IPSW SEPT 17 - MANNERS PLEASE ROMPS IN
By Graham Potter | Sunday, September 20, 2009
Ipswich, September 17, 2009. Track - Good. Rail - out 7.5m. Class 2 Handicap - 800m. Time: 45.25. (New Class Record). 1 Manners Please; 2 Fille De Neig; 3 Kuwani Mocha.
WINNER FEEDBACK: Trainer Steele Ryan: “She pulled up a little bit sore after her last start (at Doomben in April). She gave her fetlock a bit of a wrench. So we had to tip her out and today, first-up, she was able to do the job.
“I’ve always had a big opinion of this filly. I took her to the bush to win a couple in a row last time in and then put her in a Saturday grade against her own age and sex (when unplaced, 6.30 lengths behind the smart Chakvetadze), so I wasn’t jumping that much out of my grade I wouldn’t think. That’s what I thought of her last time and I’m sure we’ll be going back to town pretty soon.”
Apprentice jockey Justin Wood: “I’ve ridden her in all her work and I know she is quite a talented mare. Last time in her form was ok with the six starts and two wins, but, in her work, I knew she was a much better horse this time. I knew she was a speed freak out of the gates ... I trialled her. She’s done exactly that. I knew there wouldn’t be much to beat her.
“I jumped out. I always thought Crazy Woman would be the one that had the pace with her. It did ... but when I had a look at it, it was not travelling the whole race and I was travelling quite good ... so I knew I had it beat. I knew when I came around the turn ... her work was right ... everything was spot on for today and she showed that. She did it well at both ends.”
STEWARDS REPORT EXTRACT: Approaching the 700m, Kuwani Mocha (M. Cahill) attempted to jump a discoloured section of the track and became unbalanced. After passing the 600m, Compolo (J. Byrne), which was over-racing, was inconvenienced when tightened for room by Zebakwe (M. Hellyer), which shifted in slightly.
Legal Star (G. Colless) was inclined to lay out near the 400m and as a result had to be steadied off the heels of Qwerty (D. Griffin). In the early part of the straight, Compolo was held up and unable to improve. Compolo was not ridden to the line in J. Byrne's normal manner due to his mount having to be steadied off the heels of Fille De Neige (L. Cassidy).
Following the race, J. Byrne reported that Compolo hung out throughout and proved difficult to ride.
A post race veterinary examination of Annalisha failed to reveal any significant abnormalities. A post race veterinary examination of Compolo revealed the horse to be showing heat in the near-foreleg. Trainer W. Trimble was advised that he must provide a veterinary clearance for Compolo prior to its next race start.
