SCST SEPT 27 - MR SOLITARY LEADS CAVALRY CHARGE

By Graham Potter | Tuesday, September 29, 2009

Sunshine Coast, September 27, 2009.
Track - Good 3. Rail - out 4m.
Class 2 Handicap - 1400m. Time: 1-25.44.
1 Mr Solitary; 2 Queen Of Bling; 3 Amazing Dane.

It was a cavalry charge. That is the simple description of the finish of the race. Going to the finish, six runners were stretched across the track and right behind them was a second line of horses, eight in all. As commentators like to say when they are having difficulty, there were horses everywhere ... and right on the outside of the leading line was Mr Solitary, with jockey Stathi Katsidis working hard in the saddle. The photo showed Mr Solitary claimed the result.

The form of the race has to have a question mark behind it given that five horses finished within half-a-length of the winner and the twelfth placed runner finished only two lengths off the action.

WINNER FEEDBACK:
Trainer Jason McLachlan: “He is going to go straight to the paddock tomorrow. He’s just learning to race. I like the horse. I thought he might have raced a bit handier but he does seem to be able to switch on and off. Like I say, he’s still learning. We’ll just give him some more time now and I think he’ll come back a nice horse.”

Jockey Stathi Katsidis: “It was an ok win. The horse is going for a spell now which is good. He is just starting to mature. After he spells and comes back I think he is going to make a nice horse. I think he’ll definitely win races in town in the right company.”

STEWARDS REPORT EXTRACT:
Left Hook (K. Pope) jumped away awkwardly and missed the start. Tuscademus (J. Kropp) also jumped away awkwardly. Amaizemea (A. Spinks) jumped away awkwardly and shifted out making contact with Red Shadow (C. Priest). Real Grand (M. Heagney) and Dual Echelon (S. Drake) bumped on jumping away. Cheekysue (S. Galloway) and Triatys (M. Wood) raced wide throughout. Amazing Dane (P. Hammersley) was held up in the early stages of the straight. Near the 300m Cheekysue shifted out away from the heels of Mr Solidarity (S. Katsidis) and made contact with Triatsys.

When questioned regarding the seemingly disappointing performance of Cheekysue, S. Galloway stated that the horse had to work hard from its wide barrier under its big weight today and was then obliged to race wide for the majority of the event. However, he added that despite the horse having to race wide it may have come to the end of its current preparation. Trainer R. Pereira confirmed that the horse would now go for an immediate spell.
