WINNO'S WINNERS: SUNSHINE COAST, JANUARY 30, 2021

SUNSHINE COAST RACES – SATURDAY 30 JANUARY 2021
This weekend we head to the Sunshine Coast where the track is rated “GOOD”. The rail is in the true position for the entire circuit.
Brief this weekend – WINNO has had a huge week – Australia Day at Kilcoy was sensational!
Race 1
Tony Gollan dominates the race – he could trifecta the race with his three runners.
Of them the promising Lyrical Girl (6) resumes here from a 13-week spell with Ryan Maloney in the saddle. She will have to be at her best to win the race. I like the stable-mate Air Spirit (12) to “come from the clouds” and knock off the short priced stable-mate in the first race. Michael Rodd rides this mare, and she has a terrific record here on the track – plus she is $15. Gollan’s other runner is Leadership Spill (8) resuming as well – Tegan Harrison aboard.
Edmonds Racing could be looking to spoil the Gollan party with Modelka (11), resuming from a 25-week spell. She is undefeated here on the track with two starts for two wins.
Selections:
12 – Air Spirit 6 – Lyrical Girl 11 – Modelka 8 – Leadership Spill
Race 2
Steven O’Dea and Matthew Hoysted train Little River (7), resuming here – could show up after a solid effort in a recent trial – Ben Thompson to ride.
Locally trained Zingalong (3) with Tegan Harrison to ride again – looks well placed and hard to beat.
I would place a big watch on the Kris Lees Racing runner Snitzari (4) who comes off a first up win at Muswellbrook. That effort was good, and I think on this big track she will be thundering home late. You must respect her chances with Andrew Mallyon in the saddle after his winning race to race treble last weekend at Doomben which he backed up with another treble at Eagle Farm on Thursday.
Selections:
3 – Zingalong 7 – Little River 4 – Snitzari 2 – Simply Fly
Race 3
The two-year-old runners go around here.
Les Ross Racing has three runners. Mishani Enchanted (5) has some solid form and was hampered in the running last weekend at Doomben. Forget that run – she will win this race with Michael Rodd aboard.
Rose Of Duporth (8) can walk across the road from the Stuart Kendrick yards and come to her home track second up. Her first up effort is a lot better what you read in the race book – Jake Bayliss partners her this weekend.
Glorious Ruby (6) had a sensational debut the week before Magic Millions and ran out of her skin for trainer Bryan Dais when beaten by Swift Witness – the logical favourite if she repeats that effort here this weekend.
Selections:
5 – Mishani Enchanted 8 – Rose Of Duporth 6 – Glorious Ruby 7 – Mishani Tulip
Race 4
Tough race this one. No metro win race over 1200 metres.
Natalie McCall trains the favourite Platinum Euros (10) who goes well at this track. Won his last start here when heavily backed at a short price – Tiffani Brooker to ride. I am just not too sure that there are others at value that may trouble this runner but at $2 in the early markets I am prepared to say he may struggle here this weekend.
Ramtastic (1) ran a solid race in the Magic Millions Country Cup beaten only 2 lengths in a blanket finish. The bigger track and with Jim Byrne aboard him again this weekend - at $20 I think he represents solid each way value for the Schweida Racing stables – an upset could be looming.
The other runner I like is Golly Hut (7) who resumes after a 21-week spell for trainer Malcolm Reynolds. I think he will race well fresh despite no official barrier trial form. He is $26 in the early markets and his three career wins have all been on this track – Stephanie Thornton to ride.
Selections:
1 – Ramtastic 7 – Golly Hut 10 – Platinum Euros 4 – Jetski
Race 5
A race over a mile.
Enterprise Prince (6) and Roman Aureus (2) back up on a quick turn-around from last weekend at Doomben.
Enterprise Prince (6) is trained by Mick Lakey and he was making solid ground last weekend along the rail. The way he worked home last weekend would suggest that the mile will be right up his alley this weekend. Jimmy Orman takes the ride.
Roman Aureus (2), trained by Brian Wakefield goes up sharply in the weights after the wonderful win last weekend. They have put apprentice Leah Kilner aboard this weekend and her 3-kilogram claim will come in handy for this race. Just not too sure how she will handle the mile.
Couldn’t Refuse (3), a Desleigh Forster runner with proven form over a mile, must be respected. Nicely placed in the race by the stable and Jim Byrne aboard – he does look a very solid chance.
Star Of Michelin (3) is trained here by Stuart Kendrick and is racing back on his home track. They have kept Sheriden Tomlinson aboard with his three-kilogram claim and that will make a massive difference. His run at the Gold Coast when beaten by Paradee in the lead up to Magic Millions was a lot better than it appears on paper. He had little luck in running and he does drop back to a mile – these factors all need to be carefully considered, BUT he does race well here.
Selections:
6 – Enterprise Prince 5 – Couldn’t Refuse 3 – Star Of Michelin 2 – Roman Aureus
Race 6
First leg of the Quaddie. A tough assignment.
The Gollan Racing team pair with Ryan Maloney and Pull Anchor (10) – hopefully will not find a snag in the straight and power home to win the race. She raced very well last start 3 weeks ago on the Gold Coast when beaten by Stolen Jade. She got out of her ground and on a day where it was difficult to make ground on the leaders, but she finished off the race superbly. This Sunshine Coast track should suit her nicely this weekend.
Samurai (4) could well slay the opposition as his name suggests. He is trained on the Gold Coast by Noel Doyle and Jag Guthmann-Chester retains the ride here. He has raced here previously and looks the likely challenger.
Lunar Light (8) see the Bryan and Daniel Guy team up here with Michael Rodd. This mare goes well second up and will appreciate the track – she is a good each way chance.
Selections:
10 – Pull Anchor 4 – Samurai 8 – Lunar Light 2 – Kateru
Race 7
This is an open race – first leg of the treble.
I think that the local trained Way Beyond (7) can make his presence felt here for trainer Stuart Kendrick. His latest efforts at Eagle Farm has been great. He has had five weeks since his last run and drops back in distance. From a Group 3 Grand Prix back to the mile could see Jag Guthmann-Chester grab a unique race to race double.
Divulge (9) is a lightly raced gelding from Gollan Racing who looks very progressive. He is the early market favourite and Jim Byrne is in the saddle. His last start was only his maiden win at Doomben, however, he looks like he has plenty of improvement in him.
Criminal Defence (8) from Hulbert Racing is on the quick back up after racing last weekend. In his past two starts he has motored home late and he gives the impression that a mile is right up his alley. He has won here previously and the big track should enable Andrew Mallyon to peel him wide and set him alight down the crown of the track. He has been well backed since the markets opened sensationally firming from $13 to $5.50.
Selections:
7 – Way Beyond 9 – Divulge 8 – Criminal Defence 5 – Igor Rough chance – (1) Magic Conqueror
Race 8
The feature race – the Sunshine Coast Cup over 1400 metres.
This race has a history of turning up and upset – so you may have to play wide.
I like the David Vandyke trained Splendoronthegrass (11) who was pipped in the last stride at the Gold Coast last start over 1400 metres. Stephanie Thornton remains aboard her and she was well supported last start – back to her home track and down on the minimum I expect them to sit in behind the likely leader Emerald Kingdom (1) and make a late run.
Juventus (14) is a dual acceptor from the Kris Lees Racing yards. Andrew Mallyon to ride. Comes to QLD after some solid efforts in Sydney. The blinkers go on this weekend and this gear change will make a big difference for mine. He does not win often, but the weight drop here this weekend could see him storm home late.
Emerald Kingdom (1) from Robert Heathcote Racing is coming back from Listed grade races and has copped a big weight here. He has an ideal distance this weekend and Michael Rodd has been booked to ride him for the stable. Money has continued to flow into him since the markets opened – firming from $4.50 to $3.90.
Tokoriki Lad (6) from Gollan Racing goes well at this track and won here at the track and distance three starts ago. He does like to get back in his races and come late – barrier 14 this weekend should not be a drama as I would expect jockey Jim Byrne to make his run wide hopefully in clear air – just depends on the tempo of the race whether he will be in the finish off this weekend.
Selections:
11 – Splendoronthegrass 14 – Juventus 1 – Emerald Kingdom 6 – Tokoriki Lad
Race 9
The last race on a big day at the Sunshine Coast is a sprint over 1000 metres.
Tullio (6) resumed at the Gold Coast over 900 metres and made ground late. If the rain comes as is promised on the weekend, he will be right in this race as his best form is on wet tracks. Bobby El-Issa takes the ride this weekend.
Tambos Mate (1) drops back in distance and grade and despite the big weight looks well placed here on his home track. He has the tongue tie on as well for the first time and Ryan Maloney aboard – I think he could salute here.
Spurcraft (2) was awesome over 900 metres at the Gold Coast when he flashed home behind Sugar Boom in a great effort – he can mix his form up a bit, but with three weeks between runs he looks ideally placed this weekend.
Kylease (7) resumes from a 26-week spell – races good on all surfaces and could show up fresh with some solid speed in this race. Stephanie Thornton rides.
If you are looking for a roughie to get you home in the last – Kalik (12) has drawn the rails and has a light weight – trained here by Tony Haydon and Mark Du Plessis to ride he could cause an upset in the final race of the day.
Selections:
1 – Tambos Mate 6 – Tullio 2 – Spurcraft 7 – Kylease Rough chances – (12) Kalik ______________________________________________________________________
