WINNO'S WINNERS: SUNSHINE COAST, JULY 15

By Darren Winningham | Friday, July 14, 2017

Last week WINNO was on fire with some winners.

The great form continued over the Grafton Carnival tipping the feature race winners and his Late Mail exclusive from the track where each runner won or finished within the top 3!

It has been a busy 10 days – lots of hours on the roads – but I must say that the Grafton Carnival just goes from strength to strength each year.

Congratulations to the Clarence River Jockey Club (CRJC) Committee – Mr Graeme Green, the Chairman and the Chief Executive Officer, Mr Michael Beattie and their sponsors for a wonderful Carnival!

In other racing news – jockey Jim Byrne celebrated his birthday on Friday (did I read right that he cracked the magical 50???). Sorry Jim, he is only 46 – Happy Birthday mate!

I just would like to highlight the wonderful Winter Carnival that Jim Byrne has had – with all the NSW invading jockeys he has held his head high and flown the flag high for the Queensland jockeys.

Then on Wednesday this week he ventured down to Grafton and took out the time honoured Ramornie Handicap riding the Peter and Paul Snowden trained Calanda, in a race and track record time of 1.07.56.

I am tipping a huge Spring Carnival for this one – the run and time was amazing!

Credit also to jockey Jason Taylor, who is based on the Gold Coast as well. He gets very limited chances but he has been in sensational form over the first four days at Grafton, riding five winners to lead the jockey of the Carnival going into the final day this weekend on Sunday – the Maclean Cup. He may be one to keep following on the final day!

Okay – I will say it ... Queensland won State of Origin.

That’s it for now!

My mail is the Laurie Daley will step down from the NSW Coach on Monday. Whilst I have mixed feeling about the NSW series – we had the Series there to be won in Game 2 in NSW and we didn’t “sit down and ride hard” as Steve Hawkins would say! We went to sleep an gave Queensland a sniff – and that is all they needed!

This weekend I am a little jaded so the selections for the Sunshine Coast will be short and sweet.

The track at the Sunshine Coast is rated “SOFT” and the rail in its true position for the entire track.

NB: As this form assessment was made prior to final scratchings, please check final fields and track conditions for any changes on the day.

**************************************************************************************************

Race 1

Tumbler (2) resumes off an impressive barrier trial win – hard to beat.

Selections: 2-1-7-4

**************************************************************************************************

Race 2

Open race – Muddy Rope (10) looks well placed by Chris Anderson.

Selections: 10-11-12-16 rough chance 1

*************************************************************************************************

Race 3

Bushy (9) has been in great form - back to his home track – hard to beat.

Banda Spice (7) is locally trained and ran well in the Glasshouse recently – good form for this race.

Selections: 9-7-10-3 rough chance 8

***************************************************************************************************

Race 4

Bring It Home Pop (1) won here last start and is in great form – looks a great chance.

Red Hot Miss (13) maybe worth an each way ticket on the big open track here this weekend.

Selections: 1-2-3-13 rough chance 7

***************************************************************************************************

Race 5

Steamin (3) saluted here last start – looks well placed again and has Jim Byrne in the saddle!

Selections: 3-2-12-8

***************************************************************************************************

Race 6

Our Story (14) for Billy and Dale Healey has a great first up record – looks well placed here on the minimum – nice odds as well around $8.

Oradonna (13) was a good run here last start – Robbie Fradd retains the ride.

Stella Ombra (4) had no luck at the recent Rockhampton Carnival – may be wise to overlook that run!

Selections: 14-13-4-7 rough chances 5 and 11

****************************************************************************************************

Race 7 – Queensland Cup 2017

The big and most important question here – is which of these runners will run out the 3200 metres.

No confidence here – it is a lottery!.

A race to watch and keep your money safely in your pocket!

Selections: 5-8-2-4

***************************************************************************************************

Race 8

Look for a good run first up from the Lindsay Hatch trained Jadentom (14) – the stable is in great from and comes off a win at the Grafton Carnival with Mr Chow – who gave apprentice Nick Keal – his first look at the Grafton track for a great win. Matthew McGillivray is riding in career best form at the moment – he rides here – this one is around $10.

I think you can overlook the run of the Kris Lees trained Gingersnap (4) at the Gold Coast – didn’t appreciate the 900metres and the tight turning Gold Coast track – back on a big open surface - $20 good value for mine!

Selections: 14-4-10-5 rough chance 7

***************************************************************************************************

Race 9

Open race – many chances about $5 in the field here.

Natural Black (11) was scratched from Grafton on Thursday – to be saved for this – I thought it was a good thing at Grafton so I will take the $16 here and back it each way.

Richard Laming has nice type here second up – Reset Me I’m Wild (15) drawn barrier 1 and has been well supported from $7 to $4.60 – they tell me this one has some ability.

Selections: 11-15-10-9 rough chances 3 & 4

***************************************************************************************************

Early Quaddie (Races 2 to 5 NSW TAB only)

10,11,12 / 3,7,9 / 1,2,3,13 / 2,3,12 - cost is $108 for $1

Quadrella (races 6 to 9)

4,7,13,14 / 2,5,8 / 4,5,10,14 / 9,10,11,15 - cost is $192 to $1

Small Quaddie (races 6 to 9)

13,14 / 5,8 / 4,10,14 / 10,11,15 - cost is $36 to $1

Treble (races 6 to 8)

2,5,8 / 4,5,10,14 / 9,10,11,15 - cost is $48 to $1

Jockey Challenge

This week the field is fairly open but I think Jim Byrne will be hard to beat – but have something on Tegan Harrison – she may be great odds here!

Good luck and good punting!
