JAKE BAYLISS LOOKING TO MAKE HIS MARK IN BRISBANE
By Darren Winningham | Wednesday, May 1, 2019
Jake Bayliss said he was “lucky to have a voice left” after nearly shouting himself hoarse when cheering his brother Regan home aboard Champion Supreme in the FWD Insurance CCB (Asia) Handicap (1600m) on FWD Champions Day at Sha Tin on Sunday. After taking the John Moore-trained three-year-old back in the field, Regan Bayliss navigated a winning path down the straight and then sat down and rode hard in the last 100 metres to claim an emphatic victory. Prior to the race Jake approached HRO’s Graham Potter and WINNO to say if he can win this race “I am going to go nuts. I would love to see him win a race here today.” At this point WINNO got him to become an honorary HRO reporter – providing him with a cap to wear whilst trackside. After the race Jake was elated for his brother saying, “We’ve had plenty of proud family moments but that’s definitely right up there with one of my favourites I’m lucky to have a voice left.”
“I’ve just finished a contract in New Zealand, and I had a week off, so I came straight here to support him.” “The week so far has been absolutely unreal, and it’s just topped it off to watch him ride a winner here at Sha Tin.” Jake, who like Regan is a Group 1 winning jockey, is preparing for a stint in Brisbane for the Winter Carnival and said he’d like to one day follow his brother to Asia. “I’ll be based in Brisbane for the next three or four months and then I’ll have to make my decision what the next move is after that,” he said. He told WINNO, “I will need to get into shape – but I will be ready to perform at my best in Brisbane”. Jake arrives in Brisbane on Wednesday hoping to make his mark in the Winter Carnival. His manager whilst he is there is Joshua Jones.
