DISSOLUTION DIGS DEEP IN THE GOLD COAST STAKES TO TO MAKE IT THREE WINS FROM HIS LAST FOUR STARTS

By Graham Potter | Saturday, March 13, 2021

Trainer David Vandyke appears to have found the key to the six-year-old gelding Dissolution who added the Carbine Club Gold Coast Stakes to his list of successes, making it three wins from his last four starts. Jockey Mark du Plessis has been in the saddle in all three of those wins.

Dissolution set a comfortable early gallop but as he brought the field to the home turn the runs came from his opposition and soon Dissolution was being challenged on all sides.

Du Plessis asked Dissolution to respond, which he did to maintain a narrow advantage, but the son of Snitzel had to remain resolute in what must have seemed like a very long straight to Du Plessis as Willo Titto ($17), who refused to go away, pressured Dissolution all the way to the line where 0.20 lengths separated the two runners.

“It was an incredible ride,” said Vandyke. “He (Du Plessis) really sucked them up … he played cat and mouse and, even when they came at him, he didn’t panic … the horse didn’t lose its stride. It was just a beautiful, polished exhibition.

“The horse is going well. I’m got to thank the owners … B K Racing. If I owned him, I would probably have scratched. I didn’t think he would handle the heavy going … but they pointed out he is a very fit horse and he said, he will probably lead and dictate … and that’s what happened.

“He really got off the canvas there. He did have a nice pull in the weights which makes a difference … particularly on that type of surface, but it was a great performance.

‘He’ll probably go out for a break now. He has had a fantastic preparation.”

“The 54kg helped a lot,” agreed Du Plessis. “He is in a very good vein of form this horse. He is flying … “and I’ve had a lot of practise in New Zealand with the wet tracks. He has done us proud.”
