WINNO'S WINNERS: EAGLE FARM, OCTOBER 12, 2019
By Darren Winningham | Thursday, October 10, 2019
Eagle Farm this weekend with the track rated “GOOD” and the rail is in the true position this weekend – so I assume horses against the rail – the “perceived fast lane” may get an advantage! There is some rain forecast late in the week in Brisbane – but I think we will be racing on a firm track still.
There has been a number of race falls recently – luckily most of the jockeys involved have escaped serious injury … but what has disturbed me have been the grubby key board warriors coming out attacking the jockeys and the participants of the sport.
I, for one, appreciate the effort that jockeys, track riders and strappers and trainers put in for our entertainment each week. The racing industry is worth billions across Australia each year. It just disappoints me when ill-informed people use the misfortune of others to have a crack!
Much respect and kudos to the participants in the sport. Like any worker who goes to work they deserve to come home in one piece and safe!
This weekend I will be heading to the Gold Coast my selections for Eagle Farm this weekend will short and to the point.
NB: As this form assessment was made prior to race-day, please check final fields and track conditions for any changes on the day
**************************************************************************************************
Race 1
A pretty even field here. Watch out for the “PIG” – Oink (1). I have not tipped him and I won’t be at the track. That is a winning formula for this horse!
Selections:
Tactee (6) Sir Barnabus (3) Polemic (4) Oink (1)
Race 2
The two-year-old’s step out here. I am hearing good reports about the two Sydney invaders – Pounce (14) trained by Team Hawkes and Strike (5) trained by Team Snowden. Seems a topical quinella! Do not underestimate the chances of the Toowoomba gelding Dark Son (1) trained by Tony and Maddy Sears who won the Pat O’Shea a fortnight ago on his home track.
Selections:
Pounce (14) Strike (5) Dark Son (1) Disco Lights (2) Race 3
Howwonderfullifeis (8) from the Gollan stables has been heavily backed since the markets have opened – the filly resumed with an imposing win at Sunshine Coast and ran some nice time leading all the way. I like The Odyssey (1) to bounce back this weekend third up from a spell – he has won previously third up.
Selections:
The Odyssey (1) Howwonderfullifeis (8) Jagged Edge (2) Ready to Roam (5)
Race 4
A tough race here. I like a roughie trained by Stuart Kendrick who is second up this weekend Masstoo (11). He looks well placed and Jim Byrne takes the ride.
Selections:
Masstoo (11) Elixir (4) Park Chinois (5) Umberto (1) Race 5
A great race here with some promising types. Jimmy Orman and Gem Of Scotland (1) are reunited this weekend. Despite the huge weight she looks well placed and I think she is looking for 1400 metres now. Her run last start suggested that the longer distance should suit.
There is some speed in the race that should see it run at a good tempo – watch for Orman to bring her wide and late. She always just seems to get there in the last bound! She is trained by Rex Lipp in Toowoomba.
Selections: Gem of Scotland (1) Xanthus (2) Ballistic Boy (5) The Sinner (4) Race 6
YUCK! One of these distance races where anything can happen. I have gone for some value with Akage (5) around $10 to improve over the longer distance this weekend – but it is a tough assignment!
Selections:
Akage (5) Pleased (1) Advanced Warning (11) Holbrook (8) Race 7
This is a very open race as well. I have gone for another roughie at $31 – Clairvue Missy (14) from the Chris Waller yards at the Gold Coast. I have always had an opinion of this filly. She has only one win in her career so far but I think at Eagle Farm on a large track and down in the weights she is wonderful each way value.
Red Stina (7) resumes after an 11 week spell – trained by Rex Lipp and to be ridden by Jake Bayliss who escaped serious injury in the race fall at Doomben on Monday.
Selections:
Clairvue Missy (14) Red Stina (7) Smug Satisfaction (5) Time To Play (1) Race 8
The open race over 1400 metres. Scallopini (3) looks well placed here by the Steven O’Dea Racing team and will be ridden by the apprentice of the moment Stephanie Thornton – she is riding in sensational form! These two have been lethal together in recent months. They posted another win last weekend in the first race here with the talented two-year-old – Gotta Kiss.
Selections:
Scallopini (3) The Avenger (5) Cadogan (7) Fortensky (4) Race 9
A tough race to finish off the day. Take your pick and play wide. The Stuart Kendrick runners look well placed here – Tambo’s Mate (7) and I Dream Of Green (14).
Tambo’s Pride (7) is second up and will appreciate the step up in distance. The stable mate I Dream Of Green (14) drops back to 1200 metres. I think last start he did not appreciate the 1350 metres – look for a bold improvement with the smiling assassin and NRL Roosters supporter Ryan Wiggins to ride!
Selections: Tambo’s Mate (7) I Dream Of Green (14) Valario (11) Deep Image (2) Rough chances 1 & 9

Looks like a good battle this weekend with some nice rides for Jim Byrne, Michael Cahill, and the youngsters Jimmy Orman and Baylee Nothdurft. I will go for Jim Byrne but save on Michael Cahill.

WINNO V FLEMO
FLEMO flogged me last weekend – well done mate! I just want to pay credit to him as well this week. I was watching the race on Monday when the race fall occurred, and four jockeys crashed to the turf at Doomben. Josh’s voice and urgency said it all but the true professional he is he went back finished the race, but all the time showed concern and compassion for the fallen riders – well done mate!
Be sure to check the up to date and amended tips each Saturday morning on Facebook after any track changes of scratchings!
Good luck and good punting!
