DOOM SEPT 26 - CORNWALL PARK KEEPS PERFECT RECORD INTACT

By Graham Potter | Monday, September 28, 2009

Doomben, September 26, 2009.
Track - Good 3. Rail - out 3.5m.
NMW Handicap - 1350m. Time: 1-19.46.
1 Cornwall Park; 2 One Eyed; 3 Mystic Vibe.

WINNER FEEDBACK:
Trainer Alan Bailey: “He’s going good. I’ve got a good opinion of him. I was just a disappointed with his weight today. Now what do they do with him now? He wins like this today so, they’re right. I know he’s won, but he went up to 55.5kg and he is only a restricted horse. I don’t know what he’ll go to now. We’ll just have to wait now and put him in one of those Class 6’s where he can get back on the limit ... where they can’t touch him. Unless you put him in a set weights race now, you’re gone.

“You put him in a Class 6, he should go back in with the same weight, but do you they’d put him back in the race with the same weight? It’s just like that little filly of Trevor Whittington’s (Femina Fashion, who raced in race 2). She went up 4.5kg for one win. How was she going to win? She had no chance of winning.

“Yeah, it was an aggressive ride from Scottie (Seamer). You’ve got to ride him like that, because he hangs on the corners. He hasn’t worked that out yet. If you let him go on the corners ... and let him go flat out when he hits the corners ... then he gets around them alright. But if you try to get him around he wants to lay over on them a bit.

“I said to Scottie when you come to that corner today, let loose on him. He ran the last 400m in 22.60. No wonder they never run him down, hey.

“But he is only a young horse on the way up. He’s a four-year-old and he’s only had four starts. He won on debut in June then he had a good break. He got a bit of infection in his back joint and we just had to flush it out ... and he got caught up in EI when we first got him ... so he’s had plenty of time and he’s showing the benefit. What we don’t get now, we might get later.

Of all the rules they’ve made in racing, I think the day they stop racing the two-year-olds until after Christmas it will be the best rule they will ever make, as far as racing is concerned.”

Jockey Scott Seamer: “The last 100m was the straightest part of it. Yeah, he is a nice young horse on the way up. I ran third to him last start and Glen (Colless) he had trouble keeping the horse off me. I knew he would lay in a bit. He still wanted to do it. The last 100, I gave him a couple of cracks and he went straight and he really got to the line.

“He is a horse that can gather them up quite quickly. Because he has a tendency to lay in, I wanted to get ahead of most of them, that’s why I fired him up on the turn.”

STEWARDS REPORT EXTRACT:
Shamir (A. Pattillo) was tightened on jumping away between Telesto Warrior (App M. Speers) and Cornwall Park (S. Seamer), which shifted in. Bernado (B. Stewart) and Mystic Vibe (App M. B. Stewart the rider of Bernado pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding under AR137(a) in that he permitted his mount to shift out approaching the 300m when insufficiently clear of Manoloblahniks, which had to be checked to avoid that horse's heels. B. Stewart's licence to ride in races was suspended for a period of 8 meetings to commence immediately and expire midnight 7 October 2009.

S. Seamer the rider of Cornwall Park was found guilty of a charge of careless riding under AR137(a) in that he failed to take sufficient measures to prevent his mount from shifting in near the 200m taking One Eyed (App O. Seamer's licence to ride in races was suspended for a period of 5 meetings to commence midnight 1 October 2009 and expire midnight 9 October 2009.
