EAGLE FARM RACES – SATURDAY 3 APRIL 2021
LOCKDOWN IS OVER – With everyone now out of Brisbane’s three-day lockdown, maybe there is some spare cash to lash out on the ponies this weekend at Eagle Farm where the track is rated “GOOD” and the rail is out 5.5 metres out for the entire circuit. Some showers are forecast for the weekend. Maybe watch the first few races to see if horses in the first few around the corner hold any distinct advantages in the races.
Race 1
A small field to start the day – what will be the pattern of racing – that is the question that everyone will be wanting answered.
Stuart Kendrick has a couple of runners here – Kenny Boy (2) and Vetta Velocita (3).
I liked the effort of Kenny Boy (2) last start here over this distance where he set the tempo in front and was run down late in the shadows of the post. On that occasion Seefeld (4) finished narrowly in front of him. I just think with that run under her belt he will be better for the run and he will lead this field and be able to set a winning tempo with Ryan Maloney to ride this weekend.
His stable mate Vetta Velocita (6) will be ridden in behind the speed with Jimmy Orman aboard. He displayed a powerful finish when he won on debut over 1000 metres – if he gets the 1400 metres he will be in the finish.
Robert Heathcote trains Seefeld (4) who was strong at the line last start here at this track and distance. A repeat of that effort with Ben Thompson to ride again will see him difficult to hold out.
Steven O’Dea and Matthew Hoysted are well represented with Secret Tales (6) who thrived on a heavy track last start winning by 18 lengths. She must be well respected. Stephanie Thornton will partner her this weekend.
Selections:
2 – Kenny Boy 4 – Seefeld 6 – Secret Tales 3 – Vetta Velocita
Race 2
The first leg of the Early Quaddie is over 2200 metres … a bit of a lottery.
Kelly Schweida trains Joymaker (2) who won here in dominant fashion last start – cannot see why she cannot repeat the dose despite going up in weight sharply. Jim Byrne goes back aboard for this run.
Mishani Secret (5) ran second to Joymaker (2) last time out. She races on the speed and again will be ridden by Bobby El-Issa and she meets Joymaker (2) three kilograms better for a three-length defeat. She will be rated well again and will be there when the whips are cracking.
Youngblood (7) steps up to weekend grade with Alex Patis to ride for Gollan Racing. Not sure what to make of this runner.
Picaro (3) is the new runner on the scene who debuts locally from the Gary Portelli stables in Sydney with Michael Rodd to ride. He does not have a massive strike rate – but maybe he can turn up in Queensland and beat the opposition and take home a winner’s cheque for his owners.
Selections:
2 – Joymaker 5 – Mishani Secret 3 – Picaro 7 – Youngblood
Race 3
A race over 1200 metres.
Dixon Bay (2), trained by Gillian Heinrich on the Gold Coast, ran a solid race last start behind Kalik (race 9 – number 4). He is third up this preparation and I think looks well placed in the race. Jimmy Orman to ride.
Donald “Ducky” Baker has Hidden Eyes (4) in this race with Adin Thompson to ride. Last start here over 1300 metres he looked like the winner and was run down late by Dreamtimer (race 8 – number 9). I think that dropping back the 100 metres this weekend will suit him, and he will be strong at the finish.
Axe (3) has been scratched from a few races in recent weeks. Trained on the Gold Coast by Michael Costa, this runner could give them the “chop” and with Luke Dittman in the saddle and on a firm track is a definite contender here.
I think there will be plenty of Clearance Sale (8) specials around Brisbane after this three-day lock down. I am thinking that Bryan & Daniel Guy like a “special” and, with the backing that has come for this runner first up here with Michael Rodd aboard, there must be some confidence about them winning the race. He has had two recent trials on his home track and does have some solid form from last preparation – keep safe.
Selections:
2 – Dixon Bay 4 – Hidden Eyes 3 – Axe 8 – Clearance Sale
Race 4
East Asia (7), now trained by Robert Heathcote, has some solid previous form in Sydney on the board. Luke Dittman rarely rides for the stable and is aboard here. The runner was scratched last weekend and saved for this race – I think she will be fit and ready to go.
Ingear (3) failed last start on the heavy track – so forget about that run. She will lead them here. She could be a sitting duck late and I am looking for runners to swoop late and come home over the top of her. She has some good form at this track and Michael Rodd will be able to set the tempo to suit himself in the race – look for a big improvement.
The runner I am wary of is Molly’s Rocking from the Lindsay Hatch yards. She is second up here with Adin Thompson to ride. She has a great record second up and to be fair looked a little fat in the yard first up at the Gold Coast and still managed to work home late on the bog heavy track. There was some solid form last weekend that came out of that meeting and she looks one that could cause a major upset here at around the $21.
Selections:
7 – East Asia 3 – Ingear 1 – Molly’s Rocking 2 – Dis Dah Wun Rough chance – (5) Northern River
Race 5
A three-year-old sprint over 1200 metres – only a small field.
The Gollan Racing stables are having a great run now. I like Mass Destruction (4) to cause an upset here. I can forgive the run on the heavy track at the Gold Coast and now on a firm track, where he has performed well previously, I think he is the runner to beat. Ben Thompson rides him for the first time and I just think he is above average.
Tycoon Evie (5) is trained by Rex Lipp. She has won her past two starts racing near the lead here at this track with Mark Du Plessis aboard. Sure, she is dropping back in distance, but with Apache Chase (1) leading and setting the a genuine pace, I think that she will be able to work home late in this small field.
Gotta Kiss (3) gets her chance as well to get into the winner’s stall as well and could show up. She is coming off some Group races and must be respected.
Selections:
4 – Mass Destruction 5 – Tycoon Evie 3 – Gotta Kiss 1 – Apache Chase
Race 6
First leg of the Quaddie this weekend over 1400 metres – take the field in the first leg!
The Dark (6) is trained on the Gold Coast by Scott Morrisey and will be ridden by Mark Du Plessis. He performed well over the mile last start, but I think he just was found wanting late. Back to 1400 metres this weekend, I think he will be extremely competitive – some nice odds as well at $12.
Danish Fortune (10) is another Bryan & Daniel Guy runner who comes off a recent win at Ipswich. He looks the likely leader in the race – if they are handy or leading and winning then I think this runner will be right in the finish with Ben Thompson to ride.
Safado (3) is trained by Kris Lees Racing and comes off some races in Sydney where he has struck some soft tracks. I think that the firm track will suit him better this weekend and Andrew Mallyon does have a good strike rate with this stable.
Alpendurada (1) is a Heathcote Racing runner to be ridden by Michael Rodd again this weekend. Got back in the running last start and motored home late on a day where back markers were really at a disadvantage. It seems that this is his regular pattern of racing and if there is a track bias he may again be at a disadvantage.
Selections:
6 – The Dark 10 – Danish Fortune 3 – Safado 1 – Alpendurada
Race 7
Over the 1400 metres here for the first leg of the treble.
Again, Scott Morrisey has a solid chance here with Love Struck (5). Wow, if you can you say a runner was unlucky last at the Gold Coast last time out, it was this runner. Ridden to perfection by Justin Huxtable, he got nailed on the post by Akage (4) who he meets 1.5 kilograms better for that narrow defeat. He is third up here this weekend and great each way odd at $12.
She Za Boss (6), an Edmonds Racing runner was dominant here three weeks ago over the same distance. She looks like she will be competitive again this weekend with Robbie Fradd on board. On that last occasion she was sent out as a heavily backed short priced favourite ($1.75). She looks the likely winner here.
Wren’s Day (2) also posted a win here on the same day as She Za Boss (6) with a slightly worse time. He goes up a little in weight – Andrew Mallyon to ride.
Selections:
6 – She Za Boss 5 – Love Struck 2– Wren’s Day 1 – Top Prospect
Race 8
A Class 6 over the mile.
Walking Flying (4) is another Edmonds Racing runner, with Robbie Fradd to ride, who won last start on a heavy track at Doomben first up. The effort was strong, and I think that she will appreciate the firm Eagle Farm surface. She does like the mile and will race handy close to the lead.
Slow Hands (7) won here a fortnight ago when he sprinted well late and defeated the opposition going away from them late in a dominant effort. This runner is trained by Kelly Schweida and will be ridden by Stephanie Thornton this weekend. He could post back-to-back wins.
Dreamtimer (9) steps up from 1300 metres to the mile this weekend for trainer Kevin Kemp. Again, apprentice Madeleine Wishart partners this gelding and her claim will be handy in this race.
Word For Word (3) was beaten last start by Slow Hands (7) here when she was sent out as favourite and the money came for her. This weekend she meets Slow Hands (7) worse at the weights – so she may struggle here to turn the tables.
Selections:
4 – Walking Flying 7 – Slow Hands 9 – Dreamtimer 3 – Word For Word
Race 9
The last race of the day is over 1000 metres.
Kylease (1) likes to race on the speed and has drawn well in barrier 2. This runner is trained by Steven O’Dea & Matthew Hoysted and Stephanie Thornton gets back on the mare again. Kylease was not able to cope with the bog-heavy surface at the Gold Coast last time out. I think you should confidently overlook that run and if we have leaders winning on the track this weekend this runner does look like a nice way to finish the day.
Air Spirit (10) is a Gollan Racing runner who was all at sea on the heavy track on the Gold Coast a fortnight ago. She drops back from 1100 metres to 1000 metres and I think this will enhance her chances as well. The real concern here is that she gets back in her races and may be at a distinct disadvantage if the track favours leaders this weekend.
Pizonie (2) is the stable mate and has a tremendous first up record and does like Eagle Farm. He will appreciate the speed on in the race and will be flashing home late – that is his normal pattern of racing. Ryan Maloney has a 100% strike rate on the runner and maybe he can continue this successful association with the gelding.
Le Palmier (7) resumes for Gollan Racing as well. Can race well fresh and must be respected with Jim Byrne to ride.
Bold Style (3) resumes for Garnett Taylor from a short let up. Ryan Wiggins rides for the stable.
Selections:
1 – Kylease 2 – Pizonie 10 – Air Spirit 3 – Bold Style Rough chances – (7) Le Palmier _____________________________________________________________________

WINNO V FLEMO
FLEMO got WINNO last weekend in a superb effort tipping another five winners! Then his dirty Broncos beat my Bulldogs at the footy – it was a sad weekend for WINNO. Be sure to check the up to date and amended tips each Saturday morning on Facebook after any track changes and scratchings where I will post our selections and any late mail!
