MOUNT POPA AND WILLIE PIKE THE ONES TO BEAT IN THE LISTED MORNINGTON CUP

Black type racing hits the Mornington Peninsula tomorrow with 9 races set for action. The Neds Mornington Cup Day at Listed Level is the feature. We also have the Hareeba Stakes and the Mornington Guineas headlining a magnificent day’s racing.

Track Conditions will be a Good 4 with the rail True the Entire Circuit.

NB: As these selections were made prior to race-day please check for any changes to track conditions and for any scratchings on the day.

RACE 1. SUSTANIBILITY SIRES OVER 1500M FOR THE 2YO’S AT SWP

No 1 Micro. The most experienced runner in this opening event with 5 starts. He looks a smart one having placed 3 times including his last start in the VRC Sires.

RACE 2. BM84 HCP OVER 2000M

No 8 Mahashakti. The form runner in this race winning her last 4 races. A big step in class here but comes in well at the weights.

RACE 3. BM70 HCP OVER 1200M FOR THE 3YO FILLIES AND MARES

No 6 Incredulous Dream. Double nominated here along with the Valley tonight. Resuming here after 2 good trials. Comes through Yes Baby Yes form and beat Hindaam in his first start. Draws beautifully with Gate 4 and should get the box seat.

RACE 4. BM78 HCP OVER 1200M

No 12 Marabi. Unbeaten from her 2 starts with a combination winning margin of 13 lengths. She won her maiden at Pakenham by 6 lengths then backed it up by winning a Class 1 at The Valley by 7. Both runs were over the 1200 and is another runner that draws favourably from Gate 7 and will dictate the speed.

RACE 5. BM78 HCP OVER 1000M

No 7 Sapphire Crown. 3rd up after winning upon resumption in a BM70 at Flemington at the 1000 then beat home a Andermatt (who’s a live hope in the opener at Rosehill) at Rosehill in a BM78 over 1100. He’s won his only race when 3rd up.

RACE 6. MORNINGTON GUINEAS OVER THE MILE FOR THE 3YO’S AT SET WEIGHTS AND PENALTIES

No 2 Dom To Shoot. Impressive in his last 2 runs last prep running 3rd in the G2 WA Guineas and finished that campaign running 3rd in the G1 Kingston Town. 2 runs in Melbourne to resume this prep. A good run in the CS Hayes where he was good from the back then found the going too slick in the Australian Guineas.

RACE 7. THE LISTED NEDS MORNINGTON CUP OVER 2400M

No 7 Mount Popa. He comes to Victoria off the back of 2 wins and a place in his last 3 runs – all at Randwick. His last start was a win the Randwick City Stakes. Racing in super form.

RACE 8. THE LISTED NEDS HAREEBA STAKES OVER 1200M

No 1 Ancestry. On the quick back up after winning in last Saturday’s Abell Stakes. Was nominated for the William Reid but connections are taking the easier race here.

RACE 9. BM78 HCP OVER THE MILE

No 13 Merchant Of Venice. He’s coming in off the back of a good win in a BM78 at the Hillside track. Has from around Challiot and Zoushack in his last two 1st up runs. Will appreciate the 2 runs this prep and the extra trip should be no problems here.
