EF OCT 10 - ADEBISI’S EYE-CATCHING SUCCESS
By Matthew Grimson and Graham Potter | Monday, October 12, 2009
Eagle Farm, October 10, 2009. QTIS 600 Plate (2yo Colts & Geldings) - 1000m. Time: 0-58.22 Track - Good 3. Rail - out 1m. 1 Adebisi; 2 Mundi Gully; 3 Starlin.
The Desleigh Foster trained Adebisi scored in impressive fashion in the first two-year-old Metropolitan race of the season for colts and geldings.
There was plenty to like about the way Adebisi mustered gate speed to immediately spear across and claim second spot early, hard on the heels of the flying Little Zachary. These two runners had pulled the field into the home turn and jockey Scott Seamer wasted little time in pushing Adebisi up alongside the leader on straightening.
Little Zachary was brave but outgunned by his far bigger rival and Adebisi breezed on by to take up the running early in the straight. From that moment the result was never in doubt as Adebisi always had matters under control and he maintained his winning advantage without any undue effort to secure an eye-catching victory success. WINNER FEEDBACK: Desleigh Foster: “I worked him on Monday morning, and he’s always been special. I always liked him from day one. On Monday morning I worked him with one who I’ve got a wrap on and I thought we will see how good he really is ... and he just put paid to her in two strides.
“At the moment he will probably go to the paddock. I don’t know what I will do with him yet. I will speak to (owner) Dougie (Forbes) and we will discuss it. I am pretty sure he will go to the paddock now.
“I don’t know how good he is. He is very green. He sort of ... he only does what you make him do. He is a professional. He just jumps ... he puts himself there. Like I said, he has come a long way in a short time. He is pretty good. He’s big and he has the looks to go with it. We’ll discuss what we are going to do, but he’ll probably get cut and go to the paddock. He’s pretty big and burly.
“I am not sure if Dougie has paid up for the Magic Millions. We are in no hurry. We’ll let everything cool down and then we’ll discuss what we are going to do with him. I went to the sale ... picked him out ... liked him. I had no-one to buy him. I just went there ... bought him, and I was lucky enough when I said to Dougie that I like this horse he said, yeah, and they came in. They are a nice bunch of owners.
“Brian Wakefield trained the mother (Hell For Leather).” Hell For Leather won up to 1400m. She was a six time winner (with five placed finishes) from twenty-one starts.
Jockey Scott Seamer: “The horse go very well. He jumps well ... he travelled well. He was a little bit lost when he was left in front on straightening. But one around his backside and he soon woke up about what he was supposed to do. He set a good time for a baby (58.22 seconds) and if he knew what he was doing next start he could go even quicker. He went well.
“He’s a lovely type of a horse. When I got on him I went, geez he’s a nice horse. But yeah, the way he races he is going to win more races. We didn’t expect him to win that easy. Desleigh said the horse could gallop, but, you know, they are two-year-olds ... they can do anything on race day. What they do in the trails and that can be a little bit misjudged until they have to do it race day, But now he has done it race day, he’ll just improve on that. He’s a lovely style of horse and each time he goes around he is just going to get better.”
PRICE FLUCTUATIONS: Winner (Adebisi): 11.00 in to 6.50. Favourite (Hidden Run): 3.40 out to 3.60. Finished fourth.
STEWARDS REPORT EXTRACT: Mundi Gully (D. Whitmore) jumped out at the start taking Mr Irresistible (A. Spinks) out onto Starburst (A. Best). Pinnacle Ridge (L. Cassidy) jumped awkwardly.
Leaving the 700m Devinardi (J. Taylor) shifted in, despite the efforts of its rider, taking Starburst in onto Mr Irrisistible, resulting in Starburst and Mr Irrisistible making very heavy contact. Brodenbri (R. McMahon) raced wide throughout.
Stewards sought an explanation from L. Cassidy in regards to the disappointing performance of Pinnacle Ridge. L. Cassidy stated that the horse began well and travelled strongly in the early stages however, passing the 600m the horse was under pressure and failed to respond to his riding. Trainer R. Heathcote advised he was at a loss to explain the horse's run today as it had pleased in its preparation for the race. A post race veterinary examination of Pinnacle Ridge failed to reveal any abnormalities.
