EF SEPT 12 - FASLIYEV DANCER GOES ONE BETTER
By Matthew Grimson and Graham Potter | Monday, September 14, 2009
Eagle Farm, September 12, 2009. NMW Handicap (Fillies & Mares) - 1400m. Time: 1-23.37. Track - Good 3. Rail - out 3m. 1 Fasliyev Dancer; 2 Lucky Toss; 3 Peaceful Belle.
After two second place finishes in her previous two starts, the Trevor Bailey trained Fasliyev Dancer went one better when she scored an end to end victory at Eagle Farm.
Pressured early by Perri Lou, who raced hard on her outside, and Peaceful Belle, out wider, Fasliyev Dancer tolerated that inconvenience until the field straightened for home at which time apprentice jockey Luke Rolls decided to give Fasliyev Dancer more rein and she extended to clear right away from her field with ease.
That move clinched the race for Fasliyev Dancer although Lucky Toss, coming from well out of his ground very wide out on the track, did fly home late to keep the race interesting, but she was still 0.50 lengths adrift at the line. Apart from the winner, Lucky Toss’s late charge easily qualified as the run of the race.
WINNER FEEDBACK: Apprentice jockey Luke Rolls: “Today she got the easy lead. She didn’t have to work to get there. She kicked away and won the race early in the straight. She didn’t have much left in the tank the last 50m but had enough to get her over the line. I don’t think she will go much further than 1400. That’s probably her distance.
“No there wasn’t really that much improvement from her last start. The first start back (when finishing second after a four month layoff) she was probably a little bit fat. She should have won last start, but she just drew wide. She had to work too hard early which cost her the race. Today was much better. She draws an alley, she wins!”
PRICE FLUCTUATIONS: Winner (Fasliyev Dancer): 3.50 out to 3.80. The winner was the favourite.
STEWARDS REPORT EXTRACT: Beautiful (C. Reith) jumped inwards at the start and brushed Swiss Alps (M. Hellyer). Peaceful Belle (L. Cassidy) jumped away awkwardly and brushed Calm Before (C. McIver). Peaceful Belle was caught three wide on the first turn and was obliged to race three wide for the entire race. Calm Before also raced three wide for the entire race.
Brilliant Con hung out in the middle stages and compounded and finished some distance from the bulk of the field. Trainer P. Facoory's representative was advised to inform the trainer not to nominate the horse in the metropolitan area until satisfied it will perform up to the required standard.
L. Cassidy reported that near the 300m Peaceful Belle appeared to blunder and he felt there may have been something amiss and he eased up on the horse from the 200m to the finish. A post race veterinary examination of Peaceful Belle failed to reveal any significant abnormalities at the time of examination.
