SCST OCT 11 - WIN NUMBER TEN FOR IN REHEARSAL
By Graham Potter | Tuesday, October 13, 2009
Sunshine Coast, October 11, 2009. Track - Good 3. Rail - out 6m. Open Handicap - 1600m. Time: 1-37.09. 1 In Rehearsal; 2 Riseupsinging; 3 Millers Wheel.
In Rehearsal had been running against the likes of Secrets Untold and Southerly Impact in town. It looked like he would only have to hold that form to have an excellent winning chance here, but it was last start winner Millers Wheel who enjoyed favouritism with In Rehearsal starting second favourite at odds of $4.00.
In Rehearsal went back to last early and apprentice jockey Scott Holcome was happy to hold that position until the field straightened for home. He had Riseupsinging just in front of him at that stage and these two runners made their move together.
Racing wide out on the track, Riseupsinging and In Rehearsal gradually took the measure of the group of runners packed along their inside and it was the latter who finished best of all to edge past Riseupsinging over the last 75m to claim the tenth win of his career.
WINNER FEEDBACK: Trainer Jason McLachlan: “Mate, I knew there wasn’t a lot of speed in the race. I just said, ride him cold. He’s been coming and riding work for me Scottie (Holcombe) and I wanted to give him a go and give him a decent ride. So, good on him. He’s a good kid. Yeah, they did get a bit tight in the final stages, but I don’t think we’ve got anything to worry about.”
Mandy Radecker, the rider of the second placed Riseupsinging, did have a look at the film. She decided to take no action and correct weight was declared.
Owner Lorraine McLachlan: “It is the first time a winner has been solely in my name (since husband Bruce McLachlan’s untimely passing). It is actually just a fantastic win and one that I will always remember. It was happy and it was sad.”
STEWARDS REPORT EXTRACT: Apprentice S. Holcombe, rider of In rehearsal was found guilty of a charge under AR137A(5)(a)(ii) in that he used his whip more than the permitted number of times between the 400m and 200m. S. Holcombe was fined $400.
A post-race veterinary examination of Grungle revealed the horse to be lame in the near hind leg. Trainer B. Hill was advised that he must provide a veterinary clearance for Grungle prior to its next race start.
