IPSW OCT 22 - LIVERMORE, APTHORPE SEND PUNTERS SCURRYING FOR COVER
By Graham Potter | Friday, October 23, 2009
Ipswich based trainer Geoff Livermore stepped out onto home turf and sent punters scurrying for cover as he, flying in tandem with jockey Shannon Apthorpe, landed a race-to-race double in the first two races on the card to have most investors at the track wondering where road-works are when you need them. If only they could have been delayed for an hour or so they could have escaped the massacre.
Livermore only had two runners in action on the day and his clean sweep came in stunning fashion. Tahiti Dream started at $61.00 and returned a tote win dividend of $83.70 on Unitab. April Folly started at $31.00 and paid $57.20 on the tote.
Both runners were resuming after being spelled for four months and eight months respectively. Both were fresh and clearly keen to be back in action. Both were given perfect rides by Shannon Apthorpe who, incidentally, also brought home a $26 winner (Leica Lion) in the first race at Toowoomba last Saturday.
Punters had to wait until race six to see a favourite salute. The Helen Page trained Tonkatsu made it three-in-a-row with a strong showing as the $2.30 favourite there. The four-year-old was the only favourite to win on the day.
