MY CALL: SHEER SPEED IS HIS TICKET TO STARDOM

Some critics have suggested Winning Rupert needs to get involved in some rough and tumble to prove his star in the making process.
A bit of a bashup before a victory would at least prove he is not a one-trick pony, they say.
What rubbish!
Winning Rupert's ticket to stardom is his sheer speed. He is simply faster than his rivals over 1200m from start to finish, his astounding times and healthy margins clearly underlining this analysis.
Again, let's draw a comparison to Black Caviar. Her unbeaten winning recipe consisted of a high cruising speed at both ends of the race.
She was too quick to encounter traffic or trouble.
Yes, life has been kind to Winning Rupert in this present winning sequence with good barriers, firm tracks and not brilliant opposition.
The Magic Millions Guineas in a fortnight will be an important yardstick for him opposing a capacity field at an increased distance.
Alleys mean little to him. He is too fleet of foot to be in any traffic jams.

Market assessors reacted far too quickly to From Within's debut Canterbury win on the weekend.
The win displayed talent and she was eased down but was that performance dominating enough to go straight to the top of the Magic Millions pile?
Not in my mind.
How Ours To Keep is not the nominal MM favourite amazes me.
His CV is bulletproof.
And I'll bet if he was trained by "C.Waller" he would be a few points shorter.

It was great to see track records established on the weekend under the right conditions.
A bone dry track with top class racing saw horses like Winning Rupert, Cylinder Beach and Hidden Pearl become worthy track record holders.
Benchmarks are now being set and will be hard to better.

Did Sassy Tycoon break the 800m Kilcoy track record in her Cannonball win on December 3?
My hand time says she did but hand timing can be up to 0.5 seconds quicker than an electronic time.
So, in my book, no she didn't, but the fact the electronic timer didn't work for the race is poor PR for the club and Racing Queensland who promised a $10,000 bonus if the record was bettered.
Surely a good result for all parties would be to go half way and pay $5000 to the connections ?

Sometimes there isn't much difference between Christmas mail arriving and my news gathering speed!
Last week I wrote Kevin Dixon was being considered for a position on the Toowoomba Turf Club
Of course the former RQ chairman had already been appointed. I was a fortnight late.
Congratulations, anyway. His contributions will be a huge asset for the club.

Finally, a New Year's Wish (and the chance of a free gift)
I am more than happy to deliver a bottle of Moet champagne to the first twitter tipster/spruiker who does not slap THEMSELVES on the back within minutes of selecting a winner.
Fair enough for having a go and fair enough for fellow twitterers to high five but constant self praise is another thing
The bottle is chilled and ready for delivery.
