WINNO'S WINNERS: EAGLE FARM, OCTOBER 19, 2019

By Darren Winningham | Thursday, October 17, 2019

Eagle Farm this weekend with the track rated “GOOD.” The rail is in the true position - so I assume horses against the rail - the “perceived fast lane” - may get an advantage!

NB: As this form assessment was made prior to race-day, please check final fields and track conditions for any changes on the day

Race 1

An average race to start the day off - not keen - however, Jake Bayliss and Stephen Lee seem to be having a good run lately – maybe we should get on Pleased (3). Do not underestimate the chances of the other NSW Northern Rivers runner – Peak Hill (8) trained by Danny Bowen. We just may see an improved effort on a large track.

Selections:

Pleased (3)
Peak Hill (8)
Boncosta (1)
Ready For Danger (2)

Race 2

The two-year-old’s step out here. Gotta Kiss (1) from the Steven O’Dea stables was superb on debut a fortnight ago. She looks a nice type and maybe can get the second win on the board. The danger is the Rob Heathcote trained Rothfire (3) who has been trialling well and who has met with some good support since the markets have opened.

Selections:

Gotta Kiss (1)
Rothfire (3)
Mishani Machine (4)
Disco Lights (2)

Race 3

The Gollan / Nothdurft team seems the way to go here with Shalwa (10) second up from a spell. She won a recent barrier trial and looked like she will be hard to beat here. The knock out chance must be the Desleigh Forster trained Cabalo Escuro (11) who resumes from a spell after a solid barrier trial win. She may pop up here at decent odds!

Selections:

Shalwa (10)
Cabalo Escuro (11)
Vienna Power (2)
V J Day (6)

Race 4

Smartypy (7) resumes here for the Munce Racing team. She won a recent barrier trial at Doomben and I think she is well placed here – with $6 on offer she looks a great each way chance, Jadentom (4), who resumes here for trainer Lindsay Hatch, always races well fresh (3 wins and a second from 4 first up efforts). Brad Stewart is in the saddle and I expect this mare to run well. Raiden (6) is third up this week for Stuart Kendrick and they have elected to go for the claim for apprentice Baylee Nothdurft.

Selections:

7 – Smartypy (7)
4 – Jadentom (4)
3 – Removal (3)
6 – Raiden (6)

Race 5

Aeecee Tong De (4) is another runner for Desleigh Foster who goes well here at Eagle Farm – lasts start she was narrowly beaten by Enterprise Prince and despite going up in the weights should be right in this race. Francisca (6) has the blinkers on this weekend – watch out for an improved effort! Dawson Diva (9) is second up for trainer Garnett Taylor and jockey Ryan Wiggins. She ran a gallant second in the 2019 QLD Oaks (Group 1) and she must be respected here. Joymaker (10) was unlucky last start and was storming home late – she will be in this race up to her eyeballs.

Selections:

Aeecee Tond De (4)
Francisca (7)
Joymaker (10)
Dawson Diva (9)

Race 6

Cool Consequence (3) looks another nice chance for the Steven O’Dea Racing stables who seems to be having great success lately. He will probably lead and take some running down. If there is one at odds that will challenge and may race well fresh it is Crafty Spirit (9) from the Danny Bougoure stables. He is down in the weights and I expect will be the runner at odds to upset these more fancied runners. Stella Victoria (6) is a Heathcote runner who resumes as well. She is down in class and I would probably have had her on top if the race was at Doomben – that being said she will be competitive here this weekend with Robbie Fradd aboard.

Selections:

Cool Consequence (3)
Crafty Spirit (9)
Stella Victoria (6)
Tawfiq Boy (5)

Race 7

A tough way to open this week’s Quaddie. I think the Chris Waller runners have the race between them – Another Dollar (4) and Auerbach (8). I have gone for the value runner with Another Dollar (4) second up over the mile.

Selections:

Another Dollar (4)
Auerbach (8)
Zofonic Dancer (10)
Sabkhat (2)

Race 8

The open race over 1200 metres for the program. Better Reflection (1) resumed three weeks ago with an awesome effort at Doomben for trainer John Wigginton. This weekend they have elected to put apprentice Nick Keal on and his 3-kilogram claim will assist her chances this weekend. Spirit House (11), from Gollan Racing, I think was unsuited first up at Ipswich and will strip fitter here and will appreciate the larger track. Zac Attack (8) is trained by the dynamic duo of Toby & Trent Edmonds. She had a soft win last start at Grafton when she led all the way. From barrier 2 this weekend she will probably take up the running again and with Matthew McGillivray aboard she again may be hard to run down if she gets some cheap sectionals out in front.

Selections:

Better Reflection (1)
Spirit House (11)
Zac Attack (8)
My Boy Sam (7)

Race 9

A tough race here with many chances. I liked the effort of Goodonya Sonja (5) second up here a fortnight ago for trainer Lindsay Gough. I think that the race was not run to suit her and she was placed under pressure at various stages in the running. This weekend Jackson “McLovin” Murphy takes the ride. His claim gets her in nicely here.
Gollan’s runner Trail of Glory (7) hasn’t had much luck here at Eagle Farm but her last win at Doomben would suggest that she will be competitive this weekend. Flaming Boss (9) looks the likely leader for the Tony and Maddy Sears training team. He is undefeated in both of his career starts and she will be out in front for a long way. This is his first look at Eagle Farm and 1200 metres – maybe this is the only concern.

Selections:

Goodonya Sonja (5)
Trail of Glory (7)
Dreamreacher (8)
Flaming Boss (9)
Rough chance 10

Race 10

A tough race to finish off the day. The Kelly Schweida trained Prince of Tie (7) resumed a fortnight ago on the Gold Coast and won easily. If he throws in another effort like that this weekend he should be winning again. Sparky Lad (12) is second up this weekend and, despite drawing wide, should strip fitter after the first up effort where he did look like he needed the run.
Time To Play (10) comes off a dominant win last weekend for Gary Doughty here over the track and distance. Nick Keal remains aboard. There in no reason why he cannot post consecutive wins in seven days.
Barefoot (15) never fired first up at Doomben over 1350 metres. With some speed in the race this weekend look for an improved effort.

Selections:

7 – Prince of Tie (7)
12 – Sparky Lad (12)
10 – Time to Play (10)
15 – Barefoot (15)
Rough chance 2

Jockey’s Challenge

Looks like a good battle this weekend with some nice rides for Jim Byrne and Ryan Maloney. Maybe a slight edge for Jim Byrne – Jake Bayliss could be a rough hope as well.
