WINNO'S KILCOY KASH: KILCOY, APRIL 21

KILCOY KASH - SATURDAY 21 APRIL 2018 ANNUAL DIGGERS CUP / ANZAC DAY CELEBRATION
Well we are back at KILCOY Race Club for their Annual Diggers Cup Day. This is a wonderful day where an ANZAC ceremony is held on course to honour the courage and sacrifice made by the Australian Armed Forces both past and present. This is one of my favourite meetings on the calendar each year – the respect shown by patrons is truly emotional.
The Club has a great day out planned with seven thoroughbred races scheduled.
Then the popular pacing on the course proper – with three races scheduled – PACING ON THE TURF!
Not to forget the families and the children, there will be three mini trot races with the kids and their ponies going around.
What a great program!
The track is rated “GOOD” and the rail will be in the true position the meeting. There is forecast of rain for Saturday – but late on Friday the track had only received 1.5 mls of rain for the week. Let’s hope the rain stays away!
WINNO will be trackside for this meeting – I hope to see you there!
NB: As this form assessment was made prior to race-day, please check final fields and track conditions for any changes on the day.

Race 1
A monster field of two-year old’s facing the starter here in the first race. Seventeen nominations in total – this will be a tough race to analyse as some are facing the starter for the first time.
Flirty McCoy (5) is my selection – drawn barrier 1, trained by Les Ross and to be ridden by Adam Spinks who has just returned from a 3-month riding stint in NSW. Maybe he can jag a winner on his first day out! This filly won a trial recently at Doomben and looked a nice type.
Love You Lucy (6) has had a race start at Dalby and ran a credible second. She has drawn nicely in barrier 4 and has the veteran Rob Goltz aboard.
I see that the Will & Peter Hulbert team have a nice type nominated to run as well – Wanna Blue (12). Anything with the word “Blue” in it will get my attention! Maybe Will has decided to get behind the mighty NSW BLUES in 2018?
This filly has had a few trials to get ready for this first up assignment. The last trial at Eagle Farm was a good performance with Ryan Wiggins in the saddle. She finished off the trial nicely and I think she could have won the trial. She has drawn extremely well in barrier 2 and Ruby Ride takes the ride here.
Finally, the Ben Currie stable is represented with Top Luck who debuted and was well supported at Beaudesert where it could not real in the winner over the final 100 metres. This runner has drawn terrible in barrier 16 – otherwise I think I may have had it on top in this race.
Selections: 5-12-6-10 rough chance 1

Race 2
The Searle Family Race – a great supporter of the Club!
Whilst Con Searle is lying in hospital WINNO will be raiding his stand betting on my selections and taking all his money from his bookmaker’s bag! Get well Con!
Wow – I am just doing the form and I notice I get to catch up with one of the characters of racing at the track this weekend – in fact I do not think I have seen him in over 12 months. The last time I saw him was when he was walking out my front door with a hole in his jeans and with WINNO holding all of his cash after a poker game! I speak of the one and only Beau Dene Appo!
Now I have given him some praise I had better put his mount Ambitious Ex (1) on top here. This Ben Currie trained gelding was well supported last start at the Sunshine Coast over 1200 metres. I really think that he did not appreciate the distance and coming back to 1060 metres here with Appo likely to lead on him he should be difficult to run down. Blinkers go on for this start as well that may assist!
Halfback Baz (3) may be a nice price here first up. My mail is that this Jason Edwards stallion has been working well and should present nicely in the yard and be hard to beat in his debut run at a track. Blinkers on this runner too!
Uppembak (6) from the Mick Lakey stables debuted on a heavy track and didn’t fire. Forget that run as he didn’t handle the track. Justin Stanley is aboard here and despite drawing barrier 11 I think we could see an improved performance.
Selections: 1-3-6-7

Race 3
The Ian McCauley OAM race – another long-standing supporter of the Kilcoy Race Club.
This is one of those 800 metres sprints at Kilcoy – over in a flash! They normally need to draw nicely or be able to burn them off and lead to win these races.
Tough race to find the winner as well.
I like Honour Promise (8) who has drawn the rails with Stephanie Lacy aboard. The Paul Jenkins trained mare is second up here. She has won at Kilcoy before and has an impressive record second up.
Poetic Dragon (2) loves the short distance sprints and will be competitive in the race.
Last Round (4) is trained by Bradley Hudson and will be ridden by apprentice Nick Keal. The gelding has won here before. He normally performs better over 1000 metres. The shorter distance may see him flashing home late.
Selections: 8-4-2-1

Race 4
Another 800-metre sprint.
Odelia (7) from the Barry Lockwood stable resumes from a spell here with Ric McMahon to ride. She ran a nice trial a fortnight ago at Eagle Farm with Ric in the saddle. I think in that trial she could have gone a little harder and possibly won the trial. She has drawn wide in barrier 10, however, she should still be hard to beat.
Margot (3), another Ben Currie runner, resumes as well and has had a recent trial. The trial was not that impressive. However, she likes to race on the speed and, drawn in barrier 1, I expect her to lead this field and be difficult to run down.
Selections: 7-3-1-10

Race 5
Bonsea (2) won here on Australia Day when Skye Bogenhuber rode the Brian Costello trained gelding. Will lightning strike twice? I think so – he is good odds as well at around the $8 mark.
Cruz De Vega (9) won on debut in maiden company at Beaudesert. She is only a three-year-old filly but is trained by Michael Costa on the Gold Coast and should be respected. A big jump in class from maiden company to Class 3, but this is not an overly tough assignment.
Ben Currie and Beau Appo combine again here with Magic Kitty (7) who was very disappointing last start at Beaudesert. I think you can overlook that run as she was caught wide and was eased out of the race by the jockey who thought that she went amiss. Another factor is that she does not like wet tracks – all her winning form has come on a good surface. She should get that here this weekend.
Selections: 2-9-7-3

Race 6
The feature race of the program – the Butler McDermott Lawyers Kilcoy Digger Cup for 2018. It must be noted the wonderful continued support that Butler McDermott provides to this country track. They are there every meeting sponsoring a race or assisting in some fashion!
The race is over 1900 metres – down around past the winning post and then a complete lap.
I think the top three in the race here are the likely contenders to win. I am tipping the Lauren Herne trained Splendid Stryker (3) who has won here over the distance and track. I was here the day this gelding won. He will handle a slow track but if it is worse than that forget his chances – however, he does go good on top of the ground. Grace Willoughby is riding the gelding and WINNO thinks he is a great chance.
Mustarrid (1), yet another Ben Currie runner, is to be ridden by Dakota Graham. She has been in sensational form recently and this gelding has a massive weight but is down in class on recent runs. He will be hard to hold out in the Cup for 2018.
Brocson (2) from Mick Lakey stable will handle the distance and track. Justin Stanley lobs aboard for this start after winning on him 7 weeks ago at Esk over 1700 metres.
Selections: 3-1-2-10

Race 7
I saw Bullion Belle (4) slaughter a field back here on Australia Day – sure it was only in a maiden race but this Darryl Ward runner was super impressive. The blinkers have come off for this run. I expect a bold performance here in the last race. The mare will be partnered by Nathan Fazackerley again and the 3-kilogram claim could be very beneficial.
I think there are some genuine rough chances here in the last if you want to scout wide and look for some value!
Applause A Star (11) trained by Donald “Ducky” Baker has won on the track before. She has Hannah Phillips aboard and will carry a vey light weight here. She is second up - she has won second up. We all know how “Ducky” loves to land a long-priced winner – at $12 she is great each way value.
The other one that I like is Colpo Di Tamburo (12) who won last start at Nanango. He is only a three-year-old trained by Les Clarke and Grace Willoughby takes the ride here this week. He has drawn well, and I think at around the $21 mark he must be included in the chances.
Selections: 4-11-12-2 rough chance 3
