EAGLE FARM RACES – SATURDAY 26 DECEMBER 2020
This weekend we are back at Eagle Farm. The racing was fair a fortnight ago with runners coming from all over the track – both on and off the speed.
Let’s see what we get this weekend. This weekend with the track rated “SOFT”. The rail is in the true position for the entire circuit. I think we will be racing on a GOOD surface come Saturday.
Boxing Day at the races – SO MUCH FUN!
NB: As these selections were made prior to race-day please check for any changes to track conditions and for any scratchings on the day.
Race 1
A distance race to start the day off.
Galteri (3) looks the likely leader. If he gets away with some cheap sectionals and is not taken on – he could just keep going and not be run down late.
With the smaller field this weekend I am hoping that Seentoomany (2), from the Michael Costa yards on the Gold Coast with Brad Stewart in the saddle, can get us off to a good start. She is back in grade and I just hope she can get the job done.
Baritone (5) and Warp Speed (8) both come off recent wins and could notch up go on with it.
Selections:
2 – Seentoomany 5 – Baritone 8 – Warp Speed 3 – Galtero
Race 2
The first leg of the Early Quaddie over 1400 metres.
It is only a small field to go around.
Splendoronthegrass (3) was awesome in her recent start being beaten in a blanket finish here a fortnight ago by the $151 winner – Alison of Tuffy. She is trained by David Vandyke and Stephanie Thornton will stay aboard this weekend.
Hard Labour (4) is from the Edmonds Racing team. She has posted three emphatic wins and as you know winning form is great form - she faces her toughest test here this weekend. Fradd to ride.
The stablemate Baroda (1) comes to hand quickly and was solid winning first up on her home track. Is undefeated second up and Michael Cahill will ensure she gets a perfect run here.
A solid trifecta box 1 3, and 4.
Selections:
3 – Splendoronthegrass 4 – Hard Labour 1 – Baroda 5 – Lashoni
Race 3
A small field over the mile.
Chris Waller Racing from the Gold Coast has Kukeracha (1) making his debut in QLD this preparation. I think the mile will suit and, with a solid barrier trial in the lead up, he looks nicely placed – Luke Dittman in the saddle.
Dzsenifer (4) always races consistently. Gary Duncan is having a nice winning trot in town lately. She will be happy stepping up to the mile for the first time. Sean Cormack to steer her here.
Eelloh (5) from the Desleigh Forster yards is on the quick back up after last weekend. Not sure went wrong last weekend – maybe the tempo of the race. Her effort was out of character and I think we can look for a big improvement this weekend now she steps up to the mile.
Selections:
1 – Kukeracha 4 – Dzsenifer 5 – Eelloh 6 – Petunia
Race 4 Magic Millions B.J. McLachlan Stakes
Always a great guide to the Magic Millions.
Shaquero (1) comes to QLD from the Chris Waller’s yards in Sydney. He had a solid hit out in a barrier trial at Canterbury a fortnight ago – looks well placed – will lead from barrier 1 and gives Luke Dittman a nice chance to post a race to race double.
Toby & Trent Edmonds have an exciting Better Then Ready colt in Alpine Edge (3) in their yards. He was super impressive in the Phelan Ready here at Eagle Farm. I wonder what tactics they may exercise this weekend as he led easily last start and ran the opposition into the ground. I wonder whether they may just sit off the Waller runner and see who is the fittest come the last 100 metres of this race! Robbie Fradd remains aboard.
Subterranean (4) was also dominant in his win last start over this distance of 1200 metres. He is trained by Matthew Dunn Racing and cannot be overlooked.
Selections:
1 – Shaquero 3 – Alpine Edge 4 – Subterranean 5 – Baby Wong
Race 5
Steven O’Dea and Matthew Hoysted has a nice one here in Shooting For Gold (2). He was impressive winning his last start three weeks ago at Doomben. He is second up here – Justin Huxtable has an impressive record on him – four starts for three wins and a second.
Good Chat (6) is a David Vandyke runner. Solid effort last start over 1400 metres here – Ryan Maloney stays on top.
Oh Five Glory (1) is from the Hulbert Racing stables. They have put Michael Rodd on her this weekend. She has been very unlucky in her past two starts when running second – both times beaten by horses ridden by Justin Huxtable.
I suppose it would be ironic if she is beaten again this weekend by Shooting For Gold (2) ridden by non-other than – JUSTIN HUXTABLE!
Selections:
2 – Shooting For Gold 6 – Good Chat 1 – Oh Five Glory 8 – Warrah Flash
Race 6 Mullins Lawyers Grand Prix Stakes (Group 3)
First leg of the Quaddie this weekend.
Set weights here helps the topweight – owned by media personality John Singleton, trained by Chris Waller and will be ridden by Glen Boss. Boss is having a good run in QLD since arriving for the Carnival. This Redoute’s Choice colt has always shown some ability and I think will just be too good for them here on Boxing Day. If he can run the distance out, he is a special!
Dhukuri (6) is from Godolphin Racing – James Cummings. He is probably the dark horse of the field as I think he has shown in his past few starts that he is looking for this distance. The Godolphin team have a base at the Gold Coast for the QLD Summer Carnival – not much success to date – maybe this runner to be ridden by Brad Stewart will change the fortune for the stable.
See Marie (11) from the Desleigh Forster stables has been looking for this distance and will acquit herself well here. Jim Byrne to ride – look for those distinctive red and green quartered silks to be flashing home out late wide.
Selections:
1 – The Elanora 6 – Dhakuri 11 – See Marie 10 – Dune Forty Five Rough chance – (5) Mr Gee
Race 7 Bernborough Plate (Listed)
Over the mile.
Well, everyone has seen the constant winning form of The Harrovian (4) – he is an absolute war horse. Now trained by the Edmonds Racing team – I remember he seemed to struggle in late October over the mile at Doomben. He has been racing in tremendous form, deserves to be favourite and it would be a wonderful story for him to win this race. Brad Stewart continues his association with the seven-year-old gelding.
I am going to say he will be beaten this weekend – either egg on my face – or WINNO will be a genius.
The set weight scale I think brings the Godolphin runner Gaulois (1) right into calculations for this race. He was working home nicely last time out when beaten by Ballistic Boy over the road at Doomben when he carried a massive 61 kilograms. Michael Rodd is in the saddle this weekend and with a solid record over the mile - 5 wins and 4 placings from 13 starts - I think at $8 each way he is a great bet!
Oh yes – I will be waiting for the brick bats from the “experts” after the race if The Harrovian wins – bring it on!
Profit (8) from the Chris Anderson Racing stables I think desperately needs this distance and maybe even longer after his recent efforts. Matthew McGillivray is in the saddle. He will appreciate the speed in the race – a small field will help him thunder down the outside here late – at some stage in the straight I am sure he will look the winner.
Baccarat Baby (7) – a good mare third up from the David Vandyke stables – maybe she is ready to show something here this weekend.
Skate to Paris (9) from Munce Racing has a wonderful record here at the mile – could cause a major upset.
Selections:
1 – Gaulois 4 – The Harrovian 8 – Profit 7 – Baccarat Baby Rough chance – (9) Skate to Paris
Race 8 Falvelon Quality (Listed)
Only a small field here for this race – a sprint over 1200 metres.
I think the weights may play a big part in this race So, I am tipping the Peter & Paul Snowden trained Hightail (7). He has an impeccable first up record. The recent trials have been solid as well – drawn well and down in the weights. Ben Thompson to ride for the NSW stable – seriously nice odds at around $12.
Now the Godolphin trio all look like they could win as well. Recent efforts and their trials have been noteworthy.
Roheryn (5) is undefeated first up in 4 starts and does love 1200 metres. Michael Rodd to ride. His trial form is always indifferent in the lead up to resuming, however, he always seems to put it together on the day.
Isaurian (4) has never been defeated first up either – 5 starts, 5 wins. He is resuming from a lengthy break. Michael Cahill has this ride for the BLUE ARMY. Trials have been good – maybe he can resume on this track and keep him unblemished first up record.
The other Godolphin runner is the top weight Viridine (1) – he is a proven performer at Group level. Brad Stewart has the ride. The recent barrier trial at Canterbury was strong – just a little worried with 61 kilograms to carry.
Selections:
7 – Hightail 5 – Roheryn 4 – Isaurian 1 – Viridine
Race 9
The last race – on Boxing Day – by now the Indian cricket team are all out for 186.
We should have some cash in our pockets, and we need to either stay out of this race or play wide!
Tony Gollan Racing may hold the key to this final race with his runner Angus The Black (13). This runner stormed home late at the recent twilight meeting at Doomben. The way he won he will go on with that winning form here this weekend – I like the $16 that is on offer as well.
Edmonds Racing have two solid chances as well in Peppi Le Few (4) and Great Keppell (6).
Great Keppell (6) has won his past two starts and, despite barrier 13, looks well placed here.
Peppi Le Few (4) led last start at the Sunshine Coast and was run down late. I think that there is some other speed in the race here that could allow Brad Stewart to settle off the speed and make a late dash at them. He is third up as well and normally races well.
Baller (1) is another nice chance for Luke Dittman and the Chris Waller yards. Last start he was working home late and now stepping up to 1400 metres he will be better suited here this weekend – 59.5 kilograms does worry me a little.
Stampe (2) from Munce Racing turned in a wonderful effort last start here over this distance when he was beaten narrowly by Master Jamie. Another effort like that and he could get the chocolates for the Munce and Huxtable combination.
Gee Tee Tee (9) was impressive winning here last start over the 1300 metres. The extra distance will be no drama and this race looks ideal for this O’Dea and Hoysted trained Written Tycoon gelding. Ben Thompson has the ride here again. Barrier 14 is probably not that much of a drama either – he will be suited by the speed drawn inside him and should be able to take up a nice position in the running.
To be fair there are many other chances here – Robert Heathcote has some good runners in Starvirgo (11) and Stuttering (7). Both have been unlucky in recent efforts and would not surprise if they turned up here.
Tough way to end the day – I just hope Tony Gollan can grab us a long-priced winner!
Selections:
13 – Angus The Black 9 – Gee Tee Tee 1 – Baller 4 – Peppi La Few Rough chance – (2) Stampe & (6) Great Keppell

Glen Boss, Luke Dittman and Brad Stewart all look like they have some solid rides this weekend. I think the local lads may just have a slight edge – Stewart from Dittman by a nose!
