MY CALL: PRINCIPLED STANCE BY IPSWICH TURF CLUB
By David Fowler | Tuesday, July 4, 2017
David Fowler is the principal thoroughbred caller for Radio TAB. David, who is a keen form student and punter, has enjoyed a lifetime involvement in the racing media. His personal blog, ‘My Call’, appears exclusively on HRO.
Controversial ex-Ipswich mayor Paul Pisasale remains on the city’s Turf Club committee.
Their principled stance is in stark contrast to the state ALP who recently terminated his membership.
Pisasale is currently on bail awaiting trial on extortion charges.
The well-accepted assumption of innocence until proven guilty has not been lost on the ITC.

Speaking of Ipswich, they are eagerly looking forward to their allocated Saturday date on September 23.
The club snared the date due to Eagle Farm’s temporary shutdown.
Already party bookings are being fielded which is an encouraging sign.
It wouldn’t surprise me if Ipswich did not secure one or two more Saturday dates after their infrastructure improvements are implemented.
Let’s face it, it’s around a 35 minute drive from the CBD with minimal traffic issues.
That compares to the 45 minutes or so it takes from Sydney’s centre to Warwick Farm.

My nominations for various Winter Carnival categories were aired on my PRESS ROOM program on Monday.
Do you agree or disagree?
STAR OF THE CARNIVAL:
Doomben track (and staff); Excelled, as usual, under an extraordinary workload without a hint of bias.
FLOP OF THE CARNIVAL:
Eagle Farm track. No malice intended but it was too big a story to ignore
TRAINING PERFORMANCE OF THE CARNIVAL:
Ben Currie. Batted well above his weight from start to finish at the toughest time of the year.
JOCKEY OF THE CARNIVAL:
Jim Byrne. Showed renewed zest with Redzel (Doomben 10,000) and Chocante (Brisbane Cup) the highlights. . RISING STAR OF THE CARNIVAL:
Oaks winner Egg Tart is a no brainer but an honourable mention to the unlucky In Her Time.

There seems to be chatter that Godoplhin could establish a satellite stable in south-east Queensland.
This follows hot on the heels of Chris Waller finalising his satellite plans on the Gold Coast.
And the news that Matt Rudolph has been appointed as BRC’s general manager of racing is another positive sign
And with modest prizemoney increases and infrastructure projects being rolled out, we are in a far better position than 12 months ago.

GUESS WHO DON'T SUE
A high profile Racing Queensland administrator has left the building. Pushed or jumped is the burning question.
