EF SEPT 12 - BRINGELLY BOUNCES BACK

By Matthew Grimson and Graham Potter | Monday, September 14, 2009

Eagle Farm, September 12, 2009.
NMW Handicap (C, G & E) - 1400m. Time: 1-22.77.
Track - Good 3. Rail - out 3m.
1 Bringelly; 2 Mystic Vibe; 3 Bernardo.

The John Morrisey trained Bringelly bounced back to form after a lack-lustre effort last time, producing a finely timed finishing effort to claim the honours with something in hand.

The six-year-old raced well back in the field early and only marginally improved his position by the time the field had straightened for home. With eight horses in front of him and committed to an inside run, Bringelly did need a touch of luck to get home and that is just what he got as the gaps appeared at all the right times to allow Bringelly almost a straight charge to the line.

There was just a marginal inward movement as he started his run and another slight adjustment outwards as he surged to the lead. In the end he scored in confident fashion.

WINNER FEEDBACK:
Scott Morrisey (spokesman for the John Morrisey stable): “He won well. He’s been sort of knocking on the door. He was probably a bit disappointing last start that’s why we put the blinkers on him. But no, he’s back to his old self, that was a good effort.

“Last start he got back, but he just didn’t finish off. We’ve had the blinkers on him before in the past and he over-raced. Since he sort of wouldn’t go forward the other day we thought well now this is probably the time to try the blinkers ... he might settle with them and finish off and that’s what he’s done. I thought he’d go good - I thought they’d both go well (referring to stable-mate Bradfield) but no, he went good.

“He does a lot of swimming. He is a pleasure to train. He swims a lot and just works. He doesn’t do a lot of hard work ... doesn’t go a lot of galloping or a lot of pace work. He just does a lot of swimming.”

Scott Seamer: “He’s a horse that can find trouble. It is the second time I’ve ridden him today and, you know, everything went his way. He didn’t have a lot left at the end, but he got the runs when I needed them and that’s what counts at the end. I just wanted to ride him where he was comfortable and hopefully get the splits - and we did.”

PRICE FLUCTUATIONS:
Winner (Bringelly): 8.00 out to 8.50.
Favourite (Shudule Gee): 3.00 out to 3.20 in to 2.70.

STEWARDS REPORT EXTRACT:
Bradfield (C. Reith) and Haverford (C. McIver) were tightened for room on jumping away between Ken And Kim (J. Taylor), which shifted out, and Red Ferments (M. Hughes), which shifted in.

When questioned regarding the seemingly disappointing performance of Shudule Gee, S Katsidis stated that after being crossed by Demonstrator near the 1200m, the gelding then commenced to pull fiercely. He added that near the 800m Shudule Gee over-raced at the heels of Demonstrator, and as a result of over-racing, he felt this had an effect on the gelding not finishing the race off today.

S. Katsidis further stated that on straightening his mount was under pressure and when tiring in the straight, it was inclined to lay in. He indicated that at no stage did Shudule Gee seem relaxed and he felt that this had had an effect on its performance. Trainer's representative Mr T. Duckett could offer no explanation other than the fact that the horse had over-raced, and he informed stewards that trainer Mr J. Wallace would notify stewards of anything that comes to light in the days following the race which may have had a bearing on the performance today.

Ken And Kim was obliged to race wide throughout.
