EF SEPT 30 - ANOTHER TAKEOVER DOES IT EASY
By Graham Poter | Thursday, October 1, 2009
Eagle Farm, September 30, 2009. Track - Good 3. Rail - Out 11.5m. Class 5 Handicap - 1200m. Time: 1-10.31. 1 Another Takeover; 2 Woorim; 3 Danardos.
The more-than-useful Another Takeover scored an authoritive win here moving from second last to first in a matter of a little over 180m to have his race safely won a long before he crossed the line.
It was a supremely confident ride by jockey Paul Hammersley. The rider clearly knew how much horse he had under him as he angled the five-year-old away from the congested inside rail into clear running down the centre of the track. The gelding needed no second asking and he pounced, quickly dispatching his opposition with the minimum of fuss to score in a most comfortable fashion.
Hammersley in fact had time to look around, checking for any danger on either side of the five-year-old before having the luxury of being able to relax short of the line. It was a race well won.
WINNER FEEDBACK: Trainer David Kelly: “When he’s raced here before (at Eagle Farm where he had not won in eight previous starts) he’s just run into a few wet tracks. He is a better horse on top of the ground. We know that now. He was gelded before he came back in this time and he’s come back pretty focussed.
“The other day he sort of drew bad and (jockey) Luke (Rolls) went a bit too far forward on him. He is not that sort of horse. He needs to come from behind and finish off.
“He ran second in a Listed race as a two-year-old (in the Gunsynd Quality behind Woody ‘N’ Buzz). He was probably a bit stiff that day, so he is a good horse on his day. So I’m very happy ... stoked ... that he’s back to his good form.”
Jockey Paul Hammersley: “He got to the line very well. He made my job pretty easy. I’ve ridden this horse before. I’ve ridden him quite a few times and I’ve had a bit of luck on him. He’s always had a great finish on him.
“The only sort of concern I had was if they were going to go hard enough in a small field ... and also with the rail out. But, you know, he got a nice cart into the race and he was just too good for them. He is a Saturday class horse I think.”
PRICE FLUCTUATIONS: Winner (Another takeover): 5.00 out to 5.50. Favourite (Danardos): 2.10 out to 2.15 in to 2.10.
STEWARDS REPORT EXTRACT: Another Takeover (P. Hammersley) missed the start. Approaching the first turn Shegoeswell (App M. Speers) become unbalanced on two occasions.
Approaching the home turn Stature (App S. Bogenhuber) attempted to shift out from behind the heels of Shegoeswell (App M. Speers) and made contact with Danardos (B. Pengelly), which was racing on the outside causing it to become unbalanced. On straightening Stature was disappointed for a run between Shegoeswell and Danardos.
Near the 300m Stature when racing in restricted room inside of Danardos shifted out slightly forcing Woorim (L. Cassidy) to shift out away from its heels. ChaskiI (App C. McIver), which was racing between Woorim and Al Fawzi (D. Browne), had to be steadied when it shifted away from Woorim onto the heels of Al Fawzi, which had commenced to shift in. Chaski then had to be checked when tightened between Al Fawzi, which shifted in and Woorim, which shifted out. After considering all evidence stewards were unable to apportion total blame on any one particular rider as there were several contributing factors. App S. Bogenhuber the rider of Stature was nonetheless severely reprimanded for attempting to force a run on the inside of Danardos where there was insufficient room. Whilst stewards were mindful of App C. McIver's evidence that Chaski had over-reacted in the circumstances D. Browne (Al Fawzi) and L. Cassidy (Woorim) were both advised to ensure they were clear before shifting ground.
A post race veterinary examination of Chaski failed to reveal any abnormalities. A post race veterinary examination of Stature revealed the gelding had been galloped on the near-fore leg.
