GENERAL WOLFFE ROMPS IN FOR RON CAMERON

By Graham Potter | Thursday, February 11, 2021

When you only have two horses in work and one of them comes out and romps in by a widening 5.50 length margin it is enough to put a big smile on your face.

That was the case for trainer Ronald Cameron in the opening race at Doomben today when the two-year-old colt General Wolffe got the job done in no uncertain terms.

The pleasure of the win was all the greater as General Wolffe is owned Cameron’s wife, keeping it all in the family.

“I bought the mare in foal,” explained Cameron, “and I initially was going to sell him at the Ready To Run sale, but I didn’t get enough money for him so I kept him. It’s turned out to be a wise decision.

“He is a good-looking colt, and he is a lovely natured boy too. He is very easy to handle.

‘We just haven’t had a decent barrier. He’s been drawn outside (in his last three starts). We had a decent barrier this time.

“We’ll sit down with a glass of wine tonight and think about where we will go with him from here.”

**General Wolffe was winning for the first time at the fifth time of asking, having previously shown to reasonable effect. particularly when finishing fifth at the Gold Coast on January 9 when six lengths behind the very well performed duo of Finance Tycoon and Shaquero (who went on to win the Magic Millions Two-Year-Old Classic the following week).
