SCST SEPT 18 - PATMOSS STRIKES AGAIN

By Graham Potter | Sunday, September 20, 2009

Sunshine Coast, September 18, 2009.
Cushion Track.
Class 3 Handicap - 1400m. Time: 1-25.89.
1 Patmoss; 2 Damashqui; 3 Maximiss.

WINNER FEEDBACK:
Trainer Robert Bradshaw: “He’s in form. You can’t fault him. He did get a long way back this time. I was a bit worried. I didn’t know what he was doing way back there, but it made no difference to the result. The owner didn’t really want to back him up, but we did and the rest is history again.”

Apprentice jockey Michael Hughes: “Robert (Bradshaw) said last week (before Patmoss won at 90-1) that the horse doesn’t really have the runs on the board, but he has been working really good. You know he came out today, as you saw last week, he won better than that ... but he didn’t race to the same pattern.

“He couldn’t go with the speed today. Robert wanted him to have pretty much the same race ... with the stable-mate in the lead and for me to be a bit handy, but ... grass to the Cushion ... he just couldn’t go and muster that speed. I just had to try and drive it, drive it ... but, in the end, I just had to let them go and take a sit.

“He got a fair way back and didn’t really have anywhere to go at one stage. I had a lot of horse. It was just a matter of getting the right runs. It was just a matter of waiting to see where I was. Everyone seems to want to fan on the turn here. When I gave him a bit of rein ... a bit of a niggle ... he put himself straight there and we got a lovely little run through.”

STEWARDS REPORT EXTRACT:
Damashqui (J. Byrne) and Many Talents (K. Pope) were slow to begin. Bizante (M. Radecker) raced wide throughout.

When questioned regarding the disappointing performance of Many Talents, K. Pope stated that after the horse was slow to begin it was reluctant to show its customary speed and obtained a position at the rear of the field. K. Pope further added that the horse never travelled comfortably and was hard ridden throughout the race. A post-race veterinary examination of Many Talents failed to reveal any significant abnormalities. Stewards intend to interview trainer M. Mair regarding the performance of Many Talents.

When asked to explain the disappointing performance of Ruakiwi Roller, C. Priest stated that the horse travelled well in the early and middle stages, however after leaving the 600m the horse failed to respond to her riding and compounded to finish a distant last . A post-race veterinary examination of Ruakiwi Roller failed to reveal any significant abnormalities.

When questioned regarding the disappointing performance of Bizante, M. Radecker stated that the horse did not show its early gate speed, however due to the horse having returned from a short spell she was not overly concerned. M. Radecker further stated that the horse travelled well within itself however when placed under pressure in the straight, it failed to respond and began to weaken from the 200m. A post-race veterinary examination of Bizante revealed the horse to be coughing. Trainer T. Hess will be informed he would be required to provide to stewards the results of an endoscopic examination on Bizante and a veterinary clearance prior to its next race start.
