Race 9 2019 CAULFIELD CUP

Always a tough race these days with the international visitors. Who knows the ones who have settled in – the ones that have thrived since arriving etc– this race keeps getting tougher each year.

I think team HAYES holds the key to the race this year with their runners – Rostropovich (5) and Constantinople (11). Rostropovich (5) is third up this preparation. I watched him run in the 2018 HK Vase at Sha Tin after he ran a wonderful race in the 2018 Melbourne Cup. I think that his runs warrant respect here and he should be right in the race. The stable mate Constantinople (11) makes his Australian debut. My Victorian spies tell me he has been working solidly in recent weeks and will go well fresh.

The two runners coming out of the 2019 Queensland Derby warrant respect as well. I anticipate a genuine tempo in the race and these two will thrive under these conditions. Keep your eyes on Mr Quickie (12) and Vow and Declare (14) – particularly the later runner who looks a ready-made runner for the Melbourne Cup in a few weeks but will need to acquit himself well here this weekend.
The Chosen One (16) comes off an exciting win in the Herbert Power after multiple gear changes for that run. It is only a short turn around (1 week) but he may back up well.

It is an open race – play wide and hopefully reap the rewards!

Race 10

A massive shout out to my great mate Michael “Muppy” Hellyer who retains his association with Baccarat Baby (8) and the David Vandyke stable. He is looking for his first Group 2 winner aboard her and I think this will be his first ride at Caulfield – I will be cheering him home!
