WINNO'S WINNERS: DOOMBEN, DECEMBER 13, 2019

By Darren Winningham | Thursday, December 12, 2019

DOOMBEN RACES – FRIDAY 13 DECEMBER 2019

Doomben on FRIDAY – a twilight meeting with the track rated “SOFT” and the rail is 3.5 metre out the entire course … with hot weather forecast for the rest of the weekend and very hot conditions leading into Friday afternoon.

The meeting highlights the 2019 TAB “Origin” Jockeys Series with three races scheduled on Friday.

In addition are the Listed Calaway Stakes and Spirit of Boom Phelan Ready Stakes for the two-year old-runners – an action packed afternoon!

The last few meetings have seen leaders or runners on the pace being successful – I think with the rail out so far this weekend that pattern of racing will continue.

The Jockeys Series will continue Saturday at Eagle Farm!

NB: As this form assessment was made prior to race-day, please check final fields and track conditions for any changes on the day

Race 1

The first heat of the 2019 TAB “Origin” Jockeys Series opens the program over 2200 metres.

Joy’s Reward (7), trained by Louise White, has won her past two starts and is looking for a hat trick here. Kathy O’Hara (NSW) in the saddle looks a great chance!

Alam Mo Na (10) is a Kris Lees trained runner who was a short-priced favourite at Taree last start and won impressively – Jason Holder (South Australia) is aboard. She is the early market favourite and again looks well placed by the Lees Racing team.

Top Me Up Again (6) has been racing into form and is trained by Brian Smith – Craig Newitt (Tasmania). This could be a knockout chance.

Paris Crystal (9) may improve sharply here – keep your eye on this one at $25. Michael Rodd (NSW) is in the saddle.

7 – Joy’s Reward
10 – Alam Mo Na
6 – Top Me Up Again
9 – Paris Crystal
Rough chance - 2

Race 2

A maiden race here with many first starters – may pay to stand and watch this one!

David Vandyke has had some success in town in recent months – will it continue here with his debutant aptly named Weona Smartone (6) to be ridden by Ryan Maloney. He has been trialling well on his home track at the Sunshine Coast and could win this race.

A first starter trained by Kacy Fogden and to be ridden by Jason Holder is Happy Bibi (2). This runner has been trialling well too – take on trust.
The topweight Emma’s Jet (1), ridden by Robbie Fradd and trained by Matthew Dunn, has raced consistently at all three career starts and could find a place.

Byran and Daniel Guy train Ridershill (7) and will be partnered by his old apprentice Michael Rodd. Respect this one after a nice barrier trial win at the Gold Coast.

6 – Weona Smartone
2 – Happy Bibi
1 – Emma’s Jet
7 – Ridershill
Rough chance – 8

Race 3

Another open maiden race here – keep your eye on the markets I would suggest go for any that are backed!

Another David Vandyke first starter Joy Too All (6) at some odds ($7) may be forward enough to upset the opposition here. With X-mas nearly upon us – maybe it is a topical tip!

The early favourite is Lady Brahmos (2) from the Munce Racing stables – her last start second at Doomben suggests she will be difficult to beat here with Justin Huxtable to ride.

Cabochin Lil (1) from Stuart Kendrick’s yards could well be a rough chance here. Stephanie Thornton is aboard and this runner has some solid form around it.

6 – Joy To All
2 – Lady Brahmos
1 – Cabochin Lil
5 – Flatter
Rough Chance 13

Race 4

The second race in the 2019 TAB “Origin” Jockeys Series.

Two runners come out of the recent Listed Mode Plate back to a Class 1 race – Euro Belle (10) and Ingear (11). They both performed well in those runs and should be seriously considered seriously.

Euro Belle is trained by Gillian Heinrich and will be ridden by Dwayne Dunn (South Australia). Ingear (11) is a Gollan Racing runner and will be accompanied by Michael Dee (New Zealand).

Mulwala Canal (5), who looks well placed here after a solid run at the Gold Coast, will be ridden by Luke Nolen (Victoria).

10 – Euro Belle
5 – Mulwala Canal
11 - Ingear
3 – Bucephalus
Rough chances 4 & 7

Race 5 Phelan Ready Plate (Listed)

This is one of our feature races – this one is for the boys! For a feature race it is only a small field.

The Ciaron Maher and David Eustace visitor from Melbourne comes off some very solid runs down there. Clearly on the road to Magic Millions Rathlin (2) will be difficult to beat.

Chris Munce trains Kavak (1) who was very good on debut at Eagle Farm and won impressively. He then had a run at the Gold Coast and was beaten by a nice one. Maybe he will strip better here and be right in the race.

Peter & Paul Snowden have War Memorial (5) on debut here. Larry Cassidy will ride. If there is any money for this one it may pay to follow it!

2 – Rathlin
1 – Kavak
5 – War Memorial
3 – Count The Coin

Race 6 Calaway Girl Stakes (Listed)

This is race is for the two-year-old girls.

There are a couple of first starters here that have some valid chances to win.

I like the Tom Button trained Miss Lot Won (1) who has had a couple of starts and last start finished a solid second to the undefeated Dusty Tycoon. Brad Stewart gets aboard this start and, with some solid exposed form and drawn barrier 4, I like the $8 on offer each way.

Away Game (4) is another Maher & Eustace runner second up here. There has been some solid support for this runner since the markets opened.

Tony Gollan trains The Actuary (11) who makes her debit here after an impressive win at the trials. Jim Byrne rode the daughter of Sebring in that trial, who sold for $450,000 at the Magic Millions sales – the owners will be looking to get some of that investment back this weekend and some black type next to her name.

1 – Miss Lot Won
4 – Away Game
11- The Actuary
10 – Smart N Sexy
Rough chance 9

Race 7

The third leg of the 2019 TAB “Origin” Jockeys Series that will continue on Saturday at Eagle Farm.

I am tipping Majestic Ivy (6) despite the wide barrier draw. I saw this Donald “Ducky” Baker mare win impressively at Kilcoy on debut and she has since won just as well at the Sunshine Coast. I may be wrong but I think she has some serious talent – she does have a terrible barrier to contend with – barrier 18. Jockey is Craig Newitt (Tasmania).

Mandela (9) is the short-priced favourite and to be honest looks well placed in this grade by the Snowden Racing Team from Sydney. He has raced against some quality opposition and his barrier trials recently have been good enough to suggest he may perform well here. PLUS …. NSW have the ace ride on him with Michael Rodd!

Lubuk (8) is trained at the Gold Coast by Chris Waller and his win in a maiden race last start was solid. Michael Dee (New Zealand) rides this one.

A nice priced roughie is Sparkling Facet (7) trained on the Gold Coast by Trent and Toby Edmonds – she has won her past two starts and is looking for a hat trick.

6 – Majestic Ivy
9 – Mandela
8 – Lubuk
7 – Sparkling Facet
Rough chance 15
