WINNO'S WINNERS: EAGLE FARM, 28 DECEMBER 2019
By Darren Winningham | Friday, December 27, 2019
EAGLE FARM RACES – SATURDAY 28 DECEMBER 2019 Eagle Farm this weekend with the track rated “GOOD” with the rail out 4 metres for the entire course.
Seems like Santa was seen landing at Doomben racecourse on Tuesday night as a storm hit Brisbane – thankfully he got back in the sky soon after and was out delivering Xmas cheer for everyone!
The weather looks hot for the rest of the week in Brisbane but they are forecasting storms late afternoon – standard for this time of the year in Brisbane.
Looks a tough meeting so will try and be brief this week.
Race 1
A tough way to start the day. Barry Lockwood trains Naked (2) and I think the 1800 metres will suit him this weekend.
Selections:
2 – Naked 6 – Slow Hands 7 – Enterprise Moss 8 – Mufasta Rough chance 11 Race 2
The promising Ziemba (11) steps out again this weekend. He is trained by Rob Heathcote and looks like a nice type with plenty of upside. I like him after his dominant win here a fortnight with Michael Rodd in the saddle. This weekend Robbie Fradd gets the ride. Selections:
11 – Ziemba 7 – Maslow 14 – Great Powers 12 – Red Doulton Rough chance 15 Race 3
Jami Lady (9) looks well placed here by the Steven O’Dea team. She goes well second up and I think she will be right in this after winning nicely when resuming. Boomtown Lass (11) had some issues in running last start. I think we will see a better effort this weekend. Glen Boss rides.
The Odyssey (10) was vetted after his last run which was solid enough. The vet diagnosed him with heat stress. Again, second up from a small 6 weeks break here, he may race well. Selections:
9 – Jami Lady 11 – Boomtown Lass 10 – The Odyssey 2 – Divine Dice Rough chance 4 Race 4
The distance race – these are always tough!
Sir Barnabus (9) backs up this weekend after a striking effort last weekend. He is up in grade but his win last weekend was impressive on a track where he enjoys racing. Jackson “McLovin” Murphy stays aboard.
I think the NSW visitor Morton’s Fork (3) looks like he is the one to be on. His final 600 metres at Randwick last start was super and if he exhibits that sprint finish here this weekend, he will take some beating.
The Candy Man (1) is the early favourite and has done nothing wrong. I am just worried about the large weight this weekend. Selections:
3 – Morton’s Fork 9 – Sir Barnabus 1 – The Candy Man 6 – Zofonic Dancer Rough chance 2 Race 5 Group 3 Vo Rogue Plate
Our feature race – top class field as well.
I like the local runner Alligator Blood (1) to continue his winning ways for trainer David Vandyke. He will be a short-priced favourite but looks the winner with the set weights of this race.
Diamond Thunder (2), trained in Sydney by Mark Newnham, was impressive here over the Winter Carnival and comes back to Queensland after two great wins from a spell. Josh Parr will continue his solid association with this gelding.
Selections:
1 – Alligator Blood 2 – Diamond Thunder 9 – Jeweliana 4 – Profit Race 6 Group 3 BJ McLachlan Stakes The two-year-old feature race on the program.
I think the southern invaders look like they have a mortgage on the race.
Chris Waller trains Blondeau (4) who debuted as a short-priced favourite and was beaten. I expect that he will strip fitter for the run and the big race jockey Glen Boss is aboard.
Every Rose (8) is a Mark Newnham runner who ran a solid race in the Magic Millions race at Wyong. This race is normally a good guide for Magic Millions in January. Josh Parr rides.
The one that I would keep a good eye on is the Mick & Michael Kent trained Euphoric Summer (7) who won at Ballarat last start. She has had a month between runs and she gets a look at 1200 metres for the first time. Melbourne based Damien Oliver is making the trip to ride her – that may be a strong lead for her chances!
Selections:
4 – Blondeau 8 – Every Rose 7 – Euphoric Summer 5 – King’s Legacy Rough chance 9 Race 7 Listed Bernborough Handicap
Nice race here over a mile.
I like the local runner Looks Like Elvis (3) to storm home out wide here and claim victory. He raced over 1300 metres last start and was only warming up when hitting the line strongly. There is some speed in the race which should suit him well and gives Brad Stewart every chance to come wide and claim victory.
Chris Waller has sent Sambro (2) north after a good third in the Villiers at Randwick a fortnight ago. He will like this track and should race generously.
Niccanova (1) is trained by Steven Tregea and Jimmy Orman is aboard again this weekend. This runner loves the mile and will be hard to toss in this race.
Selections:
3 – Looks Like Elvis 1 – Niccanova 2 – Sambro 10 – Reckless Choice Rough chance 7 Race 8 The Buffering A nice sprint race here named after a legend, the Queensland sprinter – BUFFERING!
I think we should forgive the effort of two runners here last start – Miss Fabulass (2) and Tyzone (4). They both had no luck last start and I expect them to shine here!
Miss Fabulass (2) has the addition of a tongue tie this weekend and Glen Boss has been booked for the ride by the Kris Lees Racing stable. She was slowly away at the start and if she jumps well this weekend, I expect her to be flashing home late.
Tyzone (2) was caught wide last start and still finished off the race strongly. I see that Edmonds Racing has booked Noel “King” Callow to ride him. He is a very strong rider and I expect him to be able to get the best out of this runner.
Deep Image (6) – what can you say! The two Robbie’s seem to have found the key to this runner! That is trainer Robert Heathcote and jockey Robbie Fradd. He has been sensational here in his recent wins at Eagle Farm. He loves to lead and loves to test the opposition. This weekend he meets a few of his opposition a little worse at the weights. Will this be a steadying influence this weekend?
Selections:
4 – Miss Fabulass 2 – Tyzone 6 – Deep Image 1 – I’m A Rippa Rough chances 3 & 11 Race 9 The Listed Nudgee
The last race of the year at Eagle Farm – well actually the last of the decade!
There are many early scratchings – the field has been decimated. The set weights here is another key to the race.
Misteed (13) trained by Snowden Racing get her chance to post some black type here. She is third up and I expect her to be at her peak this weekend.
Godolphin / James Cummings has Multaja (3) engaged. She has been racing in Group 2 and Listed races her past two starts and she is back against her own sex this weekend. She will be difficult to beat.
Epic Girl (9) posted an epic win last weekend – leading all the way and dominating. This is the best way to ride her and when nothing takes her on she is unstoppable!
Some rough chances include Spirit’s Choice (10) who will be better suited by 1400 metres and the Gollan Racing up and comer Sugar Boom (18) who will race handy and has been working well through her grades. She has Stephanie Thornton aboard again and I expect her to race handy and, if she can handle the rise in class, be prominent in the finish. Selections: 13 – Misteed 3 – Multaja 18 – Sugar Boom 10 – Spirit’s Choice Rough chances 9 & 16
