WINNO'S WINNERS: EAGLE FARM, APRIL 27

By Darren Winningham | Friday, April 26, 2019

EAGLE FARM RACES – SATURDAY 27 APRIL 2019

Eagle Farm this weekend with the track rated “GOOD.” The rail is out 7 metres the entire course. The weather looks promising for the rest of the week so we should be racing on a surface that will be great for racing.

I am in Hong Kong at the invitation of the Hong Kong Jockey Club with the prestigious FWD Champion’s Day. So, this week we will be brief and straight to the point.

I am going to say no favourites will win on this program – well maybe one! A WINNO ‘bold statement’.

NB: As this form assessment was made prior to race-day, please check final fields and track conditions for any changes on the day.

***************************************************************************************************

Race 1

I think Tony Gollan may start off the day on a winning note with Oakfield Monarch (6) at around the $7 mark. I think he has been looking for this longer distance. There Is a key booking of Blake Shinn – look for this one to settle and storm home late.

The danger is the David Vandyke trained Coral Coast (5)who posted a win last start in a midweek meeting at Doomben. There has been some good support for this one since the markets have opened.

Selections: 6-5-3-4

**************************************************************************************************

Race 2

Le Juge (3) has been racing in great consistent form for the Chris Waller stables at the Gold Coast. Could be a race to race double for Blake Shinn. He is favourite and looks a great chance here after posting two successive wins.

The stable mate is Veladero (7) who will be better suited at Eagle Farm – Jeff Lloyd is aboard.

Michael Costa has two runners here as well – The Chairman (4) and Gold Ambition (10). Gold Ambition (10) likes to get back and make a sustained run late. As long as the leaders are not dominating with the rail out 7metres I think he may be the one finishing the race off fastest.

Selections: 3-10-7-4 rough chance 2

*************************************************************************************************

Race 3

The Avenger (7) is another Chris Waller runner that I thought would appreciate the step up to the mile this weekend. His recent runs suggest that he is looking for the longer distance and Ryan Maloney is in the saddle. Impasse (5) is the stable mate who deserves a change of luck.

Shogun Sun (12) is the pre post favourite and he ran a wonderful race last start here over 1400 metres. This is his first effort at the mile in his career – however, the last start would indicate that the extra 200 metres will be no issue.

Mymming (14) won here last start. Trained by Stuart Kendrick on the Sunshine Coast – this mare can usually string back to back wins once she strikes form. Be careful of this runner.

Selections: 7-12-14-5 rough chance 11

*************************************************************************************************

Race 4

Mahis Angel (2) is trained by Lloyd Kennewell who is in Hong Kong overseeing the preparation of his mare Viddora. She seems to have had some issues in recent days – but they are hoping that she will be right come race day on Sunday at Sha Tin.

This runner is first up in Queensland and has some solid form in the southern states – look for this one to be handy in the running and be tough to beat.

Rosendahl Red (1) missed a run last weekend due to the race being abandoned. She drops back to 1300 metres and Michael Hellyer who is riding very well of late has taken the ride. “Muppy” as I call him doesn’t get many chances in the city but when he does – watch out!

Shamurt (5) is trained by Gollan Racing – I like this horse but always seem to miss her. I see Blake Shinn has been booked to ride her this weekend. Maybe this will be a masterful stroke by Tony Gollan!

Our Echo (8) is second up for the Matthew Dunn Racing Team at Murwillumbah. His first up run was solid and he is undefeated second up. I think he will be very competitive here in this field.

Selections: 2-8-1-5 rough chance 10

***************************************************************************************************

Race 5 Dalrello Plate (Listed)

I like the Peter & Paul Snowden trained Yitai Synergy (11), The stable has been very patient with her and she has trialled recently and won her past two trials. I am suggesting that she has a big Brisbane Winter Carnival in front of here – whatever she does this weekend I will be following her. Kerrin McEvoy rides her this weekend and has partnered to victory in her two recent trials - $7 each way all day for me!

The other Sydney runner is the Mark Newnham trained Deep Sea (5) who debuted at Kensington midweek with an impressive victory a month ago. This runner I think will be better suited over the longer distances.

Tony Gollan trains Garibaldi (2) who I tipped when he won on debut here back in early February. He is a ready-made runner and after that victory was sent to Sydney to race in the Pierro Plate where he could have been considered unlucky at several stages of the race. Back to his home State and a track where he has tasted victory do not underestimate this runner at ridiculous odds of $11.

The top weight is Dubious (1) who won here as well before going around in the 2018 Golden Slipper. Forget that run on the heavy track – look for a big run this weekend on top of the ground.

Selections: 11-2-5-1 rough chance 3

*************************************************************************************************

Race 6

I like Splitter (5), another Gollan Racing runner, to salute here. He has won two out of his last three starts. He gets some weight relief with the claim for Baylee Nothdurft who is riding in great form – in fact he rode his first listed winner last weekend aboard the Kevin Kemp trained Mr Marbellouz.

There is an emergency here that if she gets the run may cause an upset at some odds. Angel Dane (17) is trained by Steve Tregea and will be ridden by Larry Cassidy.

The two Steven O’Dea trained runners could pose a threat as well – Totally Charmed (14) and Francisca (15).

Selections: 5-17-14-15 rough chance 2

************************************************************************************************

Race 7

Not a fan of the race. I have looked for some value.

Toby Edmonds trains I Am Impinge (9) who will be around $16 with Jag Guthmann-Chester in the saddle. He jumped awkwardly last start at Doomben and never got into his action. I think that this week, with a clean get away and the wide expanses of Eagle Farm, he gets conditions to suit. The other factor is that he has great form third up!

Happy Hooves (6) is a runner who gets back and needs luck in his runs. I think that on this big track and with Jackson “McLovin” Murphy in the saddle he may just get some luck and be able to come home late with some speed engaged in this race.

Jimmy Orman (dad to be – congratulations to you and Heidi mate) rides All From Scrap (7) who was disadvantaged in the straight at Toowoomba last start before getting out late and flying at them. Given a clear run this weekend by Orman look out for a dramatically improved effort - $9 on offer as well!

Some of my other selections have drawn wide – maybe they will run – or maybe be scratched for another day.

Selections: 9-6-7-5 rough chances 12 & 13

***************************************************************************************************

Race 8 Gunsynd Classic (Group 3)

Gem Song (1) is the short-priced favourite here. He has been racing in Listed company in Sydney and to be fair has put some nice runs together. On his last effort he was looking for a mile and he gets that this weekend. Kris Lees trains this runner at Newcastle and Blake Shinn to ride.

I am going against the odds-on favourite and tipping another Peter and Paul Snowden runner to cause a boilover!

Napoleon Solo (4) is second up here over the mile. The run when resuming over 1400 metres was awesome and I think that he can go on with it here second up this weekend at Eagle Farm at around $5.

Trusty Lad (2) resumed from a spell last start and ran a wonderful race (I did tip this). He is second up this weekend where his record is equivocal. I am taking this runner on trust and I know he will like the mile.

Gem Dealer (14) faced a checked run in the Toowoomba Guineas last start. Given an uninterrupted run this weekend this Brett Cavanough runner could cause a boilover with Jeff Lloyd aboard.

Selections: 4-1-2-14 rough chances 12

**************************************************************************************************

Race 9 Victory Stakes WFA (Group 2)

This sees the Team Snowden war horse Redzel return to Queensland – another short-priced favourite. Look he will probably be extraordinarily hard to beat but I want to see him win again before I jump on.

I am tipping Tony Gollan to cause an upset with his runner I’m A Rippa at around $19. This runner loves to lead and dominate in front – hopefully he will be able to do that.

The other roughie is the ultra-competitive and consistent Stella Victoria (8) who won a recent barrier trial in slashing fashion winning by 6 lengths. This runner is trained by Rob Heathcote. This might be the last weekend we get to see the pink and black checks (stable colours) as he has formed a partnership with Chris Anderson and their colours have been amalgamated for the new stable!

Winter Bride (6) from Edmonds Racing has been well supported in the markets. She is a tough mare with solid third up form – she will be looking for a Group win here and will be competitive in the weeks to come.

Selections: 2-1-8-6 rough chance 6

*************************************************************************************************

Race 10

This is a tough race to finish off the program.

I think you must consider the two Edmonds Racing runners – Cadogan (1) and Curdled (8) – and why not keep the “C” theme going with Capital Connection (7). It could very well be a THREE “C”’s trifecta in the last race! Maybe even four if Chapter and Verse (11) manages to fill the fourth place!

Cadogan (1) resumes from a spell here and will be ridden by Jackson Murphy who formed a formidable partnership with this gelding last preparation with 3 rides for 3 wins (actually in a row) before he was injured in a race fall. He reunites with this runner – that he describes as one of his favourites - for the first up run this weekend. His recent trial at the Gold Coast was solid.

Curdled (8) will be ridden by Blake Shinn. This Segenhoe owned gelding always turns up in his runs and rarely puts in a bad race. Forget the last start at Toowoomba where I think the track may have had an impact on his performance. Back up to 1200 metres this weekend – WATCH OUT!

Capital Connection (3) may have been another runner who didn’t appreciate the Toowoomba track. Prior to that effort he won here in nice style at the track and distance.

Freddie Foxtrot (3) ran a credible race in the recent Listed Gold Coast Goldmarket – do not underestimate this runner.

Chapter and Verse (11) and Prince of Tie (12) both come off last start wins – they could cause an upset in this open field!

Selections: 8-1-7-3 rough chance 11 & 12

WINNO V FLEMO

Josh as usual was in great form after a spell – he won easily last weekend. Let’s see him back it up this weekend – maybe he is like his Broncos – and will CHOKE! Be sure to check the up to date and amended tips each Saturday morning on Facebook after any track changes of scratchings!
