MOOREY'S SELECTIONS: DOOMBEN, 27 MARCH, 2021
By Matt Moore | Friday, March 26, 2021
Doomben is where the action will be tomorrow in the River City. We’ve been lashed with rain at the start of the week, so the track is currently a Heavy 9. All indications are we will end up in the soft range. The form is done for a Heavy 8 into Soft 6/7. The Rail is out half a metre the entire circuit.
RACE 1: 2YO HANDICAP OVER 1110M
No 5 Startantes. Ran second in her debut race at Ipswich over 800m then stepped out to Eagle Farm to win her maiden. She powered through the line in that run which was at 1200m.
RACE 2: OPEN HANDICAP OVER 2000M
No 4 Humbolt Current. He went toe to toe in a stride for stride second place finish behind Romakash at Eagle Farm. They’ll meet again tomorrow. Humbolt Current carried 59kg with a 0.5kg more than Romakash. Tomorrow the tables will turn. Humbolt Current drops to 54kg and a kilo advantage on Romakash. The Chris Waller runner is unbeaten at Doomben from 2 outings. Jim Byrne in the saddle.
RACE 3: BM85 HANDICAP OVER THE MILE
No 7 Guise. A proven wet tracker who draws a perfect Gate (6) and looks to set the speed. The massive drop in 54kg after having his last 5 runs at 57kg or more appeals. The Jim Byrne/Chris Waller combination possibly looking for a race to race to double.
RACE 4: 3YO HANDICAP 1350M
No 3 Bundyandcoke. He’s flying and in some serious form coming in here after winning his last 2 runs on Heavy 8 tracks. He’s had 5 career starts with those 2 wins and 2 placings. All have been at Doomben over the 1200m trip. His only blemish was at Eagle Farm 3 starts back at the 1400m. Looks as the one to beat.
RACE 5: OPEN HANDICAP OVER 1350M
No 4 Cloak. Resuming here and is unbeaten at Doomben from 2 runs. He’s proven to run on any surface and the 1350m record is impressive with 4 wins from 9 attempts.
RACE 6: CLASS 3 PLATE OVER 1110M FOR THE COLTS AND GELDINGS
No 6 Leadership Spill. On top here purely for on his record at Doomben and the draw/map. He began this campaign with a win at the track over 1050m by just over 2 lengths then went across to Eagle Farm in a BM72 finishing fourth. I’m expecting him to bounce back here at a track he loves.
RACE 7: CLASS 3 PLATE OVER 1110M FOR THE FILLIES AND MARES
No 6 Snitzari. An impressive win at this track 10 days ago when the conditions and track where it was at its worst. Andrew Mallyon rode her a treat that day and draws similar here to that run. If we stay in the heavy range by Race 7, she’s 2 from 2.
RACE 8: 3YO HANDICAP OVER THE 1050M
No 7 Toorooloo. The gate and map stand out here for the David Vandyke runner. A last start winner at her home track on the Sunny Coast beating Back When. She’ll dictate terms from the pole and will be hard to catch on what is genuinely a leader’s track.
RACE 9: CLASS 6 PLATE OVER 1200M
No 6 Lashes. Comes up to Brisbane from two black type races in Melbourne. The first of those was the Group 3 Bellmaine taken out by Probabeel. Lashes was only 2 lengths off the winner. Forgive the last run in the Bob Hoysted. Her Sydney form this prep includes a second to Taillieur who’s favourite for The Galaxy tomorrow in Sydney.
QUADDIE NUMBERS:
Race 6: 3, 6, 12, 14 Race 7: 4, 6, 10, 16 Race 8: 1, 2, 7, 9 Race 9: 2, 3, 4, 6, 8, 9
