IPSW OCT 22 - STREET SIGN SHOWS THE WAY
By Graham Potter | Friday, October 23, 2009
Ipswich, October 22, 2009. Track - Good 3. Rail - out 2.5m. 3yo QTIS Maiden Handicap - 1000m. Time: 59.26. 1 Street Sign; 2 Aurora Sky; 3 Two Lipsticks.
The Neville Saunders trained Street Sign made light work of the opposition here. The filly had the run of the race throughout as jockey Phillip Wolfgram settled the three-year-old in fourth on the rail just off the speed early.
Street Sign was up to third, saving ground, on the turn and she moved into second place soon after straightening. From there, she only had to switch out around the heels of the leader Aurora Sky and find some acceleration, which she did with comfortable ease, to claim the honours.
WINNER FEEDBACK: Trainer Neville Saunders: “Yeah, the previous two runs this prep were very good runs. The stable-mate (Swift Sands) beat her ... the stable-mate obviously just that bit better than her. The other day (at Ipswich) she probably began just a little bit too quick. She led which wasn’t really her cup of tea. I think maybe she’ll even run 1400m. I think she will run 1400m later on.
“At this stage we are happy with here anyway. She’s paying here way. There’s probably still a win or two in there for her.”
STEWARDS REPORT EXTRACT: Geneva Gold (J. Byrne) jumped away awkwardly and lost ground. Brolly (J. Holder) hung out approaching and rounding the home turn. Zeditave Plus (W. Clasohm) raced three wide without cover throughout. Geneva Gold was held up and unable to improve rounding the home turn. Approaching the 200m Vonsta’s Heart (G. Geran), which was hanging out, was momentarily inconvenienced by Viewing (B. Stewart), which shifted out.
Mighty Clang (T. Pannell), which weakened badly from the 600m and was beaten a considerable distance, was examined by the Club's veterinary surgeon and found to be shin-sore and lame in the near-fore leg. Trainer T. Gillespie must provide a veterinary certificate prior to the gelding racing again.
G. Geran explained to stewards that Vonst’s Heart, which was having its first start, raced greenly throughout and from the 600m hung out which prevented him from riding that gelding out in the straight in his normal manner. Trainer B. Squair was advised that a warning would be placed on Vinsta’s Heart with regard to its racing manners. Trainer B. Squair indicated that he would look at applying blinkers to the gelding.
