WINNO'S WINNERS - DOOMBEN, JANUARY 20
By Darren Winningham | Friday, January 19, 2018
Well Magic Millions is done and dusted for another year!
What a wonderful day of racing – featuring the win of the Greg Hickman trained Pierata – I am thinking that this one could be a genuine Stradbroke contender in 2018 over our Winter Carnival.
Then the win of the Tony McEvoy filly Sunlight – is she gets a firm track come Golden Slipper Day – she could be right in the race.
There were plenty of other great performances – Robbie Fradd with a double on Magic Millions Day! The win of the Matthew Dunn trained Care To Think – maybe another 2018 Stradbroke chance.
This weekend we are back at Doomben – the track is rated “GOOD” and the rail will be out 4.5 metres the entire course. The weather is forecast to be hot, with a chance of afternoon showers.
The fields are tough – so this weekend I will provide a brief preview.
These are my selections.
NB: As this form assessment was made prior to raceday, please check final fields and track conditions for any changes on the day.
***************************************************************************************************
Race 1
A two-year-old race – open field with many chances.
Selections: 6-7-3-5
**************************************************************************************************
Race 2
Open race – Benfica Princess looks well in at the weights.
Selections: 8-3-2-5
**************************************************************************************************
Race 3
Not a race I can get too interested in – sorry!
Selections: 13-14-8-3
***************************************************************************************************
Race 4
Cruze looks a progressive type and maybe will get the cash here.
Selections: 3-4-8-2
***************************************************************************************************
Race 5
Invincible Heart has been racing as she is looking for the 1050 metres.
Stella Ombre always produces third up – stays under notice.
Selections: 9-1-5-8
**************************************************************************************************
Race 6
The Heathcote trained Don’t Deny Us was second up and won well. Not as impressive form third up.
Matthew Dunn trained Pegapus was caught wide last start so overlook that run.
Selections: 11-10-1-7
****************************************************************************************************
Race 7
I am a big fan of the Chris Waller trained Kirini.
The Chris Munce trained Expertea could be a rough chance – was unsuited by the Gold Coast track last start.
Selections: 2-1-13-5
**************************************************************************************************** Race 8
Publishing Power from the Ben Currie stables looks well placed with the claim for Michael Murphy.
Watch out for an improved performance by Oink!
Selections: 11-4-10-1
***************************************************************************************************
Race 9.
Let’s go for Sharparmal trained by Helen Page and the Gold Coast and to be ridden by Michael “Muppy” Hellyer.
I have put in Happy Hooves from the Tony Gollan stables. I see that apprentice Lani Fancourt takes the ride this weekend – she is coming back from injury and it would be great to see her ride a winner her first Saturday back in the saddle! Good luck Lani!
Selections: 8-6-10-3 rough chances 13
