WINNO'S ORIGIN TEASER. STIRRING THE ORIGIN FIRE
By Darren Winningham | Thursday, November 29, 2018
Winno is seldom shy to show his true colours and nothing gets him going quite like a State Of Origin Series where he just sees blue, wears blue … and, as we all know with the majority of State of Origin results, sometimes feels blue. Here he is though, very much on the front foot, giving his early thoughts on the TAB Origin Jockeys Series which takes place at Doomben on December 7 and December 8
The State of Origin Jockey Series kicks off next week on Friday at Doomben.
The teams look very competitive again this year with Luke Nolen and Brett Prebble leading the Victorian team who won last year
Can they be the first State to go back to back?
The other teams are: Tasmania represented by Craig Newitt and Brendon McCoull - South Australia have Dwayne Dunn and Jamie Kah – whilst the kiwis have a strong team with Damian Browne and Jason Collett.
The Queensland team comprise of Jim Byrne and Matthew McGillivray – maybe QLD can win something this year after being flogged in the real State of Origin by the mighty NSW earlier this year! Maybe not!
Meanwhile my team of choice is the powerful and mighty NSW who will be represented by Corey Brown and Brad Stewart – a formidable combination as both jockeys have been riding in sensational form recently!
Brad Stewart is a late call up for the popular NSW based Tye Angland who has ridden in every series since it’s inauguration. Tye was involved in a race fall at Sha Tin last Sunday and has undergone surgery earlier this week. The whole of the racing community's thoughts and prayers are with Tye, Erin and the Angland family at this time.
With the rides for each team unannounced at this stage I am tipping a close battle between NSW and the New Zealanders.
I would hope UBET can offer a wooden spoon option this year as I will have something on Queensland for that honour! (I am sure Jim Byrne will have something to say about that).
All feedback is welcome. Just send it to Hong Kong via express post, because that is where I will be next week covering their International Races.
