EAGLE FARM RACES – SATURDAY 20 MARCH 2021
Eagle Farm this weekend with the track rated “SOFT at the time of writing. The rail is 2.5 metres out for the entire circuit. There is supposed to be heaps of rain forecast leading up to the meeting … so, beware!
The real question is concerning the meeting at Rosehill. Will GOLDEN SLIPPER day 2021 go ahead with the torrential rains in Sydney over recent days?
NB: As these selections were made prior to race-day please check for any changes to track conditions and for any scratchings on the day.
Race 1
What will be the pattern of racing be – that is the question that everyone will be wanting answered.
Gollan Racing has Chico Milagro (2) second up with Michael Rodd to ride. Has a strong second up record.
Lubuk (5) is now trained by Cody Morgan with a 3-kilogram claim for apprentice Leah Kilner. This runner resumes here with some gear changes and a solid trial under his belt. Could be some value at $15.
Steven O’Dea and Matthew Hoysted are well represented with Wonderful Riri (6) having her second run for the stable. The win first up on a heavy track was superb – maybe she gets conditions to challenge the more favoured runners here this weekend. Ben Thompson rides for the stable – must be noted that he has a 26% winning strike rate with the O’Dea / Hoysted training partnership.
Selections:
2 – Chico Milagro 5 – Lubuk 6 – Wonderful Riri 7 – Dixon Bay
Race 2
The first leg of the Early Quaddie over 2206 metres.
It is only a smallish field again.
The Cullinan (1) and Bold Executive (3) battled out a race here a fortnight ago over 1805 metres.
If there is some speed in the race this weekend The Cullinan (1) looks difficult to beat again. Leah Kilner rides again here and could land a race to race double with any luck.
Calm Seeker (4) has been racing consistently and I think has been crying out for this distance – look for an improved effort. This runner is trained by Matt Kropp and Michael Rodd rides.
Selections:
1 – The Cullinan 3 – Bold Executive 4 – Calm Seeker 5 – Point Counterpoint
Race 3
A race over a mile.
Abracadazzle (4) is another Gollan Racing runner that has the services of Michael Rodd this weekend. Tegan Harrison has ridden her in her last three starts and is not in the saddle this weekend after a recent injury has put her out of the saddle again – she has had not much luck in recent times! Rest up TEGZ and get better. It will be great to see your smiling face back at the track once you are recovered!
Back When (5) is trained by Garnett Taylor and Ryan Wiggins ins riding. Back When is third up here and had a solid hit out last start when he flashed home behind Georgie’s Pride. The mile will suit and he will be competitive.
Selections:
4 – Abracadazzle 5 – Back When 2 – Cosmic Gossip 9 – Gullfoss Rough chance – (1) Bangers and Mayo
Race 4
The two-year-old runners go around here.
I’ve Been Here (3) and King Gutho (4) went around last weekend in the Gold Coast Jewel on a heavy bog track.
I think the extra 200 metres – 1400 metres - suits the Stuart Kendrick trained I’ve Been There (3) with Jimmy Orman to ride. His other runner Kenny Boy (1) has the blinkers on for his second career start. He won here first up over 1300 metres on protest.
Leaglese (8) is trained by Bryan & Daniel Guy and will be ridden by Michael Cahill. I think that she has just got better with each run and the longer distance should suit.
Selections:
3 – I’ve Been There 8 – Leaglese 1 – Kenny Boy 4 – King Gutho Rough chance – (9) Miss Got
Race 5
An Open sprint over 1200 metres.
You can make a case for every runner – it will all come down to the racing pattern or keep your eye on any late market movers on the day.
Chris Waller Racing has Maddi Rocks (5) and Jay Jay D’ar (6) in the race. Jay D’ar (6) won three weeks ago at the Sunshine Coast. Looks a similar style race here this weekend – Michael Cahill rides.
Maddi Rocks (5) got too far back last start on a track that favoured leaders. This weekend she may race closer, and the smaller field may be of benefit as well. Ronnie Stewart rides for the stable.
Tesarc (8) is trained by Mark Currie – Bobby El-Issa rides. This runner does like the track. He is up in grade – but down in weights – maybe that will assist his chances this weekend.
Royal Witness (2) is an Edmonds Racing runner after a recent stable change. He resumed last start here over 1000 metres and looked like he may have needed the run. He best efforts have always been over 1000 metres to 1100 metres – so he may be found wanting late.
Selections:
6 – Jay Jay D’ar 8 – Tesarc 2 – Royal Witness 5 – Maddi Rocks
Race 6
First leg of the Quaddie this weekend over 2206 metres – incredibly open field.
Have gone with some value with Impactful (10) who has come to the Gold Coast Chris Waller yards after having three runs in Sydney. At $15 he looks a great each way chance. Michael Cahill to ride again.
Loveisili (4), trained by Kris Lees, had his first run here on the track three weeks ago – drops in weight and gets a further weight relief for Justin Huxtable. The extra distance should help.
Joymaker (5) keeps performing consistently and is the early market favourite – I just think some of these other runners could appreciate the longer distance of this race.
Go Darcy (7) is trained on the Gold Coast by Scott Morrisey and will be ridden by Michael Hellyer. These two has a good strike rate when they pair up. Go Darcy has won three of his past four starts and steps up to Saturday grade in town – I think that if he gets a quiet run, he should finish off strongly.
Selections:
10 – Impactful 4 – Loveisili 7 – Go Darcy 5 – Joymaker
Race 7
Over the 1300 metres here for the first leg of the treble.
Golly Hut (4) is trained by Malcolm Reynolds and is fourth up this preparation. Despite going up in weight he looks well placed with Jimmy Orman to ride.
Hidden Eyes, trained by Donald “Ducky” Baker, is on a quick back up after narrowly going down last weekend at Ipswich. I think that on this larger track with the chance to gain momentum he is right in this race. Adin Thompson takes a 2-kilogram claim. This runner must be considered when you are looking for value in the exotic bets.
Jakama (9) has won his past two starts at Ipswich for trainer John Dann. He has Sheriden Tomlinson abord this weekend and gets in well with his claim. At $3.50 I think he is under the odds – but can respect the recent winning form.
Alpenduranda (11) is trained by Robert Heathcote and will need some speed in the race as he gets back in his races. Michael Rodd is a master at rating horses and summing up tempo. He is silly odds at $9. If they go in hard and they are making ground across the meeting this runner is a genuine chance.
All Important (1) is probably the best runner in the field – just the big weight bothers me.
Selections:
4 – Golly Hutt 5 – Hidden Eyes 11– Alpendurada 9 – Jakama Rough chance – (1) All Important
Race 8
A few early scratchings in this race.
Ventura Ocean (8) won here last start and looks hard to toss again this weekend for the Kris Lees Racing stables and with Andrew Mallyon to ride again.
Scottish Mist (16) is a Robert Heathcote Racing runner who races well and consistently. Last time out she was beaten on the post by Jay Jay D’ar (race 5 – number 6). There is a solid form line here so see how that race pans out.
Baroda (10) ran here 3 weeks ago, led and was run down in the shadow of the post. Despite the wide barrier she has the speed to get out of the gates and get across.
Lunar Light (14), trained by Bryan & Daniel Guy, could cause an upset on a wet track second up. It must be noted she is undefeated second up. Sheriden Tomlinson is in the saddle.
Selections:
8 – Ventura Ocean 16 – Scottish Mist 10 – Baroda 14 – Lunar Light Rough chance – (2) Enterprise Prince
Race 9
The last race of the day over 1600 metres – at Class 3 level – this is a lottery!
I have gone for some value here in the last race.
The Dark (9) trained by Scott Morrisey and to be ridden by Michael “Muppy” Hellyer is at $25. He was beaten last start by Mosshiki (7). Look, he does meet the winner worse at the weights for that defeat with the conditions of this race, but I think he is a genuine each way chance.
Mosshiki (7) is a Robert Heathcote Racing runner. Michael Rodd sits on him this weekend and he looks well placed.
Racing Paradise (8), trained by Desleigh Forster, is another runner at $31 that could create an upset in this last race.
Word For Word (11) is the early favourite for the race to be ridden by Luke Dittman. Trained now on the Gold Coast by Chris Waller she was narrowly beaten last start. Maybe she can get into the winner’s stall!
Parangas (13) steps up to the mile this weekend third up from a spell – keep safe.
Selections:
9 – The Dark 7 – Mosshiki 8 – Racing Paradise 11 – Word For Word Rough chances – (13) Parangas ____________________________________________________________________

WINNO V FLEMO
WINNO got FLEMO in our tipping competition last weekend in what can be considered a dismal effort from both of us on a heavy track that seen some weird results.
