EF OCT 17 - BANKS SHINES ON BOLD GLANCE
By Matthew Grimson | Monday, October 19, 2009
Eagle Farm, October 17, 2009. Track - Good 2. Rail - out 2m. 2MW Handicap - 1200m. Time: 1-09.97. 1 Bold Glance; 2 Bazzooka; 3 Ulladulla.
Jockey Kristy Banks is gaining quite a reputation for her good strike-rate in town and she provided further evidence of her smart riding ability when scoring and end to end win on the Norm Hilton trained Bold Glance.
Bazzooka was the runner who tracked Bold Glance early in second spot and the top weight was still the closest runner to Bold Glance when the gelding crossed the line as the winner. Banks had rated the four-year-old well enough in the running to ensure that the top weight (Bazzooka carried 5.5kg more than Bold Glance) would feel the pinch when she asked Bold Glance to stretch out halfway up the straight. The winning margin was 1.30 lengths.
It was still a sound effort by the runner-up, but Bold Glance did have him covered all the way up the straight. This was Bold Glance’s fourth win from only eleven starts.
WINNER FEEDBACK: Trainer Norm Hilton: “I thought he looked good today and he’s always raced well fresh. He’ll go to the Magic Millions Cup over 1400m and then we will see after that. The race should suit him. He won a Listed race over 1400m on Anzac day. Beyond that we will give him a let up and then bring him back during the Winter Carnival.”
Jockey Kristy Banks: “He’s a good horse. He’s always good out of the boxes and he just sprung out and got to the front easy. I said to Norm (Hilton), he’ll improve out of this run and he is probably going to win a few nice races.”
PRICE FLUCTUATIONS: Winner (Bold Glance): 6.00 in to 5.00. Favourite (Citiwyse): 2.80 out to 3.10. Finished fourth.
STEWARDS REPORT EXTRACT: Nepro (C. McIver) was slow to begin. Woorim (L. Cassidy), which was a little slow to begin, was tightened for room shortly after the start between Bold Glance (K. Banks) and Ulladulla (J. Byrne),which was taken out by Lennon(L. Rolls). Citiwyse (K. Wharton) commenced to over-race leaving the 1000m and did so until inside the 600m. Van Rooyen (S. Seamer) over-raced in the middle stages and near the 400m shifted in of its own accord and made contact with the running rail. Manston (M. Hellyer) raced wide throughout, and M. Hellyer dropped his whip near the 200m.
Stewards sought an explanation from L. Cassidy regarding his riding of Woorim rounding the home turn and in the home straight. L. Cassidy explained that after being hampered shortly after the start he was forced to take up a position at the tail of the field and rounding the home turn he attempted to shift wider on the track to obtain clear running however he was unable to do this as Ulladulla shifted out at that point.
He added that Woorim finished the race off well, however, in his opinion, would be better suited over further distance.
