LIGHTSABER CUTS A PATH TO VICTORY

The Peter Moody trained two-year-old colt Lightsaber ($2.80) made it two wins from three starts when he scored an end-to-end victory at Sandown.

The son of Zoustar had it all his own way early on, setting a leisurely gallop before cementing the win with a sustained run in the straight, which firstly quickly saw off the threat of Frontman ($4.20), who fell away, before having more than enough in hand to hold off the determined late challenge of the $2.50 favourite Daily Bugle.

Lightsaber had previously finished second on debut at Geelong under Dean Yendall, who was back on board him here, before coming back a winner in his second start at Sandown when partnered by Luke Nolen.

“I did say to Peter (Moody) when I rode him in his first start that he was a nice horse … just raw, still learning his caper and his trade,” said Yendall.

“He is a lovely quiet horse to ride. Obviously, Luke (Nolen) couldn’t ride him because he got suspended, but it was good for me that Peter got me back on him. Obviously, I had a sit on him first-up and I knew how he was and how he went.

“He has definitely improved. There is still the blinker option, but I think that is for next time in if he really needs it. He is taking everything in his stride. He doesn’t look around. His race manners are pretty good.

“Because it was the first time he led he was a bit lost out in front in the straight, but he does settle well and, when I asked him to, he quickened nicely.”
