IPSW SEPT 17 - TIGHTROPE MAKES WINNING COMEBACK
By Graham Potter | Sunday, September 20, 2009
Ipswich, September 17, 2009. Track - Good. Rail - out 7.5m. Class 1 Handicap (C, G & E) - 1100m. Time: 1-04.27. 1 Tightrope; 2 Purettan; 3 Your Mate Jimmy.
WINNER FEEDBACK: Trainer John Fitzgerald: “That’s his first run for me. I’ve only had him for three months. He hasn’t raced for twelve months. He had a hock problem. They gave him plenty of time. They scraped the bone and the hock. He had an infection in the hock. But he is a good horse, this horse. He’ll go right through his classes.”
Jockey Larry Cassidy: “Yeah he did have to work a bit at the line. He is a nice sort of horse and I think he will take good improvement out of that. He is very colty. He played up a bit around the gates and hopefully that run might just take the edge off him.”
STEWARDS REPORT EXTRACT: Brave Attempt (A. Spinks) blundered at the start. Tightrope (L. Cassidy) jumped away awkwardly and shifted out, hampering Lucky Omens (P. Hammersley). Purettan (L. Rolls) began very awkwardly and made contact with the inside barrier partition. Soon after the start, Cheval Argent (J. Byrne) had to be checked when tightened for room between Prince Of Freeze (J. Wood) and Splendid Hayil (M. Hellyer), which was taken out slightly by Donny’s Magic (J. Taylor). A short distance later, Purettan was taken out off its course by Brave Attempt and had to be steadied to avoid the heels of Bennike (M. Cahill).
Approaching the 800m, Your Mate Jimmy (P. Wolfgram) had to be steadied to avoid the heels of Splendid Hayil (M. Hellyer), which shifted in when not fully clear. M. Hellyer, rider of Splendid Hayil, was advised to exercise more care when shifting ground in future. Nearing the 400m, Brave Attempt (A. Spinks), which was racing ungenerously, shifted in away from Donny’s Magic (J. Taylor) and made heavy contact with the running rail. Shortly after entering the straight, Brave Attempt then shifted out and had to be steadied off the heels of Donny’s Magic (J. Taylor). Your Mate Jimmy (P. Wolfgram) raced wide throughout. Splendid Hayil lost its near-hind plate during the running of the race.
