COLETTE OUTGUNS KOLDING IN THE APOLLO STAKES

The two winners of the Golden Eagle over the last two years, Colette and Kolding, ran the quinella in the Group 2 Apollo Stakes at Randwick with the $12 chance Colette taking the honours by a decisive two length margin under a super ride from Rachel King.
Kolding made a brave move for home in the straight, but when King switched her mount around Kolding’s heels and into clear running, it quickly became apparent that Colette was going the better of the two runners and she bounded away to a most impressive victory for the James Cummings stable.
It was no cigar for trainer Chris Waller this time, but the champion trainer did saddle the second, third and fourth place runners in the form of Kolding, the $2.50 favourite Verry Elleegant and Funstar respectively.
Colette was neglected in the betting, coming home at a starting price of $12.
The four-year-old mare’s last win came in her last start (in the Golden Eagle) which means she was winning for the second time in a row.
Perhaps punters should be warned. The last time Colette started to put a winning sequence in place she went on to win four-in-a-row.
