MELODY BELLE WILL HEAD TO THE MAGIC MILLIONS NATIONAL BROODMARE SALE IN MAY

It has been confirmed that Melody Belle will be sold at the Magic Millions National Broodmare Sale in May.
The six-year-old daughter of Commands has a phenomenal race record, to date having a fifty percent winning strike rate from her thirty-eights starts, with her nineteen wins including no less than fourteen Group 1 victories.
It was only two weeks ago when Melody Belle clinched her own piece of New Zealand racing history when she surpassed the thirteen Group 1 wins of the mighty New Zealand mare Sunline when winning the Bonecrusher Stakes to stand alone as New Zealand’s top Group 1 performer.
Melody Belle was a NZ$57,500 purchase by David Ellis at the 2016 New Zealand Bloodstock Premier Yearling Sale at Karaka from the Haunui Farm draft … and her owners, the Fortuna Melody Belle syndicate have been on a dream ride ever since then.
With just over $4 million earned in prize-money, multiple wins both first-up and second-up, on good, soft and heavy going over distances from 900m to 2040 metres … she was very much the complete racehorses.
While she is not done yet … her last fling could well come over the Brisbane Winter Carnival … there has already been plenty of conjecture about what sort of price Melody Belle will fetch in May.
Much of that commentary has used the last year’s Magic Millions sale of Sunlight as a point of reference. Sunlight won eleven of her twenty-four starts and pocketed $6.5 million during her illustrious career before setting a record of her own when being sold for $4.2 million.
As the Magic Millions release at the time stated, ‘Bidding started at $1 million and quickly went over $2 million before breaking through Listen Here’s all time Magic Millions record of $3.4 million. It was then she soared over the $3.85 million Southern Hemisphere record for a race filly or mare sold at public auction.’
The release added, ‘Sunlight’s purchase capped a remarkable ride for her connections who celebrated the record-breaking purchase with tears and cheers.’
Whether Melody can threaten Sunlight’s record sales figure remains to be seen but, as for the tears and cheers from the proud ownership group, chances are you can expect more of the same.
