WINNO'S WINNERS: DOOMBEN, NOVEMBER 7, 2020
By Darren Winningham | Friday, November 6, 2020
This weekend we stay at Doomben with the track rated “SOFT” and the rail is out 0.5 metres for the entire circuit. The track has had a month of racing on it. Look for runners to be on pace and against the rail to have an advantage.
NB: As these selections were made prior to race-day please check for any changes to track conditions and for any scratchings on the day
Race 1
The two-year-old runners start off the day.
There are some bug wraps on the Gollan Racing runner – Canuck (3).
I like the exposed form of the Kevin Kemp runner – Alert and Ready (1). It is her turn to win – Andrew Mallyon is in the saddle.
Miss Hipstar (7), a first starter from the Kelly Schweida stables, has been smashed in the betting firming from $21 to $7 – keep safe with Larry Cassidy in the saddle.
Selections:
1 – Alert and Ready 3 – Canuck 4 – Invisible Tears 7 – Miss Hipstar Rough chance – (8) Vienna Express
Race 2
Again, the Gollan / Nothdurft are well positioned here with Isotope (1).
I have gone for some value with the Sears Racing runner – Be Water My Friend (2) to be partnered by Michael Cahill who resumes from a 21-week spell and if forward enough will test the favourite.
Selections:
2 – Be Water My Friend 1 – Isotope 5 – One Shy Ruby 6 – Joyful Miss
Race 3
A distance race over 2200 metres – it’s a lottery.
The Edmonds Racing runner. Fields of Yulong (8) has been super consistent but just cannot get past the post first – this looks his good opportunity to get into that winner’s stall. Robbie Fradd to ride.
If you like a roughie have a stab at the Chris Waller Racing runner I Could Do Better (4) to be ridden by Luke Dittman. He has his first start in Queensland after some solid efforts in Sydney - $15 on offer here.
Selections:
8 – Fields of Yulong 4 – I Could Do Better 2 – Takeittothelimit 3 – Toga Picta
Race 4
Tough race this one.
David Vandyke has a nice one in L’Cosmo (10). Stephanie Thornton rides it for him.
Selections:
10 – L’Cosmo 3 – Thine Is The Power 1 – Goodonya Sonya 2 – Moonshine Lady
Race 5
I think the Gollan Racing pair may battle this one out – you can find reasons to be on either one here.
Purroni (11), who will be ridden by Baylee Nothdurft, had a trial earlier in the week after a three week let up.
Nic Nat Nui (8) was caught wide last start and had no luck. This weekend he has drawn a great barrier so I expect him to trail the leaders and come home strongly.
Sacred Suite (9) has won his past two starts and is looking for his first Saturday win. Luke Dittman on another good chance.
Selections:
11 – Purroni 8 – Nic Nat Nui 9 – Sacred Suite 2 – Grand Zou Rough chance – (12) Niab
Race 6
First leg of the Quaddie.
Tony Gollan again is well represented here with four out of the eleven runners. If he has any luck if probably will trifecta the race for mine.
I went for his longest priced runner Corvo (6) to upset the stable-mates. Georgina Cartwright will ride this gelding who is third up this weekend. I just thought last start he had some bad luck at the start and did not race well after that.
Glitter Strip (10) is third up with Ben Thompson to ride – probably ready to show her best now.
Starosa (3) has Baylee Nothdurft aboard. She stormed home well last start and has won second up.
Selections:
6 – Corvo 10 – Glitter Strip 3 – Starosa 11 – Queen Dazzler Rough chance – (1) Mishani Epic
Race 7
This is an open race – just play wide.
I think that the Kendrick Racing runner Star Of Michelin (11) may cause a major upset – just like QLD did in Origin on Wednesday night. Oh yes and Matthew McGillivray is aboard this runner and he had plenty to say on the evening to WINNO! So, I am returning the favour and putting pressure on him to get this runner home here at massive odds.
David Vandyke trains Desert Lord (5) who was sent out a short, priced favourite first up when defeated soundly by The Harrovian who won again last weekend. That form line looks strong for this race. Another nice ride for Stephanie Thornton.
Lubuk (14) could be one at big odds as well to find a placing and make the exotics pay heaps!
Selections:
11 – Star Of Michelin 5 – Desert Lord 14 – Lubuk 12 – Starvirgo Rough chance – (4) Tokoriki Lad
Race 8
The feature race – 1350 metres Open class. A few of these are backing up from running last weekend.
I have found some value in the Gollan Racing runner – Snitch (5). Baylee Nothdurft is up. He normally fires third up and he looks well placed here. Some good speed in the race as well should enhance his chances.
Ballistic Boy (11) is a Chris Anderson runner who is resuming from a 22-week spell. He has had two solid trials – he won his last trial. With a genuine tempo here he will get back and be flashing home late – oh and yes Matthew McGillivray is in the saddle – you better have a go mate – unlike NSW did on Wednesday night or there may be some heckling from the crowd!
Last weeks’ winner Emerald Kingdom (4) from Heathcote Racing was very impressive and does race well third up. Look I cannot knock the form or the win – just playing a little wider this weekend. Michael Cahill rode him to perfection last weekend, and he should get a superb run again.
Grey Missile (12) ran a gallant race last weekend when defeated by Emerald Kingdom (4) and meets him better at the weights this weekend. Maybe he could reverse that result – I said MAYBE!
Selections:
5 – Snitch 11 – Ballistic Boy 12 – Grey Missile 4 – Emerald Kingdom
Race 9
The last race – with no sign of storms this weekend. Maybe we will be on time and not get wet!
I like Racecourse Road (10) first up from a 19-week spell. I like him to jump, from barrier 3, to the lead and try and lead all the way. Ronnie Stewart is in the saddle. He rode him in a nice trial win this week on Tuesday at Eagle Farm. He could cause an upset here in the last race.
Stuttering (4) is second up and will be ready to fire this weekend – Mark Du Plessis to ride.
Command ‘N’ Conquer (6) is a Steve Tregea trained runner who has shown some serious ability. He is first up from a 23-week spell. He will be ready to go here with regular jockey Jimmy Orman to ride. Watch for this runner to sit in behind the speed before flashing home late – these two are a great combination and they deserve to be the pre-post favourite for the race.
Selections:
10 – Racecourse Road 4 – Stuttering 6 – Command N Conquer 9 – Le Palmier Rough chances – (8) Snowzone

WINNO V FLEMO
WINNO got FLEMO last weekend. The battle continues. He has bragging rights after the dirty QLDers beat NSW in Origin on Wednesday night. Looks like NSW are in a mountain of trouble after their captain has been ruled out of the series late Friday but I’m going for NSW to sneak home by 2 points. Man of the match next week will be James Tedesco.
Be sure to check the up to date and amended tips each Saturday morning on Facebook after any track changes and scratchings where I will post our selections and any late mail!
