SCST SEPT 20 - JACARANDA LEADER GETS THE JOB DONE

Sunshine Coast, September 20, 2009.
Track - Good 3. Rail - out 2m.
Class 6 Plate (Set Weights) - 1600m. Time: 1-37.66.
1 Jacaranda Leader; 2 Costa Mucho; 3 Riseupsinging.

Jacaranda Leader’s position alternated between fourth and fifth, some three lengths off the leader in the stretch to the home turn. Fourth, switched four wide on straightening, Jacaranda Leader put in the big bounds early in the straight and he was in front by the 220m.

Two runners threatened to spoil the grey’s party. Riseupsinging was a persistent threat on the inside rail while Costa Mucho also ranged up to challenge after coming from second last on the bend.

The problem facing these two challengers was that they had caught Jacaranda Leader in a galloping mood and when he is on song he is a difficult horse to peg back. The six-year-old just kept kicking and his effort was good enough to keep Costa Mucho and Riseupsinging back in the minor placings.

WINNER FEEDBACK:
Trainer Bruce Ruming: “He’s been a problem. He’s had a bad joint and we’ve been taking him to the beach a fair bit. A good mate of mine has been helping me with him. He is a wizard with a horse with bad legs. He’s been helping us a fair bit. Hopefully we are back on track again. He fought on well. Hopefully he can get over 2000m. That’s our aim.”

Jockey Damian Browne: “I had a pretty cosy run throughout the race. I thought on his form he’s probably the best horse in the race. He ran well last start at Doomben. I just wanted an uninterrupted run. Like I say, he had a pretty soft run mid-race and so I was able to go a little bit earlier than I needed to and just give him clear galloping room.

“He was still finding at the end. Like at the furlong the other horse (Costa Mucho) sort of come at me. I thought, maybe, him having the drop on me, he might have had me beat, but my horse, to his credit, dug deep and got the job done.”

PRICE FLUCTUATIONS:
Winner (Jacaranda Leader): 2.70 in to 2.50.
The winner was the favourite.

STEWARDS REPORT EXTRACT:
A. Pattillo, rider Dell Amby, explained that that the mare travelled reasonably well throughout and ran on fairly. He added that the slow tempo of today's race did not suit the mare. Following the race Dell Amby was examined by the veterinary surgeon and no abnormalities were detected. Seen'em Comin' (M. Hughes) lost its near-fore plate in running.
