WINNO'S WINNERS: EAGLE FARM, 21 MARCH 2020

EAGLE FARM RACES – SATURDAY 21 MARCH 2020
Eagle Farm races this weekend with the track rated “GOOD” I think the track will be eeeeeeeeeerie this weekend with no crowd and just the bare essential staff and racing participants present.
Let’s hope this is not a long term restriction with the Brisbane Winter Carnival on the horizon it probably would mean that we may not see the best horses come here from the south as owners may be reluctant to send them north and not be able to attend the track and share the excitement when they race. Then again, the excellent prizemoney on offer may still lure them here!
Time to look at the program this weekend.
Race 1
A small field here with the Matthew Dunn Racing runner Malawi Gold (6) looking a nice chance to win with apprentice Stephanie Thornton in the saddle. I must make special mention of apprentice Nathan Fazackerley who rides Lets Party Marty (3) for Angela Plumb. I think this is his first Saturday metropolitan ride and he is aboard a live chance this weekend. I am certain if he lands a winner he will be partying well into the night on Saturday!
Selections:
6 – Malawi Gold 4 – Metamorphic 3 – Lets Party Marty 5 – La Jument
Race 2
The top two meet in the card again here this weekend and I think the race is between them. Last start there was a points decision to the Steven O’Dea Racing – Tumbler Ridge (1) ridden by Boris Thornton but Bellissimi Amici (2) looks well placed this weekend by Robert Heathcote team over 1400 metres.
I think this distance is ideal this weekend for his filly and she had the added addition of apprentice Adin Thompson who will claim a valuable 3 kilograms off her weight. That means she meets Tumbler Ridge (1) around 4.5 kilograms better this weekend for a half-length defeat last start.
Selections:
2 – Bellissimi Amici 1 – Tumbler Ridge 7 – Ursula 3 – Cosmic Gossip Race 3
Michael Nolan Racing is on a high after winning the 2-year-old edition of the JEWEL on the Gold Coast last weekend with Kisukano. There were some wonderful scenes in the crowd and amongst the owners were strappers Nick Hahn and Greer Beck. It was an exciting win!
They are represented here this weekend with Ruby Guru who gets her chance to get back in the winner’s stalls with apprentice Nick Keal in the saddle. His 3-kilogram claim and his strong riding style will suit her.
Selections:
1 – Ruby Guru 2– Breakdance 10 – Grand Shanghai 8 - Brocson Race 4
Winning Shot (9) is, as her name suggests, a definite winning shot here! She is trained by Stuart Kendrick and will be ridden by Ryan Maloney. She is second up and will be suited by the dry track here.
Stellar Power (3), trained by Bryan Dais, will be ridden by Nick Keal who has won previously on him. This runner is third up here and he has an impressive record at each third up start. He will appreciate the Eagle Farm circuit as he can race handy or take a sit. He is drawn well and I think he represents wonderful each way value at around $12.
Selections:
9 – Winning Shot 3 – Stellar Power 12 – Cailini 8 – I Am Venus Race 5
Another solid field. Looks like a battle of the apprentices!
Heathcote Racing has Femme Fireball (7) coming off a solid win last start at Doomben but she does not have an impressive record here at Eagle Farm and that is my only concern. She will be partnered by Adin Thompson and gets in well with his claim.
Baylee Nothdurft and Tony Gollan combine with Get Stuck In (5). He is second up, and his first up effort was solid and will strip fitter for that run.
Trevelyan (4) produced an awful run last start – not sure what went wrong - but he has 7 weeks between runs and Stephanie Thornton has been booked. He will probably win – but I just want to see him run well again before jumping on the band wagon.
Selections:
7 – Femme Fireball 5 – Get Stuck In 4 – Trevelyan 6 – Salsonic Race 6
The first leg of the Quaddie.
I like Leadership Spill (8) who is trained by Gollan Racing and is third up here and drops back to 1000 metres. I think that he looks well in on the minimum – Steph Thornton to ride.
Oriental Girl (5) is trained by the “bald twins” – Toby & Trent Edmonds Racing. She has been transferred to them from Cairns where she has an impressive record and has run some solid times up there. The other interesting thing is that Michael “Muppy” Hellyer has been booked to ride her – he doesn’t ride many of the stable’s horses in town on the weekend but has a very solid relationship with them at regional and the Gold Coast track.
Go Deep (2) led all the way here last start with Brad Stewart in the saddle. They combine here again and will be hard to toss again.
Selections: 8 – Leadership Spill 5 – Oriental Girl 2 – Go Deep 4 – Xanthus Rough chance – (11) The Move Race 7
Chris Anderson has Profit (1) engaged here. I think he may be a wallet burner this weekend. I think he will be beaten again, and punters may be beaten. He is a good quality runner – just not sure is he has come back this preparation. I am happy to be proven wrong come Saturday!
Star Of Michelin (2), trained by Stuart Kendrick, is third up over the mile this weekend – he gets conditions to suit and I think he looks well placed and should prove difficult to beat.
Selections:
2 – Star Of Michelin 3 – Dee Day Diva 1 – Profit 8 – Red Bloom Race 8
A tough race.
Akage (3) I think was disadvantaged last weekend at the Gold Coast by the wet track. If you forgive him that run, he looks well placed this week. He will be suited by the 1845 metres of this race and is an enormous price of $15.
Plitvice (2) has been very solid this preparation. Adin Thompson keeps the ride on him again. Stepping up in distance from his last start victory over the mile should not be any drama.
Slow Hands (8), who just cannot seem to get first past the post, having being beaten in his past two starts in a photo, deserves a change of luck. Selections:
3 – Akage 2 – Plitvice 8 – Slow Hands 7 – Galtero Rough chances – (5) Kings Full – (6) Benfica Princess Race 9
I like a roughie first up here for Natalie McCall Racing – Valario (9) at around $25.
He was very good last preparation and I think meets an inferior field compared to what he was racing against last preparation. He is undefeated first up in three preparations. I think that if he is forward enough he will be very hard to knock off here.
Macewen (2) has been smashed in the betting firming from $10 into $6 for Gollan Racing. Where there is smoke there is usually fire!
Chris Anderson has two live chances with Epic Girl (10) and Boomtown Lass (11). Both must be respected. Don’t overlook the Edmonds Racing runner Tardis (15) who was an emergency and has already made the field with early scratchings. She is second up here after a very commendable effort a fortnight ago. Drawn well she could throw a spanner in the works in this last race!
Selections:
9 – Valario 2 – Macewen 10 – Epic Girl 11 – Boomtown Lass Rough chances – (15) Tardis

Looks like a solid battle between the apprentices this weekend! They look like they can dominate the program. I am talking about Baylee Nothdurft who is riding in wonderful form, Stephanie Thornton and Adin Thompson. I am putting the WINNO kiss of death on Stephanie Thornton to get a victory this weekend!
