TWO GROUP 3'S HEADLINE CARD AT CAULFIELD
By Matt Moore | Friday, April 2, 2021
A bumper day of racing at Caulfield for the traditional Easter Saturday meeting for the Melbourne Racing Club. The Group 3 Easter Cup as well as the Victoria Handicap at Group 3 Level headline the nine race card. The track rating will be a Good 4 with the rail out 6m the entire circuit
RACE 1: NOEL RUNDLE HANDICAP OVER 1400M
No 7 Pesto No 4 Dark Wanderer No 11 Vongole No 12 Akecheta
A difficult race to dissect and back the winner. I’m going with the Hawkes runner here in Pesto. Look for Jye McNeil to sit him midfield from Gate 13. A two- time winner at the 1400m.
RACE 2: BILL COLLINS HANDICAP OVER 1400M
No 4 Agreeable No 8 Canadian Gold No 1 Incredulous Dream No 2 Melba Storm
Agreeable is one of the best bets on the card for me. This Freedman mare finished off her last campaign racing in the Group 1 1000 Guineas at this track over the mile then went across to Flemington running in the Group 2 Wakeful Stakes. She began this prep with a 3rd place in a BM64 at Sandown. She’s drawn Gate 6 here and will sit closer to the speed. The in-form Jamie Kah rides.
RACE 3: LISTED REDOUTE’S CHOICE AT 1100M
No 1 Marine One No 8 Najamty No 2 Hunnam No 6 Sliders
I’m prepared to take on the Snowden runner here in Najamty who is the red-hot favourite. Marine One wasn’t far away in his two runs in the Blue Diamond Preview and Prelude. Blinkers go on here for the Lloyd Kennewell runner.
RACE 4: BERT BRYANT HANDICAP OVER THE MILE
No 6 Black Penn No 9 Flying Mascot No 7 Ironedge No 2 Thyce Goddess
Black Penn was impressive in his last start running third to Dom To Shoot in the Mornington Guineas. His run prior to that was his first this prep. On that occasion he won his maiden at Pakenham over the 1400m.
RACE 5: JACK ELLIOTT HANDICAP OVER 1100M
No 4 Minhaaj No 12 Vowmaster No 8 Capriccio No 1 Immortal Love
With the impressive form lines in her last two preps, it’s hard to go past Minhaaj for the Lindsay Park team. When we look at her three runs last campaign where she ran in the Red Roses (won by Written Beauty) and two 3rd placings behind September Run, it is a pass mark. She finished off the campaign prior in the Golden Slipper last year won by Farnan.
RACE 6 ROBERT TARANTO HANDICAP OVER 1000M
No 6 Alfa Oro No 5 Octane No 1 Diamond Effort No 4 Sword Of Mercy
Matt Laurie has a good one here in Alfa Oro. His record speaks volumes with six career wins and two second placings from nine starts. He finished off last prep running 4th in the Caulfield Sprint, but was dominant in runs prior to that. He’s first up here in this race. He’s won two from three when resuming. Gate 6 looks the goods and will sit just off the speed. It looks a great way to kick off the quaddie.
RACE 7 GROUP 3 EASTER CUP OVER 2000M
No 2 Persan No 5 Le Don De Vie No 11 Mahamedeis No 7 Cuba
The Maher/Eustace runner, Persan, resumed at the Valley last start over the 2040m Cox Plate trip to take out the Open Handicap on All Star Mile day. He gave them a start and had to come the widest around the home turn to win.
RACE 8 GROUP 3 ELVIS THURGOOD VICTORIA HANDICAP OVER 1400M
No 6 Pretty Brazen No 11 Riddle Me That No 8 Bam’s On Fire No 7 Morvada
The Team McEvoy runner, Pretty Brazen, finished third in the March Stakes when resuming finishing half a length behind the winner. She’ll be fitter for that run here. She’s goes into this race with fair second up form. She beat Arcadia Queen in the Group 2, Let’s Elope last prep.
RACE 9 GEOFF MURPHY HANDICAP OVER THE MILE
No 9 Shandy No 10 Re Edit No 3 Ritratto No 2 Skyman
Shandy resumed at Sandown Lakeside winning a BM84 over the 1400. She loves the mile with two wins from four and with two wins from three when 2nd up. She looks like she can win the last settling midfield from Gate 2.
