DISSOLUTION WINS AT BIG ODDS FOR DAVID VANDYKE

Five favourites might have won at Doomben on Saturday but there is always space for a long-priced winner and this time, surprisingly, it came in the form of the David Vandyke trained Dissolution, an $18 chance.

Vandyke prides himself on turning out his horses ready to compete … a trait that punters are readily aware of … and invariably his winners are short priced in the market, but Dissolution has now twice bucked that trend with his previous win, in August 2020 being landed at an even bigger odds of $21.

Vandyke, who is Dissolution’s fourth trainer, has now sent Dissolution out for three wins from the thirteen starts since he entered the Vandyke stable nineteen months ago back in June 2019 … a reasonable improvement on the two wins from twenty starts record Dissolution brought with him when relocating to the Vandyke yard.

“That worked out well,” said Vandyke, referring to Dissolution’s latest success. “I said to Mark (Du Plessis) don’t ride him pretty … make sure you give him plenty of room. He is not a horse that you can tuck away behind runners and expect to sprint … and Mark rode him perfectly.

“Dissolution came up to us from Sydney and he has been a terrific acquisition.

“This race was the plan we settled on when the Magic Millions Carnival was on. He is not a Magic Millions type horse. This looked like the ideal race … 2000m. We gave him a little top-up barrier trail in-between, so it was great to see him perform like that. It was wonderful to see him win and win so dominantly.”

Dissolution was Mark Du Plessis’s second winner for David Vandyke. The first success for this trainer-rider combination came last Sunday when Iamican saluted at the Sunshine Coast.

Vandyke also had a winner at Ipswich on Saturday where Hold The Line, who had raced in Listed company in four of his five previous starts, proved too strong for her rivals in a Class 6 contest.

Hold The Line, who was second-up, is a five time winner from sixteen starts.
