SUNSHINE COAST RACES – SATURDAY 25 APRIL 2020 (ANZAC DAY)
Sunshine Coast races this weekend with the track rated “SOFT.” The rail is 2 metres out for the entire course. The weather looks promising with warm conditions forecast – there may be a track upgrade across the program.
It is ANZAC day – a day where we remember and salute our heroes past and present who have served and died in wars, conflicts and peacekeeping operations.
Our country was built on the service of the brave men and women who fought in World War 1. Today, as we reflect on their sacrifice, ANZAC day has become more important to our families and the general public. It must be remembered that many people both directly and indirectly have made sacrifices for this wonderful country. Despite the COVID-19 restrictions we should ensure that we take time out on Saturday to reflect on this and ensure that we continue this national day of recognition.
Ross Stevenson – AKA the Brisbane Bugler will be at the entry to the Eagle Farm racecourse around 6am on Saturday playing his trumpet to honour the day. If you are in the vicinity, I would suggest you get along and take part in his efforts to acknowledge ANZAC day 2020.
Back to the racing … I am not a huge fan of the program this week at the Sunshine Coast – so I will keep it brief and straight to the point with my selections.
I would have been in Hong Kong this weekend for the FWD Champions Day of racing on Sunday with the Hong Kong Jockey Club – but alas COVID-19 and the travel restrictions have prevented this. But don’t despair HRO will have a preview of the final Group 1 races in Hong Kong on Sunday!
Time to look at the program this weekend. ________________________________________________________________________
Race 1
Selections:
9 – Step Aside 16 – Rozeira 11 – Youngblood 6 – Flash Patch Rough chance – (15) Qiji Bellezza
Race 2
Selections:
5 – Chesto’s Dream 9 – Palladas 11 – Better Get Set 17 – Wave Maker
Rough chance – (2) Batangas Entry
Race 3
Selections:
7 – Isotope 1 – Gotta Kiss 3 – Thunder Mania 4 – Zingalong Rough chance – (2) Kavak
Race 4
Selections:
3 – Populist 4 – Cabochon Lil 1 – Galtero 8 – Tactical Manuever
Race 5
I think Profit (13) may get back in the winner’s stalls this weekend for Chris Anderson and jockey Jimmy Orman. Hopefully punters will see some “profit” in their accounts after this race!
Selections:
13 – Profit 9 – Great Powers 7 – A Man to Match 6 – Tokoriki Lad Rough chance – (14) Speaking Bad
Race 6
Look for the Chris Munce less fancied runner Smart Meteor (4) to cause and upset here. He has the services of NSW born and bred (that is just for you Will Allam) rider Ryan Wiggins. This gelding needs a rider who will get his mind on the job – I think Wiggo is the perfect addition this weekend!
Selections:
4 – Smart Meteor 13 – Miss Penfold 7 – Wapito 3 – Ballistic Boy Rough chance – (2) Stampe
Race 7
Must make some comment here – Baccarat Baby (4) and Michael Hellyer was superb first up whennarrowly defeated. She is back on her home track and is undefeated here in 4 starts. Trained by David Vandyke, she looks a great chance in this race!
Selections:
4 – Baccarat Baby 5 – Kubis 8 – Macewen 3 – Silvera Rough chance – (2) Order Again
Race 8
The Robert Heathcote trained Fasano (10) looks a solid chance here - wo consecutive wins and looking for a hat trick. I see that Jake Bayliss has been booked to ride – he will ensure this gelding gets first past the post!
Respect must be shown for the talented Steven O’Dea trained Jeweliana (16) who has drawn well and does have a solid record at this track – Baylee Nothdurft to ride.
Selections:
10 – Fasano 16 – Jeweliana 8 – Red Chase 23 – Don’t Waiver Rough chance – (11) Pressway
Race 9
Tony Gollan may get a win here in the last race and not with his more favoured runner Vega One (1) - athough you all know I have a massive soft spot for this horse! I think that he will need two runs this preparation – but load up when he gets over 1400 metres!
The stable mate is Just Orm (7) and he will be ridden by Stephanie Thornton here. He resumes from a 63-day spell and recently was awesome winning a barrier trial at Doomben. He has a great record at this track as well with three solid wins. At around $8 he looks a great each way chance to finish off the day! Selections:
7 – Just Orm 11 – Defence Missile 4 – Mishani Hustler 3 – Tambo’s Mate Rough chances – (1) Vega One and (2) Guard of Honour

Jockey’s Challenge
Looks like a solid battle between Baylee Nothdurft, Stephanie Thornton and Jake Bayliss. I think Baylee may just get home – but Jake Bayliss could cause an upset.

WINNO V FLEMO
WINNO smashed FLEMO in our tipping competition last week. This weekend he is back on his home turf – that means he has a distinct advantage – OR DOES HE?? Be sure to check the up to date and amended tips each Saturday morning on Facebook after any track changes and final scratchings!
