I'VE BEAN THERE GETS UP IN THE FINAL FEW STRIDES

By Graham Potter | Sunday, March 21, 2021

There was a rousing finish to the QTIS Two-Year-Old Handicap, contested over 1400m at Eagle Farm, in which trainer Stuart Kendrick played the leading hand.

The Kendrick trained Kenny Boy ($7.50) skipped clear in the home straight and he stuck resolutely to his task, helped by apprentice Justin Huxtable’s 1.5kg claim.

For a good part of the straight Kenny Boy looked home but, inside the final 150m another Kendrick trained runner, the better fancied I’ve Bean There ($6) started to reel in his stable his stable companion.

The gap between them continued to shrink over the concluding stages and, in the end, Jimmy Orman’s challenge on I’ve Bean There proved to be perfectly judged as the son of Spill The Beans hit the front in the final strides.

Seefeld, out wider on the track, got up late to claim second spot and separate the two Kendrick runners.

“I was pretty confident last week in The Jewel,” said Stuart Kendrick. “I thought he would give it a big shake but, just the way the track played out, nothing went our way on the heavy track.

“I actually thought his run in The Jewel was unbelievable. He got on the wrong part of the track over the crown and still hit the line so hard.

“He showed today what he can do. He is a promising horse and I think the further he goes the better he’ll get, so hopefully he is a nice horse for the carnival for us.

“The other horse (Kenny Boy) … he is a tough little horse too. We put the blinkers on to make him a bit sharper and he was a bit too sharp.

“Both horses are going to stick around for the winter.

“We sort of looked after them with that in mind and it’s probably a nice time of the year to have these sort of two-year-olds coming through.”
