THE D'AVILA NAME TO THE FORE AT CAIRNS
By Graham Potter | Tuesday, February 23, 2021
The D’Avila name was most prominent at the Cairns meeting on Tuesday, featuring amongst the winners in no less six of the seven races on the card.
Training honours on the day belonged to Sharlee D’Avila, who saddled four winners, while jockey Wanderson D’Avila kept the name in the headlines bringing home two winners. There was no overlap of winners between Sharlee and Wanderson.
The only race in which one or the other was not successful was the fourth race in which Wanderson did not have a ride and Sharlee saddled the third place-getter.
The D’Avila stable winners were Fox Warrior ($6.50), Sylvester ($2.50), Musical Girl ($4.60) and Nice Retort ($2.20).
Wanderson D’Avila posted his double aboard two Roy Chillemi trained runners … Oriental Girl ($2.00) and Robig ($6.50).
Since the start of 2021 Sharlee D’Avila has sent out twelve winners from thirty-eight runners. Those winners have helped take her current season total to twenty-seven winners, putting her well within sight of beating the stable’s return last season of thirty-eight winners.
Adding impetus to the stable’s progress is that its strike-rate hovers around the twenty-percent mark which is a creditable return wherever you are training.
Young apprentice Zac Lloyd shared the riding honours with D’Avila, bringing home Sylvester and Nice Retort, both for Sharlee D’Avila.
Lloyd only had two rides on the day.
