JOHN MOORE TALKS ABOUT HIS CHAMPION AS BEAUTY GENERATION ADDS ANOTHER NOTCH ONTO HIS BELT

By Darren Winninghjam | Monday, April 29, 2019

The scene is set – we have arrived at 4.00pm (Hong Kong time) Sunday 28 April 2019 – it is FWD Champions’ Day Mile featuring the John Moore trained BEAUTY GENERATION. The Hong Kong and current world champion has gone onto the track – the track is full of expectation and anticipation.

Jumping at the short price of $1.05 on the Hong Kong tote, jockey Zac Purton took the champion miler straight to the front and controlled the race from that point onwards.

While the winning margin wasn't as great as some of his victories this season, the John Moore-trained gelding was never out of second gear - coasting to the line under a hold.

"The whole world knows that we've got one hell of a miler over here," Moore said.

The win, Beauty Generation's ninth in a row, made it back-to-back Champions Mile victories and took his overall record to 17 wins from 30 starts.

Purton said: “It's what we expected him to do today.

"When he's out in front like that mid-race and there's nothing around pushing him, he just floats a little bit so my job was to try to keep him rolling a little bit and let him do the rest. It's hard to say how much more he's got there but he did his job and that's all you can do.”

After the victory I was able to walk with John Moore and his wife Fifi Moore on the track on the way to the victory photo and presentation.

I asked could I be so bold as to ask a question – that I am not sure has been posed to him. He said go ahead and I asked the question, “Is Beauty Generation better than WINX?"

To which he quickly responded: “No, No, No …. It is about the country. For Hong Kong we have a star and racegoers have got something really to envy and for the stable to enjoy whilst it goes on.”

“With respect to WINX …. WINX is folk law. She is the Phar Lap of my generation. I would never compare them."

He went on to say, “it would have been nice for them to have met – but they are never going to meet so we are just going to talk about BEAUTY GENERATION in Asia and WINX in Australia”

Moore’s champion, the son of Road To Rock, pocketed the HK$10.26 million first prize which took his overall Hong Kong earnings to HK$84,770,000 – HK$1,572,500 clear of Viva Pataca who held the pervious stakes winning record.

Beauty Generation also set a record winning eight races in a season while, at the same time, extending his current winning sequence to nine.

Purton is now on 21 Hong Kong Group 1 wins – just one short of equalling the record held by Gerald Mosse.
