WINNO'S WINNERS: GOLD COAST, SEPTEMBER 19, 2020
By Darren Winningham | Friday, September 18, 2020
This weekend we head down the Pacific Highway to the GOLD COAST racetrack where the track is rated “SOFT” and that rating may get worse as there is rain forecast for Friday and Saturday. The rail is out 0.5 metres from the 1400 metres to the 400 metres and true for the rest of the entire circuit.
Remember, it is PINK RIBBON CUP DAY at the Gold Coast track – so if you are coming make sure you wear something PINK!
NB: As these selections were made prior to race-day please check for any changes to track conditions and for any scratchings on the day
Race 1
A small field over 1200 metres to start the day.
I am going for the Les Ross trained Mishani Miss (1) to be ridden again by the stable apprentice Sheriden Tomlinson. Tomlinson rode the filly to victory last start at Doomben to give him his first metro Saturday winner – will she give him his second here at the Gold Coast?
Tony Gollan trains Aventurine (4) who resumed here at prohibitive odds and won easily. She may take the lead and she and Ben Thompson, who has struck form this week, will be hard to keep out. She is stepping up sharply in distance from 900 metres to 1200 metres – that is my only concern here.
Keep your eye on Salbris (7) who could be a blow out chance at big odds – Tegan Harrison to ride.
Selections:
1 – Mishani Miss 4 – Aventurine 7 – Salbris 5 – Better Than Best
Race 2
The race has been decimated by scratchings.
Stoked (8) won here last start in nice fashion a fortnight ago. Tegan Harrison is aboard this weekend for local trainer Michael Costa – some decent odds on offer as well here at $11, so great value each way for mine.
Tony Gollan trains Still Invincible (6) and Baylee Nothdurft is aboard. He rode this runner here a fortnight ago. Last start they put a tongue tie and there was a dramatic form reversal. He carries the gear again here this weekend. There is $6 on offer as well – so looks a great chance.
Lubuk (3), trained on the track by Chris Waller Racing, has Luke Dittman is up. With the speed in the race, I am looking for this runner to be storming home late – again some good odds on offer with $14 in some markets.
The favourite is Express Fantasy (10) trained on the Sunshine Coast by David Vandyke. There has been some serious support for this runner firming from $3.10 into $2.60. She was sent out a $1.28 favourite last start at a midweek meeting and was rolled. I cannot see the runner finishing in the first three – that is just me! There is some value in this race if this runner misses a place.
Selections:
8 – Stoked 6 – Still Invincible 3 – Lubuk 10 – Express Fantasy
Race 3
The small fields continue here.
The Gollan Racing runner Run For Glory (6) will be ridden by Georgina Cartwright making her debut in Queensland for the stable. Looks like it could be a winning debut! Run For Glory is in tremendous form winning his past four starts and is looking for his fifth win this weekend in a race that lacks any depth.
Aqua Vite (2), trained here by Scott Morrisey, won last start with an all the way win at Doomben. Justin Huxtable stays on here and, to be honest, if they leave him alone in front he could be difficult to run down.
The problem this weekend for Aqua Vite (2) is that there looks like a couple of runners who will want to race keen or near the lead. That may play right into Run For Glory (6) hands and enhance his prospects as he will sit in behind the speed before peeling off their backs and getting home! (well I hope so).
Selections:
6 – Run For Glory 2 – Aqua Vite 4 – Bargannon 3 – Prioritise
Race 4
Only ten runners here.
Shooting For Gold (5) is a Steven O’Dea Racing runner who was solid last start racing home strongly late over 1050 metres. Apprentice Justin Huxtable keeps the ride and his claim will come in handy this week. He has had a second here previously at the track, so I think he is very well placed by the stable this weekend.
Mishani Fraudster is another nice chance for the Les Ross/Sheriden Tomlinson combination. Tomlinson’s three-kilogram claim will be sought after as he becomes a part of the weekend furniture in metro meetings on a Saturday. This runner chased home Kisukano (see race 7) and has drawn well in barrier 3. Look for young “Shez” to sit in behind the speedster in the race, Midland (8,) and then get around him entering the straight and set sail for the line.
Mass Destruction (7) is another solid chance for Tony Gollan. This Spirit of Boom gelding is first up this weekend and he did put in a solid effort in a barrier trial just a fortnight ago. Could he cause an upset here? Ryan Maloney takes the ride for the stable.
Dale Smith rides Highland Son (2) who is lightly raced and is some chance.
Selections:
5 – Shooting For Gold 1 – Mishani Fraudster 7 – Mass Destruction 2 – Highland Son
Race 5
This is one of THOSE distance races! YAWN!!!
Joymaker (5) has been in career best form this preparation winning his past two starts for trainer Kelly Schweida. Jim Byrne is in Sydney with Rothfire, and is probably enjoying the crisp wonderful NSW air, so this weekend this runner will have Ryan Maloney aboard. A hat trick of wins for a stayer – can mission impossible be achieved here this weekend?
Lady Solerno (7), trained by Ronald Cameron has won three times here at the track. In fact, she won two in a row here over the 2200 metres before heading to town last start and running a gallant second. Sheriden Tomlinson is aboard – his claim is a massive plus for this runner – AND he rode her to victory three starts ago!
Stardome (2) is a Waller Racing runner with Luke Dittman aboard. This runner comes back from a small stint in Sydney. Before that, his runs in Queensland were solid with a win and a second. The weight is the only issue for me – but Luke Dittman could be the new “King of the Gold Coast” for the upcoming season. He will be hungry for a win on his home track.
Ocean Addict is an Edmonds Racing runner – keep him safe here.
Selections:
5 – Joymaker 7 – Lady Solerno 2 – Stardome 4 – Ocean Addict
Race 6
The first leg of the Quaddie is over 1200 metres and it is a No Metro Win race – can be hard to find a winner in these races!
The Move (11) is a Gollan Racing runner and another great ride for the new kid on the block – Georgina Cartwright.
Dream Master (2) is trained on the track by Toby & Trent Edmonds and is third up. I think that he is the logical danger to the short-priced favourite and this stable does have a very good strike rate for their runners on their home track – must respect this runner at the great odds of $12. Michael Cahill to ride.
Beaufort Park (6) is trained here by Les Kelly and Travis Wolfgram rides him again after a win here three weeks ago. This runner is third up and loves his runs spaced. A winner at the track is normally good form at these meetings on the Gold Coast.
Paul Butterworth trains French Ocean (15) with Matthew McGillivray to ride. This runner is $51 in the markets. His past two efforts have been over 1100 metres and both times he has stormed home late. Stepping up to 1200 metres, and with a senior jockey aboard this weekend, I expect a bold showing at massive odds! It is the type of race where a runner at big odds could blow many punters out of Quaddie early.
Selections:
11 – The Move 2 – Dream Master 6 – Beaufort Park 7 – Fuji Flyer Rough chance – (15) French Ocean
Race 7
The feature race on the program the SKY RACING PINK RIBBON CUP.
The field just keeps getting smaller with scratchings.
How can you go past the Michael Nolan sensation Kisukano (13) who has won her past two starts at Eagle Farm. She gets in well at the weights and is taking the older horses on. She looks well placed here and she has won at the track – who can ever forget that effort in the Two Year Old JEWEL back in March this year when she brought to an end Rothfire’s winning streak! She looks the one to beat!
Now to determine who will run the quinella and exacta. Maddi Rocks (6) is a Chris Waller Racing runner who has been dynamic winning her past two starts. She is up in grade but deserves a crack at this race as her last start win was incredibly good – another nice ride for Luke Dittman.
Edmonds Racing has She Za Boss (10) fronting up after a five-week break. Interestingly enough, when she won last start at Eagle Farm she had just come off a five week break as well – can history repeat itself here? Robbie Fradd remains in the saddle.
Epic Girl (2) is probably the topical tip for the race. Tegan Harrison aboard – can the GIRLS DO IT? This Chris Anderson runner went down in a blanket finish last start at Doomben. This weekend she has the addition of the blinkers and sometimes this gear change can change the fortune of a runner - $21 each way all day for mine!
Selections:
13 – Kisukano 6 – Maddi Rocks 10 – She Za Boss 2 – Epic Girl
Race 8
A sprint race here over 900 metres – these are always a spectacle at the Gold Coast.
Let me just start by acknowledging all the private messages from the haters last weekend when I boldly said that Alligator Blood could not win with the big weight. I was right – The Odyssey was too fast with no weight and claimed the prize. Unlike the people who had plenty to say about my statement in my tips and took the time to message me I will not be messaging you back! Just a simple - TOLD YA SO will suffice!
So, let us talk about Zoustyle (3) this weekend. He is a class runner and he did towel them up fairly good in a recent barrier trial in good time. I am just not too sure about him winning at the Gold Coast first up over 900 metres. He has drawn well – has Brad Stewart aboard – but I think he may need it longer so here we go again this week – roll out the abuse! I am going to say he cannot win! (Okay – get the face washer ready for the egg on my face).
Spurcraft (4) resumes here and usually races keenly fresh on the speed – will he take the speedy Zoustyle (3) on in the running?
I like the Edmonds Racing runner Usmanov (5), drawn barrier 10 and Baylee Nothdurft in the saddle. This runner has three wins and a second here over this distance. I think he will just sit off the speed and then come home late. He was given an easy time in a barrier trial here three weeks ago over 1000 metres. He is a track and distance specialist – I am gambling on this one at his home track.
If you prescribe to the theory of home track specialist, then you must also give the Les Kelly trained Freddie Fox Trot (2) a chance as well. Justin Huxtable rides this one – his claim gets him in well. He hasn’t won over the 900 metres, but if they go crazy in front this runner will be coming at them late!
Archer’s Paradox (7) won easy when leading last start at Doomben. On that occasion he was heavily supported late in the markets and Corey Bayliss rode him to perfection and he got the chocolates – another on pace runner who gets in well at the weights.
Selections:
5 – Usmanov 3 – Zoustyle 7 – Archer’s Paradox 2 – Freddie Foxtrot
Race 9
The last race of the day over 1800 metres. A tough way to end a good day’s racing.
It is Prospectus (14) versus Getyourgreyon (6) like it was a fortnight ago at Doomben. On that occasion Getyourgreyon (6) and Jag Guthmann-Chester stole the race with a mid-race move that paid off. I like both runners and it is difficult to split them – but I just think with the larger field this weekend Prospectus (14) can turn the tables and win the race. The extra 200 metres looks ideal as well – stepping up from the mile last start where he was finishing the race off strongly. Get it home Luke Dittman!
Getyourgreyon (6) was impressive last start - when he was ridden forward which is not really his go – but his class shone through and he held on in a solid performance. Michael Costa trains this runner on the track.
Slow Hands (2) from the Kelly Schweida stables may show up here.
Bajan Gold (10) won here last start over the distance. He goes up in class but down in the weights. He has drawn well in barrier 3 and will push forward from that barrier – Andrew Mallyon rides.
Selections:
14 – Prospectus 6 – Getyourgreyon 2– Slow Hands 10 – Bajan Gold Rough chance – (5) Polemic ____________________________________________________________________
Jockey’s Challenge
I think it is an open affair this weekend – I am going for Luke Dittman on his home track. A big watch on Justin Huxtable, Ryan Maloney and Baylee Nothdurft who have some solid rides as well.

WINNO V FLEMO
WINNO beat FLEMO last weekend in our tipping competition – it was another close battle – we managed to tip another 5 winners a solid effort! I managed to come home late by tipping the last three winners on the program. Be sure to check the up to date and amended tips each Saturday morning on Facebook after any track changes and scratchings where I will post our selections and any late mail!
