WINNO'S KILCOY KASH: KILCOY, JANUARY 26
By Darren Winningham | Thursday, January 26, 2017
This is the Kilcoy Turf Club's annual Australia Day meeting – where people come dressed in their best Australian outfits! There are always some unique sights to see!
Unfortunately it is a NON TAB meeting so you will have to come to the track to enjoy the racing and entertainment.
The meeting kicks off at 1.15pm with 5 races scheduled. In addition the kids and the mini trots will make an appearance between the first three races – so a spectacle for everyone!
By the way – my theory for this track is if they can lead – or they have won here before then they usually do well!
I will be on the lookout for some 60 seconds with Winno candidates – punters – trainers – and other jockeys – so if you are brave enough to go toe to toe come up and say hi!
NB: As this form assessment was made prior to race-day, please check final fields and track conditions for any changes on the day.
Race 1
Big Green Pony (4) – I have been here for all three wins at Kilcoy! The horse is 3 from 3 here and has an affinity with this track. This week Pietro Romeo takes the ride and he looks hard to beat. The horse down in grade, but carrying a large weight is Life’s Like That (1) – trained by Greg Cornish at Beaudesert and to be ridden by up and coming apprentice Nick Keal. The gelding has had a few runs here and ran a couple of placings – has drawn barrier 1 so may just bounce out and lead here. Chipewyan (5), trained by Rochelle Smith at Toowoomba, has Bradley Appo aboard. Last start at Toowoomba, despite being hampered at the start, it still won!
Selections: 4-1-5.

Race 2
Nathan Fazackerley has his second ever race ride as an apprentice aboard Whatever Miss (1) – so we wish him well! The mare has been racing well over the short sprint distances of 800m - has drawn okay and with his 4 kilogram claim is right in this! Clout (3) is trained by Andrew Donnelly in Chinchilla and has run two previous seconds on the track. Jed Hodge rides the gelding this week and has drawn a nicely in gate 2 – he normally races handy in his races and should be ridden to perfection by Jed – could be the battle of the apprentices here in the final 100 metres! Dr Quincy (5) is another that races on the speed as well – unfortunately the Patrick Sexton trained gelding has drawn barrier 12 and Hannah English may need some luck from out there over the 800 metres of this race!
Selections: 3-1-4-9

Race 3
Bel Classico (1) is trained by Stuart Kendrick and was bashed up in the run last start at the Sunshine Coast – I would suggest you forget that run and go on the win at the prior start at the Sunshine Coast when she won her maiden with Ryan Wiggins aboard. I think that with twenty days off since her last run she looks well placed here.
Prospecting (3) has been racing consistently at Ipswich in his last three starts – only has won a single start in 34 runs but maybe down in grade here this week can improve. Aarhus (2) looks like it has had a stable change from Tas Morton at Port Macquarie to Steven Clifton at Clifton – the gelding has its first start here for the new stable this week and has had a pattern of leading in his last three starts. This week he will be ridden by Billie-Rose Derbyshire and she does know the Kilcoy track well and has a good record here – maybe if he has settled in well he may be ready to win! So we will just tip in race book order this race 1-2-3!
Selections:1-2 -3

Race 4
This is a tough race – too open for me! So I am going to tip the one that has drawn the rail – Lucky’s Lil Girl (9) to be ridden by the recently engaged Amelia Denby! So maybe she can ride a winner and do 60 seconds with Winno after the race! Chic Sox (5) may improve here, a three year old gelding having his fourth race start for trainer Wayne Stephens from Deagon.
Selections: 9-5-10

Race 5
I have got this race down to two chances! One is Perforation (2) trained at the Sunshine Coast by Mick Mair and to be ridden by Tasha Chambers. The gelding has drawn barrier 1, races on the speed and looks well placed here. Maybe time to unload so I can grab another Kilcoy Race Club famous steak burger before heading for home! These are the best steak burgers around – just melt in your mouth!
Nick Keal has a nice ride as well here being engaged to ride Ralph the Dragon (3). The gelding has had a month between runs and normally races handy in his races. This may be the best quinella for the day! Scarlet Jane (5) from the Ben Robinson stables at Beaudesert looks the likely one to fill the trifecta. Time to cash up and head home!
Selections: 2-3-5

No exotic betting on this meeting!
No jockey challenge either – so we will be backing winners and stripping the bookies of their cash on track!
Good luck and good punting – and Happy Australia Day!
See you all at the track!
