ANNUAL KILCOY VETERAN’S RACE DAY:
Well we are back at KILCOY Race Club for their Kilcoy Veteran’s Race Day.
The Club has a great day out planned with six thoroughbred races scheduled. Also there is the popular pacing on the course proper – with three races scheduled – PACING ON THE TURF! Not to forget the families and the children there will be three mini trot races with the kids and their ponies going around.
What a great program!
The track is rated “GOOD” and the rail will be in the true position the meeting.
There is forecast for wonderful warm weather for this great meeting! If you have nothing to do this weekend get along to this wonderful track!
NB: As this form assessment was made prior to race-day, please check final fields and track conditions for any changes on the day.

Race 1
A small field of three-year old’s facing the starter here in the first race.
The Desleigh Forster stable have brought a few runners to Kilcoy this weekend.
Her first runner is Alcazar (3) to be ridden by Beau Appo. This mare won here in December 2017 in her only run at the track when ridden with a 11/10 ride from Jimmy Orman. I am certain she will be difficult to beat here again this weekend.
The other runners are difficult to assess – any of them could improve and pop up and fill the placings.
Selections: 3-1-5-2

Race 2
A few Brisbane trainers have brought some horses here looking for a win at the Kilcoy track.
Chris Munce has Tevye (4) engaged. He has drawn barrier 1 and loves to lead – so that is perfect form for the Kilcoy track. Another nice ride for Beau Appo for the Munce Racing team.
Tevye’s un at Grafton over the Carnival was very good despite finishing third. He then went to Ballina and was run down late when he was sent out a short-priced favourite. I think that he gets his chance to get a win on the board for his owners this weekend.
Troy Pascoe has Line Up (3) entered. She has not had a start here at the track but this mare always races handy in her runs. Jed Hodge has been booked to ride her. He rides this track very well and will give her every chance.
Desleigh Forster has another runner in this race – Wake Up Sailor (5) - who in the past has led in his races. He drops back in class here and could pop up.
Selections: 4-3-5-1

Race 3
A large field here for the maiden over 1500 metres.
I have gone right down to the bottom of the field to find the winner (I hope).
Sarah’s Jule (13) is trained by Damien Batters and to be partnered by Nozi Tomizawa. She led at her last start at the Gold Coast in her second ever career start over 1300 metres and, to be fair, looked good and just seemed to run out of condition. That run was a fortnight ago and I think she would strip fitter here this weekend and will be difficult to beat.
Noble Thought (2), to be ridden by Melissa Cox, has been racing consistently over these distances. He has had two months off since his last run at Lismore, however, has had some barrier trials recently to get him ready for this assignment at Kilcoy.
Victory Star (6), trained by Ben Robinson, steps up in distance here to 1500 metres for the first time with Jarrod Woodhouse in the saddle. He likes this track however, has yet to pick up a trophy for any of his wins here!
Heather Joan (8) is to be ridden by Nathan Thomas and his last two runs at Casino and Lismore he suggests that this distance will be ideal for this assignment. I hope that he takes up a position just off the speed from barrier 11 – that should make him competitive here.
Selections: 13-2-8-6

Race 4
Ben Currie has Solar Lady (3) in this race with apprentice Leah Kilner aboard here this weekend. She has been riding very well with several winners in recent weeks for the Currie stables. I think she may just notch up another one here.
This runner always races near the speed and she should be well suited by this Kilcoy track. She won at Rockhampton two starts ago over the mile and then carried a massive weight at Gatton when sent out as favourite and just could not finish off the race.
Singaraja (2) won here at this distance when ridden by Bek Williams to provide her with her first ever win at the Kilcoy track. She is not riding this weekend, however, has passed the reins to Beau Appo to see if he can get this Graham Banks trained runner home here again.
The other runners are even – so take your pick for mine.
Selections: 3-2-8-11

Race 5
Our feature race – the 2018 Butler McDermott Lawyers Vietnam Veteran’s Cup.
Rainbow Spirit (7) has won here twice in three starts and loves the track. I think that he is a good chance here for trainer Jim Murdoch. This runner won here at the last Kilcoy meeting on 16 June and then won again at Deagon before a recent failure at Gympie. Forgive the run at Gympie and go on the consecutive wins. Nathan Thomas is aboard for his first ride on this runner.
Zendaye (6) is the likely danger - trained by Desleigh Forster. This runner will run the 1200 metres out and all his five career starts have been over this distance. He has won here as well in November 2017 in his only start here. So that places him as a good chance in this race.
Isis Magic (1) will probably race near the lead for the Ben Currie stables and again will be piloted by Leah Kilner. I just doubt whether this mare runs out a strong 1200 metres. Maybe I will be proven wrong this weekend!
Sweet Repeat (4) is trained by Donald “Ducky” Baker and will be ridden by Nathan Fazackerley who won the Queensland Racing leading Country Apprentice title in 2017/18. He challenged WINNO to 60 seconds interview – that will happen mate – next time I see you!
This runner has been running over 1000 metres and I think she is a better runner over 1200 metres. This weekend she gets to run over 1200 metres and we may see a marked improvement.
Selections: 7-6-4-1

Race 6
The last race – a massive field over 1200 metres with many chances.
Courting Joy (8) is trained by Graham Banks and has run well here in the past. He does tend to get out of his ground, but I think the speed in the race will enable him to motor home here and be competitive. Another runner for Ben Currie is The Showman (6). Can he put a show on here at Kilcoy and get away with the last race on the big program? He does like to lead so he will be in front, I would suggest, turning into the straight and may just be too hard to run down with Leah Kilner aboard.
Hightower (4) has raced well here in the past as well. Maybe he can fill a hole in the last race.
Coonowrin Ruby (9) has multiple wins and placings here and on his day will take up a forward position. However, drawn in barrier 8 – he may find it difficult to jump and cross The Showman (6).
Selections: 8-6-4-9 rough chance 11
