Farm and should get a run with early scratchings.
Selections: 10-11-6-7 rough chance 17.

Jockey Challenge
This week the South African jockey domination of Brisbane racing continues – looks like Jeff Lloyd could ride a treble on this program and take the bickies this week.
